  1. So, I'm trying to go through the code and find the call to this message, comment it out, and getting rid of it so I can see my nice splash screen I just downloaded from some very talented person on this site. Anyone have any ideas as to what part of the code it's in? Even better, has anyone ever done this? With thanks in advance:

    New firmware update fixes this.

  2. AV sources start almost immediately

true, but you can't control them and have to wait a bit longer before the volume knob and other controls are becoming active.

so turn your volume down before you stall your car if you don't want to wake up your neighbours the next day in the early morning. :)

Volume is changeable almost immediately upon startup with AV sources.

Here's something interesting - I booted the unit in testmode, and as soon as WinCE was up, the HDRadio was playing with volume control. I assume that's a hardware passthrough from the HDRadio module.

But yeah - I posed a boot time question in the thread below: Is it different based on the model? I recorded my times as (F90BT):

Ignition on to first light/Splash Screen: 07 secs

Splash Screen to the end of "loading": 76 secs

Ability to use unit (background tasks I assume): 88 secs

    Bluetooth Connection: 106 secs

Fully functional, no lag : 115 secs

  3. Finally got my contacts transferred over, and they work exactly as they should. Recognized names just fine, and asks which number to call when there is more than 1 for a certain contact.

Did you end up using the DB editor? I edited my contact list using the Windows based editor (from the thread below) and suddenly (viola!) every contact is recognized! I don't know if it's the rewriting process or the fact that I reduced the list of contacts to ones I actually call, or the fact that I reordered them to have more frequently called people at the top of the contact list.

Am I correct that everyone who has no voice command of contacts also has no caller-id on the unit for the same contacts when they call you?

  4. so i finally decided to activate my MSN direct... and i cannot seem to get back to the screen where the product key is...

the first time i booted my unit i had access to it, but not anymore... it just says "connecting to MSN direct"

... anyone know where i can find this?

It will show up on that "connecting" screen eventually... takes a good 5 to 10 minuts sometimes. Biggest wait is for MSN to send activation (provided they send from the correct area - ie the one you're actually in). I left my car sit for close to thirty minutes till it finally activated.

  5. I'm wondering... Anyone think theres a difference in boot times based on model? I would imagine the units without MSN direct or DVD or video codecs might boot a lot faster that the f90 or 900? Would anyone care to measure?

EDIT: Here's what I got using my handy iPhone stopwatch... (times are cumulative)

Ignition on to first light/Splash Screen: 07 secs

Splash Screen to the end of "loading": 76 secs

Ability to use unit (background tasks I assume): 88 secs

    Bluetooth Connection: 106 secs

Fully functional, no lag : 115 secs

So we're talking just shy of 2 full minutes. Which doesn't sound like a lot - but considering my daily commute to my office takes 10 to 15 minutes and 6.25 miles - to me, that's rediculous.

  6. ok bluetooth on my avic f90bt was working perfectly fine for like 2 weeks until one day it just decided to cut off. Connection between my iphone and the unit is perfectly fine. I dial a number, it rings and when the person picks up I hear them for like 2 seconds and then it cuts off and can't hear shit. Blue light is still lit up on the unit showing that it's still connected but you can't hear shit. Anyone experiencing the same issues know of a solution? Please help.

Btw I have version 2.0 firmware installed on my iPhone.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, I'm having some of the same issues. I think it's the 2.0 firmware. I've had connectivity issues with a couple of other BT handsfree stuff since i switched to the 2.0 (2.0.1 to be exact).

I think the functionality of the F90bt is partially to blame too. And if anyone has a diffrent experience with other devices, please, by all means chime in - but i've found:

    1. Incoming calls, once answered on F90bt continue to ring and never allow you to pickup (seems to happen on the first incoming call after connection) - when attempting to answer using phone, disconnects call.

    2. Dial by voice/dial by contact/dial by number goes back to source once dialed, then reconnects 2 to 10 seconds later leaving the party called saying "Hello? Hello?"

    3. Using any phone function returns you to the Map screen, everytime, regardless of what your previous screen was.

    4. Call control (ie hang up/volume buttons) will occasionally never appear. (Completely random)

    5. Voice command interface will occasionally never release control to dialer.

    6. Recent dial list is never updated.

    Just to name a few.

  7. I'm not sure you'd want to replace the file system of an F900 with that of an F700. You might lose some functionality.

I do have a modified-and-tested data.zip file on my server that you can download, then you just need to use the testmode hack to copy it onto your own nav unit. You can grab the data.zip here:

    http://www.felesmagus.com/stuff/data.zip

Stephanie, did that have the sounds removed? I didn't think you'd updated in that release.

  8. I replaced all my beep waves with silence. It's golden! :D

Re. the contacts, the four fields per record are:

ID - numerical, determines the order they appear in the contacts menu, and each ID must be unique.

chShowName - this is the text name which is displayed on the contacts screen

chPhoneCode - this is the phone number that will be dialed when you select a contact.

dwType - this is numeric, either a 1 or 2 or 3 and it determines if the number is 'home' or 'work' or something else. I do not know which is which. In my original phone book, everything showed up as 1 so that's how I kept it. I just made separate entries, so I'd do something like this:

    1, Work #1, 5551234567, 1

    2, Work #2, 5557654321, 1

    Cheers!

Type is what you want, but remember that the contact name is what VR is supposed to use (not that I've ever gotten mine to work).

    0 - Other (Unknown maybe?)

    1 - Home

    2 - Work

    3 - Mobile

    4 - ???

    5 - Main

  9. 2G does it all too. Video playback as well. Only small inconvenience is the apparent inability to delete a contact from the F series. If you are like myself, I have multiple numbers for contacts, and contacts I don't ever call. Since the unit downloads each separate number for every contact, it doesn't tell you (in the contact screen) which number is which (i.e. Home, Mobile, Work) so dialing from the the contact screen is tricky.

  10. so after 3 days of banging my head against the steering wheel, MSN Direct tells me "although we are showing full coverage in your area we cannot guarantee you will be able to pick it up."

    +1

I should have strong data/signal also but my antenna icon never shows any bars.

Yeah - we spent half a day trying to figure out why there were no bars - HD Radio is the culprit. I'm going to try splitting the FM antenna. Speaking of which - there's another Pioneer :?: When it see's HD Radio on the Bus, shouldn't it turn off the FM and AM inputs? Since HD will tune analog anyway?
