  1. Hi

I think I am having the same problem - firstly what is supposed to happen if this works correctly? Is it the same as the 900, as in at night the blue sky on the nav screen is dark? If yes then mine is not working as it stays blue all of the time? It is set to automatic!!!

May need to go back to the installer

    Cheers

    Paul

On VAG cars you won't be able to get it working through the harness. You'll need an interface. Since you are in the UK you should be able to pick up Connects2 interface which will give you everything you need. Damn CAN bus.

  2. ^^^Right

Im so sick of people bitching and complaining and for some reason thinking they are entitiled to get everything for free. You are paying for a map update and the license. You have to pay for a map update for any GPS system you buy. Stop bitching and deal with it. Its the way the world works. I too wish that everything in life was free and i didnt have to work a day for anything and everything was just handed to me as well. But its not going to happen because thats life. So stop whining and realize that youre not special and not gods gift to the earth and if you want something you need to pay for it. If you dont feel you should pay for it dont buy it and shut the hell up. Im sorry but im so sick of listening to everyone whine and complain. In the end you get nothing out of it. Grow up.

haha well put. I feel the same way. Although I saw somewhere a mention that the firmware 3.0 upgrade will be free but you will have to pay for maps. Maps are never free no matter what device they are on but $60 to get the new F/W and maps is a kickass deal

  3. Maps on these things are very outdated so you will get some erroneous direction once in a while. TN seems to be pretty bad about that. My last trip through TN, while I was going through Knoxville, it took me off the highway through downtown just to direct me back to the highway again.

  4. I doubt you'll be able to remove it easily. Looks like there even might be a clear coat over it too. Not 100% on that.

Just remove the trim and paint it. You don't even have to sand it so if you change your mind later on you can just strip the paint. I did that.

  5. we will see!!! how much for the upgrade..b/c i dont care about new maps but i do care for a software upgrade.b/c i am sick of this unit..

i am fixing to to pull it out..fnd a pionner store here in chicago .. go in and hit the pioneer rep on head with it..

i am not going to buy not even a pen from pioneer ..not even toilet paper pionner brand...thats it.,,,,, as of now

i am waiting or the...this big ..huge ..grea upgreat to come ..let see

my son wants new cd. spesakers.. for his room i told him...NOOOOOO PIONEER...NO PIONEERR .ANYTHING ELSE i would be happy to pay for it but.. no more shit from them

It's scary that you have a kid.

All this has already been discussed in other threads.

  6. Also - the maps on the z stored on a hard drive, not in flash memory or anything of that nature.

How is that better? HDD is more likely to fail than flash. And the screen is 1.2" larger which honestly is not that big of a difference. I used to have 7" LCD and I don't miss it that much. Buttons, icons and text is already big enough that it will not make any difference. You'll have tiny bit more real estate but that's about it.

  7. Is there a programming phase of the installation for the steering wheel controls on the Connects2 piece? Or does it work as they did from the factory?

    No programming or learning involved.

There is some learning needed. Quoting the manual:

    a) Connect the permanent 12V, ground and the two CAN wires to the correct wires in the vehicle.

    B) Switch the ignition on to the accessory position.

    c) The bi-colour LED should flash red while the interface is checking the CAN configuration of the vehicle.

    d) Once the interface has found the correct configuration the bi-colour LED will permanently illuminate green.

    e) The interface will only search for the correct configuration for one minute. After this time, searching will stop.

f)lf the vehicle is supported, the correct configuration will normally be found within fifteen seconds of the CAN network being active.

  8. Relating to the hissing issues you guys have, that's not unit's fault. Or at least not if it's a working unit. I have no hiss. It's actually dead silent where my OEM stereo was hissing pretty bad and Audi called that normal.

Also, touchscreen works just fine on mine.

I'm not denying that the unit doesn't have it's faults but seems like a lot of these are issues that are related to how your system is setup and what aftermarket stuff you are using. Can't blame Pioneer for that.
