  1. I haven't seen this problem to the extreme that you describe, but every now and again I'll see something similar. Say I'm using Waze while listening to music from the SD Card... if Waze needs to alert that there is a cop ahead, the music will stop, the radio looks like I'm receiving a phone call, I hear the alert from Waze, then the "phone call" ends and my music starts playing again. It doesn't happen all the time and I can find no rhyme nor reason on what is causing it.

  2. That is correct! You can most certainly play audio from your SD card or HD Radio while in app mode. Like he said, adjust your volume a click and look at the bottom of the screen for a tab to change the audio source.

  3. This is pretty funny. This is actually where I bought my 4000 from. I didn't know they made YouTube videos.

This is 100% accurate. This is not the type of "mirroring" that requires your phone to be jailbroken. Notice how he says in hdmi mode, it's not touch friendly. You can't control the phone through hdmi mode, but you can see what's going on on your phone exactly as they have it represented in the video.

  4. I don't have the parking assistant guide enabled. This is odd, what the heck is causing mine to take forever to light up and boot? I may have to make a YouTube video and post it so you guys don't think I'm BS'ing.

:-) no one thinks you're BSing. I think that if something is wrong with your radio, you should return it for a new one.

  5. I got a screen protector for my 8000NEX from screenpatronus, com however I don't think that they cut it correctly because the sides, both left and as well as the top non-capacitive area right are not covered by the screen protector but the capacitive area is covered

That would drive me absolutely nuts!! Over time, the edge around the screen protector will begin to collect dust and dirt and the line around the protector will be easier and easier to see. Have you contacted them to see if it's "supposed" to be this way?

  6. Ok, after a closer look it isn't the reverse camera that is slow, its the deck itself that is slow to power up. When I start my car, it takes about 10 seconds for the front panel buttons on the deck to illuminate, after which I see the Pioneer logo and my reverse cam shows up a few seconds later. I have a Sirius XM tuner and a PAC steering wheel remote adaptor attached to the head unit. I wonder if these add ons could be slowing down the boot?

I have the Maestro SW module for my steering wheel controls and I have the xm tuner as well. Should not cause your radio to take 10 seconds to begin the booting process.

As to the "sluggish" reverse video comment... do you have the grid lines turned on while in reverse? If so, turn them off and see if the video is still sluggish. If I turn off the reverse grid, my video is normal. But like you said, it's not enough to worry about and I prefer the grid lines so I just deal with it.

  7. FINALLY!!! I Scanned it in just for my AVIC411 peeps.

Really cool of you to do that. Just a heads up, Crutchfield has every manual for every radio on their website. If you look at the "What's In The Box" section for each radio, you will see a link to download the manuals.

  8. Then something is not connected properly. Your camera should turn on when the car is in reverse and turn off when you shift out of reverse. This should work whether the camera setting is on OR off. If it only work when that setting is on, then something is not connected properly.

  9. Let just say that when I fought it, the vendor told me it was developed for iPhone initially and that was the best choice for me. That is why I feel cheated!

I paid $300 for the unit, plus installation cost. But it does not deliver half of the functionality I was expecting to have with a painless usage. Half of the time, it does not sync with the iPhone, and I have to go to the iPhone and kill the AppRadio app to have it start normally. Just the fact that I must "allow" the app (so getting to the iPhone while launching the unit) is a bugging mess... And I do not even say that with iOS 7 and Lightning connector, the iPod functionality is not even working normally. That sucks, really...

I understand your frustration as all of these things you mentioned are frustrating. The problem, however, is that they have nothing to do with the fact that CarPlay is not supported on your radio. All of these problems you mention exist whether or not CarPlay was coming to the NEX series. If these problems frustrated you so much, you should have returned the unit while you still could and got something different. I guess I just don't see how you can feel "cheated" for these reasons as they have nothing to do with CarPlay. Any time you buy technology nowadays you should understand that in a couple months to a year, something "bigger and better" will be released and you will no longer have the "latest and greatest." This is how it is with all tech toys. If you want the latest features, sell your radio for what you can and pay the difference for the new radio.

  10. Kind of curious how AppRadio mode would work without an hdmi adapter on the iPhone. The hdmi provides the video through to the head unit and I don't know which apps you could take advantage of without video. I'm thinking (and this is just a theory as I haven't researched it) that you WOULD need a special pioneer cable. A buddy of mine has a 4S and he bought the cable that has USB and the yellow pioneer plug on one end and 30pin on the other. They also sell a cable like this with lightning instead of 30pin I believe and I would think you would have to use that to get the AppRadio mode working. I have the AppRadio app and when I set the unit to USB and plug in lightning to USB1 on the radio, I do not have access to AppRadio mode.

  11. Just a heads up on the question I asked earlier in reference to supported audio formats... this unit will NOT decode DTS encoded audio and down mix it to stereo or any other format. I have a 5GB 1080p .mkv file for Cars 2 that is encoded in DTS audio. The video plays fine and looks great (even on the 4000NEX) but the radio says "audio format not supported" and there is no sound. So be careful which files you are trying to use.

  12. I have an iPhone 5s hooked to USB 1, and an iPod to USB 2 but when my son gets in with me he plugs in his iPhone to usb 2 and I can choose music from my phone or his phone

Very cool. I doubt this work when using the iPhone for app mode with the digital av adapter though.
