  1. Can anyone confirm if the many nagging bugs in 3.x have been fixed? Like: random boot to black/nav screen, HD tuner preset info, skipping multiple channels, going to map at end of call, 3-d limited zoom and street names, ...

I'm not paying that much for just maps - I wish they'd just release a firmware update to fix the existing bugs!

  2. I've had problems with my Droid/F90, too.

One issue I found was using 86,,, as a contact for voice dial (the "," are pauses). I'd get an error screen saying "no number". Deleted the contact and it sync'd. The Droid has other means of dialing voice mail. No problems with this on my old Razr.

Other times, I'd just get a failure message. Restarting my F90 and/or deleting the Droid and re-pairing usually works.

Now, on my 2nd droid (the first returned for the #@&^ echo problem) I get all sorts of goofy contacts in my F90. Lots of , contacts with the box being first, last name holders. Weird.

[bTW, the new droid has the same echo problem. Sure hope the Dec 11 update fixes it or it is going back to Verizon permanently.]

  3. I personally own AVIC-F900BT and I think the main problems with the P10 is..

    1) presets do not work or show any text

    2) no text showing the name of the song, artist or station

I've noted before that I've had my P10 connected to two other HUs (FH-P8000BT, DEH-P7000BT) besides the F90 and it worked perfectly - including preset info and song info. The issues aren't in the tuner - it is in the F-series.

  4. If I had to place money on the future of car audio, I would say the next widely adopted technology will be integrated wireless internet.[snip]

But I digress. That's a topic for another thread entirely!

Allow me to continue the digression...

This capability is not possible with existing "3G" cellular technology and will require "4G" infrastructure including WiMAX and/or LTE. The former requires entirely new infrastructure and is based on IEEE 802.16 standards and is currently ahead of LTE in standards, development, and deployment. Simplisticaly, LTE is a "retrofit" of existing infrastructure (i.e. more cost effective) but still requires a substantial investment for CDMA/GSM carriers.

Consequently, wide-spread deployment won't likely be for years...

  5.

Even with the edit above, the (new) radio button is disabled if vehicle type is "Car" (F90BT). This is disabled in common/ui/setting.ui and then defaulted to off in other cases. Comment out the following (note the comma in the first edit):

    :

    [...]

    ;-----my init

    ui_SettingRoute.y 0

    runif nVehicle 0 'nVehicleTmp.set "Car", btn_vehicle_value.set "Car"'

    else_runif nVehicle 5 'nVehicleTmp.set "Pedestrian", btn_vehicle_value.set "Pedestrian"

    ;, btnSR_AlignToRoad.DISABLE'

    runif nVehicle 5 'rdkeepposon.enable, rdkeepposoff.enable'

    else_runif nVehicle 6 'rdkeepposon.enable, rdkeepposoff.enable'

    ;else_run 'rdkeepposon.disable, rdkeepposoff.disable'

With these two edits, there is no need for the hard coded gps_pos_to_road=0 in sys.txt!

  6. Why would the new HD tuner version "fix" anything? The "old" one works perfectly with two other Pioneer HUs I have - just not with the F-series. This would imply the issues are with the F-series, not the tuner.

FYI - we know about the presets jumping multiple channels, right? My F90 got stuck in a loop - beeping and changing presets until I rebooted it. Grrrr...

  7. Got mine - the o-ring one - Looks GREAT! Perfect choice for the o-ring location, too (offset toward the front).

Before I mount it, though, I'm going to mount it on my (wood) lathe and do a high polish job. Then again, maybe not - gotta stare it for a while...

I didn't realize this was an "overlay" and fit *around* the existing knob. Now I understand the #40/41 drill bit (non-) issue.

For those of you concerned about the price increase, it is still worth it.

    Thanks, Thomas! :D

  8. A few bugs missing so far:

    * Fix the HD radio preset button info display

    * Start a song where it left off on SD and USB drives. It does it for ipod and data disc but not SD and USB drive?

    Enhancements or bugs?

    * In SD and USB random play, make left/right button go to next *random* song, not previous/next. Again, ipod and data disc do this.

    * Make the up/down buttons go to previous/next folder instead of doing nothing (the FH-P8000BT does this)

Please, let's get the bugs (track up in 2D included) fixed before enhancements!

  9. The EQ in the F series truly sucks, IMHO. 3 bands just isn't enough to do any sort of fine tuning. Since the three bands are isolated, you can't make any fine adjustments. For example, you can't deal with a peak at 500Hz and a dip at 1k - you can only address one of those two.

Just as a (very) general rule, most cars/trucks have a major resonance point around 120Hz. Pioneer gives us centers of 100 and 160? The simple 7-band fixed EQ in my FH-P8000BT was much better than the F series.

A 5 to 7 band fully adjustable center frequency EQ would be much better.

I posted a question about possible mods but got zero responses.

  10. If you want MSN Direct or standard AM/FM (or preset data), you'll need a "Y" cable.

A couldn't find one anywhere when I had my dash torn apart. Ended up making one. Pioneer should include one with the HD radio module!

Also note the 2.0 update didn't fix the HD radio preset button display. I know it isn't the HD radio module because I had it installed with a FH-P8000BT and it displayed the HD channel info fine.

  11. Works fine with a standard 3.5mm (1/8") 3-conductor audio cable attached to an MP3 player. Just set in in settings for "video" (I can't recall if it is Video 1 or 2). In the A/V screen, the "switch" is on the bottom of the screen (greyed out unless you enable in in A/V settings).

  12. Has anyone found a way to change the EQ center frequencies on F-series?

The bass, in particular, jumps from 100Hz to 160. A *lot* of vehicles have a nasty resonance around 120-130 so this thing is useless for fine tuning (at least in my case) - and only 3 paremetric bands aren't much help, either. [bTW, I use TrueRTA with a calibrated mic.]

The FH-P8000BT I had before had a band centered at 120 and was much more useful than the EQ in the F-series.

  13. I had the same problem plus a few others with the "packaged" data.zip for the blue box issue. In addition to the posted issue, on my F90 the menu and map buttons didn't work on certain screens.

I re-downloaded just a day or so ago and still had problems

I backed it out and restored the original and the issues went away. I then manually created my own data.zip using the original from my F90, replacing the one file pulled from the packaged data.zip, and the problems were not present.

Note: don't use winzip or you'll see the dreaded "startup in progress" forever - I used winrar and may simply use UNIX gzip next time.
