  1. I searched but I couldn't find anything irrelevant to this exact particular scenario.

I have read that it is possible to install a Avic F500bt INPLACE of a headunit. If you can install it inplace of a headunit, can you hook it up to an aftermarket 4 channel amplifier instead of the ND-G500? Or is it possible to go through and bypass the G500 and then into a different amp? Or would I be stuck with the G500?

Reason being is because the car I wish to install a stereo in, just does not have the room for a deck without severe modification. I was hoping for a bit more power as well then what the ND-G500 can kick out as it will be in a rear engine convertible, so the cockpit is quite loud.

If you can hook it up that way, what would be the disadvantages? I know I wouldn't have radio, but I would just be using my ipod anyways, and I am sure i could stream radio off my iphone into it as well.. Would I be able to fine tune any audio settings what's so ever (like High pass, bass, treble, etc..)?

The compactability of the F500 would be ideal, but I want to be able to control and fine tune the audio settings as well.

  2. Okay so my N3 has always worked great for me. But this last week we had a major cold snap here (-45ish Celsius, -49ish Fahrenheit). I went to work the one day, and when I went to leave 10 hours later I started my car, put my faceplate back on. The lights on the front of the deck came on and I heard it start to boot up, and then a few seconds later it just shut off.

I thought it was maybe alittle to cold for the deck, so i took the faceplate off again and drove without it, and I put my car in my heated garage for a couple days and drove my other vehicle. I went and tryed it again tonight, and it does the exact same thing. Powers up for a few seconds and then just shuts off. If i turn off the key and turn the key back on again, it will try booting up again, and then once again shut off.

The front lights come on, and I can here the fan start and everything, but it doesn't stay on long enough for anything to even show up on the screen.

Do you guys have any idea what might be the problem? Did the cold kill it?

  3. So my N3 started acting up..

Basically, the screen won't go in and out anymore. It is out right now and flipped up but it is sitting abit crooked (right side is out a bit further the the left).. I know that for one thing, one of the gears is broken off as i can see it broken off inside the unit..

The other problem is that it doesn't accept/eject discs anymore. Doesn't even make an attempt, (in other words, you can't hear motor even trying to eject/insert the disk).. it also flashes mechanism error on the screen.

What all do you think is possibly wrong with the deck? Is it even worth getting it fixed? How much do you think Pioneer would charge to fix it?

    Thanks.
