  1. If face detach is your primary need then I would look for the JVC KW-NX7000. It is proven, solid with very reviews.

I have one... still have it and runs great.

    Good luck

  2. Navigation related problems:

1- In navigation mode, the speed limit doesn’t show-up on the screen and speed alert warning doesn’t work. I have properly configured them in the setting pages to have them work.

Both work on my unit. I adjusted the speed warning to the maximum 20 MPH.

Good for You, I'm thinking that Canadian users don't have that feature yet or the older map version 0.9.7.0 has this.

2- Entering an address starting by street name then by city, doesn’t ask for the door number. If I start with city, street, then I have the door number available. My example was 175 Route 393 South, La Sarre, Quebec.

Not following you 100% here. It will ask for the address number after the street name but I don't think it will ask for an apartment number if that is the detail you are asking.

I'm not clear either! What I mean is if you start the search by steet name an then city, I can't go a step further to start the route. I'm stuck at entering the city. For the same destination, If I start with the city and then the street name, all works OK.

    Bluetooth related problems:

1- The phone status box doesn’t show my battery level and signal strength. My phone has the capability of transferring that information since I had these info with a Pioneer F900BT. (phone is Samsung BlackJack II)

Blackberry 8830 shows both signal strength and battery level

Probably their firmware need to be upgraded to support my phone then.

2- In navigation mode, when I’m receiving a call, the call message box appears on the display for few seconds for me to pick-up the call and this is fine. The screen sensor makes this box disappear but when I approach my hand to the screen, the call massage box doesn’t reappear. The only way I can hang-up the phone is by using my phone or the JVC remote control.

Npt sure on that one, will have to try it out.

    This is appreciated

    Information from the unit

    Model : KW-NX7000(J)

    Software : 1.2.6.0

    Map: 0.9.8.0

    Voice : 0.9.8.0

    Model : KW-NX7000(J)

    Software : 1.2.6.0

    Map: 0.9.7.0

    Voice : 0.9.7.0

Looks like I need an update.

I tried to contact JVC by phone and by e-mail and no answers yet. Over two week now. Their supports really suffers. If you have any lead to give me, I'll take it.

    Thanks,

  3. Hi 90beater,

  4.

Also JVC has an update out now for this radio. It is supposed to fix some of the more common problems. I downloaded and installed it this morning using a blank 2 gig sd card (as per the instructions). It works and is displaying the new software version as expected.

Here is the update link: http://www.jvc.co.jp/english/car/sup...000/index.html

    Hope it helps!

I doubt its worth uploading a video after pipspeaks review.. I concur that her voice is fine going thru the stock phrases but when it hits text to speech all bets are off. I mean you will understand what she is saying most of the time but yea.. think "microsoft mary"

  5. Guys,

This as been mentioned in another thread too and I think it should be discussed seriously.

We need to know from Pioneer if they have any intention to upgrade existing units. I would make any assumptions that if Pioneer is a partner, all is good.

I don't think that Pioneer will claim high that they will not offer free map software upgrade for existing users.

We need to find the right guy to speak to at Pioneer to find out.

This post as to be sticked!

Can you please put the link were is your BAD NEWS 1?

    Thanks,

    Charles

  6. Hi all,

Is this function really effective? Can it be by-passed easily by thief?

Does Pioneer keeps track of registered unit and will not unlock unit without a proof of purchase?

Is a firmware update will erase the password?

I plan to purchase an F700BT and I'm little scared.

I heard that double DIN unit were not very popular because they were too long to stole, is that thru?

    Thank you,

    Charles

1.The function is effective if you have a knowledgeable thief that's aware of the anti-theft device and decides not steal your unit because of the problems he will face.If not then the thief will still steal it but can't use it.Then he will sale it to someone on E-bay and they will be stuck.

2.The unit can be by-passed but not easily and very few know how.

3.True,If you register your unit they will not unlock it without proof.

4.No, firmware update will not erase the password.

5.Anything the thief can see and want,can/will be stolen.Get a good Alarm!!

Well I had a discussion with Pioneer rep this week. I don't know If he knows his stuff but the nature of his answers was telling me that he was completly ingnorant...

He told me that a simple RESET erases the password protection???????

Did you tested the password protection your self to come with the above statement? I don't see anything in the manual.

    Thanks,

    Charles

  7. Wow, so I take it you are a moderator of this forum now? You say what comes and goes? I personally thought that was funny, and well, I was tempted to say something simiiliar.

  8. Windows mobile 6 standard

    OK you have 6.0.

I'm not sure if it's because of that you can't link your phone with the HU.

Have you followed carefully the steps in HU?

Alternatively you can still move to 6.1, I can confirm it works with F series.

Appreciate ur help,im gonna try doin that. I have tried everything, was sittin in the car for half hour the first time!! Is ur HU the new firmware or the old one?? Cuz mine is the old one,i gotta update that too!! Anyways I gotta go to work now, thanks again,if u dont mind reply back, also if u know how i can update my jack to 6.1!!! I will check this when i get back....Thanks alot

    AL

To update your phone, just go onto Samsung US web site or phone provider there's an update for it and follow instructions, you'll find your way I'm sure. BTW sync your phone before if you don't want to loose your data.

You can update your HU if you like but in my case it was working with prior 2.0 version too.

Good luck and let us know.

  12. Hi,

First, you should change your header to get more attention, this is really important news.

I doubt that nav implemented in our device will not get updated but we should keep our eyes open and ask Pioneer by writing, what will happen.

I haven’t bought my unit yet but you bet I’ll get an answer.

    Thanks,

  14. Dears,

Needless to repeat the Avic F-series series have quite a few bugs and Pioneer is not really doing too much effort to solve them or at least that the pace at which patches and fixes are brought out is very slow.

After more than 80 mails and 20 phone calls to my dealership and Pioneer's customer service desk, of which the first were very polite and the last a bit less polite unfortunately, FINALLY, I'm having a Pioneer representative over on Dec 22nd of this year at the dealership where I had my Avic F900BT installed early September, to have a look at the bugs and to take note of them.

Just a note aside; What is striking, is that Pioneer acts as if they are not aware of any bugs and the Avic F-series are the best - and perfectly working according to specification - navigation systems and that I'm the first unhappy user that is calling and that all the other users are exquisitely happy. I'm sure the Avic F-series is a device with huge potential, but the fact that Pioneer states it is working perfectly worries me a bit... How much effort do they plan to put in future updates? The device is according to them working just fine anyway.

Anyway, I already have a list of the bugs that bother me, but I think for you fellow Avic-F-series-users out there this would also be a good opportunity to voice the bugs you are experiencing and that I might have missed. If we provide a list, why not make it more or less exhaustive one…?

In that respect, if you can post the bugs you are experiencing in this thread by Thursday evening. I’ll pass them on to the Pioneer representative, hoping that the fact that the list is not generated by just one person but rather a significant part of the Pioneer F-series user-community, they will feel a bit more inclined to solve them. ;-)

So, if you have any bugs you'd like me to report to Pioneer, feel free to post them here, along with an explanation, step by step, on how to reproduce the problems or bugs by Thursday (Dec 18th) evening.

    P.S.

    1) What do you think of asking pioneer to make to software open-source or at least disclose the hardware specs of the device, so that the user community can work on their version of the software to operate the device (including radio, cd, ...).

    2) If anyone of you has a good idea on how to list out the problems in some on-line database or so. Feel free, must admit I'm not very web-programming literate.

Keep me post and I’ll keep you posted also of course!

    To be continued...

Please let us know how it goes!

    Charles

  15. first time I'm hearing of a "memory" problem when loading contacts. There are many people here who have..at least 100 or 150 contacts loaded successfully. How many were you trying to load?

Well over 1000 contacts I would say. The primary use for this unit would be for business, all my contacts are sorted by company in my phone.

I think the best is to keep my contact on my phone but still use bluetooth. The only draw back I see is my phone #'s would not be associated in the unit.

I can live with that little thing but phone freezing while connected, this I can't.

    Charles

  16. Well my mind was set on the Pioneer F900BT and guess what... not so impressed.

The first store, they didn't have a 900 but a 700. Not much of a problem since I wanted to see the Bluetooth and Nav.

At first, the screen was totally blank but I could hear sound. Pressed a couple of button, nothing worked. The rep. rebooted the unit and was stuck at the welcome screen. After 5 minutes of juggling I was able to work with it.

The interface was pain slow and looked at the soft version and it was still at ver. 1.0000. I decided to pair it up my Samsung Jack, pairing was working but couldn't transfer my contact list.

I asked the rep to update the unit and would come back for another test.

I went to another store were they had an F900BT fully updated.

Start to play with it and boom, rebooted on me when I hit the MAP button

After, I paired my phone with the unit, all went well. I tried to transfer my contact to the unit.... not enough memory

I still had a couple of contacts loaded. I pressed on the first one to dial... the unit and my phone, both were froze  The rep had to reset the unit and I had to remove the battery from my phone to bring it back to life.

    Conclusion:

    - First, I can understand that a lot of people are playing with the units in store and may drive them crazy, thou I think it should be more robust in a day to day usage.

    - Second, The lack of memory to store contacts is a big draw back IMO. Unless I can tell the unit to use the SD card but I haven't seen such setting.

    - Third, The Bluetooth compatibly should be improved, the Pioneer doesn't like my Samsong Jack.

My impression is we need to wear white gloves to operates these.

All in all, disappointed so far.

    Charles

  17.

    Thanks!

Here in US/Canada we don't have the gyro/ speed sensor. Must be required for Teleatlas map. Here JVC uses Navteq.

But, I'm in the same boat as you, i'm in between the JVC and the F900BT.

    Charles

Don't think I'd be choosing the JVC without the speedpulse & gyro.

The pioneer is quite good with the latest update and the display is noticably better!

Don't think that the map manufacturer is the decider wether or not there is a gyro.

But since there are a lot tunnels and bad gps reception areas here which is annoying if you have to backtrack every time you miss the exit because you couldn't see it yet because of the length of the tunnel.

I agree, the US version of JVC is a without gyro and VSS is less tempting option.

As far the map provider to decide or not of the gyro? I'm not sure because the hardware has to be supported by the map software. I'm getting that conclusion because the Pioneer uses the TeleAtlas map software like the JVC euro version and both support gyro and vss while I haven't seen yet any Navteq based software to use the above.

Overall, I prefer the Pioneer but the deal breaker is the remaining bugs.

The up side is the outstanding community!

    Charles

  18. First of all hi! I already found a lot on this forum and thanks to all of you for that!

I'm in the market for a nav unit and I'm undecided about the Pioneer F900BT and the JVC NX7000(both european versions).

I already know the differences between the two and have played with the F900BT already. Basicly they are the same, if you pick up the bluetooth adapter for the JVC.

I do have questions however about the dead reckoning and phone use during navigation.

    1) The JVC manual states it can make/receive calls during navigation. I read here that the F900 cannot do that?!

    2) The JVC also has a setting page for the status and reset of the gyro and speedpulse settings(see picture). I could not find any of that whilst reading the Pioneer manual and whilst playing with the unit.

Does it even exist in the F900?!

    Thanks!

Here in US/Canada we don't have the gyro/ speed sensor. Must be required for Teleatlas map. Here JVC uses Navteq.

But, I'm in the same boat as you, i'm in between the JVC and the F900BT.
