  1. Took me awhile to get this all figured out and I had to draw from multiple sources since the other hardwire bypass thread is littered with conflicting information and information on the software bypass which is irrelevant if you do the hardwire bypass. So, with credit to those whose pictures I'm using, here you go:

NOTE: THIS IS THE PURE HARDWARE BYPASS. IF YOU DO THIS BYPASS, YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO THE SOFWARE BYPASS. PLEASE DO NOT ASK SOFTWARE BYPASS QUESTIONS IN THIS THREAD.

I disagree with the the statement that you do not need to do the software bypass-at least on the F500, if you just ground the parking break wire, unless you change the "parking_break_speed=16.0" speed to a greater value, you might as well not even bother grounding the parking break wire as those functions that the bypass enables won't be available over 10 mph. One other thing to mention. The parking break speed in "parking_break_speed=16.0" is in Kilometers per hour. If you set it to 128, the functions that the bypass enables will be blacked out at 80 mph. I changed mine to 256 as while I don't often drive over 80 mph, I want the full functionality if I do.

The statement is accurate. This thread describes grounding the parking break wire AND the mute wire relocation and grounding. If that's done properly, no software bypass is necessary.

  2. Well, no...as I understand it, this, or some variation of this, has been the way to bypass Pioneer decks for quite some time. Presumably, the first guy to "discover" it would be able to tell you how he figured it out (which would tell you why it works), but at this point it's sort of collective historical fact, I think.

  3. Twelve pages in this thread, and NO ONE has explained, with the hardware bypass, what exactly the "new mute wire location" pin is...... Yes we all know it works, but what is this pins official function? Does anyone have a clue? Is it written in the service and repair manuals you can download from here?

Someone please tell me to put my mind at ease :)

There is some speculation here: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=19689&start=90#p159041

There are also a couple of explanations floating out there on the interwebs that suggest that you could just as easily use a new, blank wire in that location and get the same effect, but people suggest using the rarely-used mute wire for convenience. Why, exactly, you need a wire plugged into this slot in the harness (whether it be the relocated mute wire or some other wire), I don't know. But, Google is your friend. Nevertheless, I'll take a quick peek and report back if I find anything.

  4. Glad you guys got it figured out. The "iPod Cover Art Problem" is, frankly, something I never considered since my wife doesn't own one and the AVIC is in her car, but it has come up a few times in this thread. If you go back through this thread, others have found varying solutions to it, but it's always good to see people solve the same problem different ways. Best of luck!

  5. Im not looking for knob to do anything different. I'm looking for there to be arrows on the nav screen to go to the next preset - is that possible??

Press "FM" in the bottom right, then use the Preset arrows (that's a joke; although it does work).

Ive seen some mods where they have controls for an ipod or music player in the nav screen so why not preset arrows??

What you've probably seen are mods that take certain functionality and does it in a mildly different (and probably better) way. That's easily possible because that functionality was already integrated into the nav software by Pioneer in the first place; the mod just tweaks the way it's done. What you're asking for is functionality in the nav software (and, specifically, in the way it interacts with the a/v software) that just doesn't exist in the stock firmware (i.e. to my knowledge, there's no button/command in the stock nav software that allows you to switch presets).

Although I more or less checked out of this board a long time ago, I still check back from time to time, and I'm not aware of anyone that has added wholly new a/v functionality and control to the nav software. I may be wrong on that (although, if I am, I'd be interested in a link), and I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm just saying it's not super easy to do like a lot of the other mods in the nav software (that are largely just re-arranging and re-implementing existing commands).

    --Mav

  6. agreed - can one of the modders address this? Is modding the avic to allow to control the presets from the steering wheel a difficult mod to develop? GTImatt? IDT? Thoughts?

I believe steering wheel control falls more into the wire harness department than the software mod department. As for changing the behavior of pressing left/right on the knob (i.e. from "next channel" to "next preset"), that may be doable, but I'm pretty sure that's "outside" the nav software. That being the case, it will likely be substantially harder to actually mod. You'll note that very, VERY few of the mods on this board deal with anything outside of the nav software itself. There's a reason for that.

  7. For the record, I'm not having these problems either. I monitor that thread from time to time and the only one of those three bugs that has been reported before is "generally sluggish", but I haven't really experienced that either. You're the first (of probably lots of folks by this point) to experience the other two (to my knowledge anyway), so I'm guessing there's something else going on there.

  8. First of all great job. Maverick !!!

Finally you can work faster with the unit. It works well on the EU version. And the speedometer are in km/h.

I have one question though. I want a little adjustment and i've tried myself but i cant figure it out.

What i want is: a button to put in a new address when a route is allready active. I've tried to use the GPS button to modify, but everything i've tried doesnt work.

I am a salesman and i put in several adresses and use the "via" option and then calculate the optimized route.

Can someone please help me out?

Should be fairly simple, you probably need to move the current find address button to somewhere that doesn't cover other things (as it's current location is the same as the mute/unmute button) and then remove the visiblemodel clause so it always shows whether a route is active or not.

It won't be quite as simple as that because the "mute/unmute button" is not a separate button that covers up the "find address button" when a route is active. Rather, it's toggled -- when there's a route, the button is "mute/unmute"; when there's not, the button is "find address". So, if he just moves it, he won't find anything underneath it. Hope that makes some sense.

  9. I have a question, though, I'm Italian and I'm using a setting in KM/h and meters for altitude, will your mod increase the speed number size and add the altitude even if I have selected metric system? and, basically I'm going to see the speed in kilometers and get the altitude in meters or exactly as you posted in your screen shots in miles and feet?

It should work that way, yes.

  10. Hey, Mav,

Just a confirmation. The clickable Zip on the first page IS the latest and greatest Data Zip mods even when using Ipods?? I did'nt find the code for the voice mute though added to the latest version. Should I do this one separately? (***CORRECTION*** I found the voice mute code...:))

Thanx again for all of your hard work and effort!!! :D:D:D

It's the current version used by me. I don't use an iPod, so it doesn't incorporate any mods to accommodate the iPod cover art (as others have done elsewhere in this thread and on this forum).

  11. I'd love to try the 2008.4 ones, but every link I've been able to find is dead. Seems like I'm about 3 months late...plenty of links to Europe, etc, but North America is hard to find so far.

    Check your PM

...ahem...hmmmm...pm...me would likey too. Thanks Boris!

  12. As for the settings on the route info box, that's a byproduct of the somewhat lazy way that code is written. I effectively "hardwired" the three pieces of info I'm interested in. Since I would personally never want to change it, there's no "toggle" function in the code in my data.zip.

Having said that, with a little time and effort, you could probably figure out how to revise the code to re-enable the traditional way of changing the content (i.e. through the settings menu) or even better (and frankly, this may be easier to code), rework that section to make each of the three content fields in the box toggle between 2 or 3 different pieces of information apiece by simply pressing that field.

As I indicated above, I'm not really interested in setting mine up that way, so I'm not really interested in going through that process, but if you take a look at the code for the route info box (and the code immediately adjacent to it that is commented out), you should be able to figure out a way to get this to work. Also, there are some bits of code and helpful tips from both Stephanie and Vorian which would be helpful in this regard.

    Good luck!

P.S. As for the Map Confirmation Button, I don't know what to tell you, but I don't think it's a problem with my data.zip because, again, it works fine for me.

P.P.S. Dumpy, thanks for the compliment and WELL DONE on your spin on it. Looks great! I poke in here from time to time to see what sort of collective progress has been made and, I have to tell you, I'm really impressed.

  13. The Map Confirmation Button works just fine in my setup (which, not surprisingly, uses my "stock" Data.zip). I had originally tried to move the Map Confirmation Button around in a much earlier version of my mods, but ran into some difficulty doing so (http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=134097). As Boris suggested in that thread, the code for that button is spread out over multiple .ui files. Since, at that point, I didn't want to really undertake the necessary effort to actually move that button around, I just set it back to its stock location and spaced my other buttons around it (as Keeper suggested).

So, in other words, the location and action of the Map Confirmation Button in my Data.zip is unchanged from stock 2.0 file. I am not sure what is causing your issue, but I suspect it's subsequent modification of the code. I suspect that because I use my data.zip with no further modifications and do not have the problem you're describing. Having said that, I'm all ears if someone identifies a problem with it.

  14. Data.zip and first page worth of posts have been updated to resolve the following issues:

    1. 2D/3D Toggle Button now works correctly. If you have used my Data.zip and subsequently made your own revisions such that you would prefer not to download a whole new Data.zip, all I did was add a Z index layer command that brought the button forward (i.e. "Z=3001") to both the 2D and the 3D button. If you prefer to cut and paste, in the navigatemap_800_480.ui file in the DATA/ui_pioneer/800_480/ui folder in the DATA.zip file, replace this:

    ;2D-3D Button

    with this:

    ;2D-3D Button

    2. Altimeter in lower left (when no route active) now shows elevation in feet, not miles. If you have used my Data.zip and subsequently made your own revisions such that you would prefer not to download a whole new Data.zip, all I did was change the "navigation.current_altitude.full_text" command to "gps.elevation". If you prefer to cut and paste, in the navigatemap_800_480.ui file in the DATA/ui_pioneer/800_480/ui folder in the DATA.zip file, replace this:

;current speed (and speed limit where present) and altitude when not navigating

    ;

    with this:

;current speed (and speed limit where present) and altitude when not navigating

    ;

so this will make the 2d 3d button work? mine was not working. i did switch ur nav 800 480 ui with parkers so i just add this right? mav i'm talkin to u genius.

All you need to do is add the z=3001 in the two places indicated in the second code excerpt quoted above.

  15. This is great information, but I would like to add one question...

I am able to load my contacts from my Blackberry 8703e, but the Voice commands do not work.

Do you know what causes the VC to not function? Is there something that I can change in this database to enable VSs?

I don't know why, but after I transferred my phonebook (successfully), I couldn't get vc to work correctly either. Editing the file in accordance with this thread fixed that. Again, I don't know the "why", but i do know that it worked for me. YMMV.

  16. please help mav!!!! i ran your update with parkers ui and my sh@t went crazy. got all the way to vt from ri and my system kept rebooting itself the whole way home. it was the newest update of parkers ui (12/09) .. any way got home put my backed up file of the original data zip back on and now my clock will keep auto resetting to navy time ie 1700 instead of 5:00. i go in and manually reset it turn the auto time update off and BAM back to army time!!!!!

WHAT DO I DO??????????? help me plz

Hmmm...that's definitely odd. I'd put the original 2.0 data.zip on, then restore the factory settings in Navi settings and go from there. With regard to 24 hour or 12 hour clock, I believe that is in the regional settings in the Navi settings menu.

    --Mav

ok i'll give it a try and get back to you. thanx

now my shit reboots steady every 2 minutes

ok so did that and still resetting . seemed like it had something to do with the nav setting whenever it tried to recalculate route it would just start rebooting . the other weird thing is after putting back fact zip from my desktop i lost key beeps on everything but the nav menus even the hard buttons, and my custom splash screen kept flashing . when i tried to set it back there were no options no default or anything in the splash screen menu. realy weird.. now i don't know what happened to the original i may have opened it up wrong on my desktop or something, i did look through it but NEVER touched or modded my backup!?!?!

long story short i freaked out called my buddy who has the exact same deck ( and is running your mods without parkers ui and is running great) took his og flash disk file and repllace the whole flash disk folder ie deleted whole folder from my device and copy paste my buddies seemed to fix everything... get back on in a couple let ya know how its working.

THANK you again mav for taking the time out for my noob prob. and i know i'm pushin my luck but any way u could post a new data zip with parkers moved keys his file deos not agree with my deck thanx mang

ps i made custom vc menu could that have anything to do with this mess?????

Yeah, your custom vc menu could have something to do with it. What you're describing sounds like there's improper command in some of the code you added (if the system gets hung up on something it doesn't understand, sometimes it'll just keep retrying by resetting). I'm pretty sure it's not the stuff in my data.zip because I'm not having a problem like that and if it was an error in the code in my data.zip, everyone using it would be having the same problem.

Hope you get it figured out.

    Good luck.

  17. Your mods are good but doing your own car is a little boring.

Not my mod. I kinda like the red arrow. Point is you can do it yourself with pretty much anything you want. If you look back through here for some of the posts by Stephanie, you'll see she did a Battle Star Gallactica something or other. Don't really know what it is, but apparently if you're a fan of the show, you would. Just do the mod and use whatever image you want.
