  1. Had a very positive experience with Garret. I didn't want to ship my HDD and wait for a new one, so I sent him a deposit. I got the HDD from him very quickly...he even included the tool to remove the HDD. Took me about 5 min to install once I finally got around to it. Sent him my old HDD back and he issued me a refund for my deposit very quickly! Thanks again Garret!

  2. I called Pioneer and they said they don't have pin diagrams. They did give me the following information regarding each wire:

    *Doesn't list speaker wires

    red - ignition

    yellow - constant

    light orange/white - ILL

    black - ground

blue/white - accessory or system control (amps)

    pink - speed signal

yellow/black - accessory mute (cell mute)

    blue - antenna

    light green - handbrake

    purple/white - reverse gear

Seems to me he just read out of the manual. Whatever. Here's what I have in my power harness:

    4 pairs of speaker wire

    blue

    pink

    *empty*

    black

    violet/white

    red

    light orange/white

    yellow

I would imagine that its the empty pin, but the Z1 knows when my parking brake is up or not...so I'm not really sure what to do other then pull my car apart and follow the wire from the brake.

  3. I've been trying to do the 2 wire bypass for the last couple of days now using Steve's method (http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html#newbypass).

The issue I'm running into is that there is no light green wire on my power connector.

The colors on the connector are as follows: the 4 pairs of speaker wires with their corresponding colors with a black stripe (white, gray, green, violet), as well as blue, pink, no pin (empty), black, and violet/white, red, light orange/white, and yellow. I know from the manual that the pink is the speed signal wire and the violet/white is the reverse gear signal input.

I know the wire is hooked up somehow because the Z1 knows when my parking brake is engaged or not.

My question is: which one is the light green "supposed" to be? Because apparently there's something wrong with mine, and there is no light green. If someone could post a picture of their power connector off their Z1 so I could compare to mine, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks!

  4. That's actually pretty cool. I have the trunk release on my key and a button inside the cab so that keyhole's pretty useless to me...plus it's very discreet

Same here...I have the release inside the cabin as most cars do. I don't think I've ever made use of the keyhole in the trunk.

I can't be the first one to think of this so can some post their installed photo/review of it??

  5. Called in and tried to use the OEM001NNA code on the first post for 3 months free/waived activation...the rep said it expired in 2007.

Called in again and used XMSCION03 but she said that expired as well.

Called in yet again and just told them that the XMSCION03 code worked online but when I called earlier they wouldn't accept it. The guy put me on hold for about a minute and came back and said that some people don't know what they're doing. :P So now I've got 3 months free of XM and no activation fee.

I asked if he could add NavTraffic as well but he said the code doesn't work for that...put me on hold but said he couldn't do it for free.

  8. ducatiboy: You're right, I don't have a long antenna...its about 2 feet long from the factory, and I replaced that one with a short antenna that's about 6 inches long. They just screw on and off.

Why am I making sure I don't have a powered antenna? Sorry, I didn't catch that from your post.

I'm off to pull it out now and make sure again that everythings hooked up...will take pictures and post them up. Be back in a few minutes.

BTW, I found a picture of the OEM antenna, and the shorty I have installed.

  9. EDIT: FM now works...AM is still all static.

When I first had it installed in my Mitsubishi Evo IX, it all worked.

A couple of months later I noticed that my tuner does not work at all...AM doesn't emit any sounds, FM has static on all stations.

I pulled the headunit out and checked the wiring, but it looked to be okay. For me, that means I checked to make sure everything was plugged in that looked like it needed to be plugged in.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  10. My friend installed a Z1 in my 2006 Evo MR and there were some problems with the harness...and I realized he never properly hooked up the ILL wire, because my unit does not dim at night/nor am I able to flicker the headlights and do the bypass for the unit (June '06 model). Does anyone have any pictures or anything that would assist me in hooking it up? I don't really want to go back to him because he helped me out...so can anyone help with any diagrams, what color the wire is or anything? Thanks!
