Ok im way late but I need assistance something serious I have the 700bt system settings are grayed out but I would like to upgrade to the latest firmware do I need to go from  2 to 3 to 4 or can I go from 2 to 4 and where can I download also can I use a galaxy note 9 to write the files on an SD via an SD reader. Email is jculb1988@gmail.com please help

Do you guys still need help? Sorry, but haven't been here in a while.

  2. Start here to update firmware:

    Here next to update maps:

I did this, but didn't have to install a third party mod.  After I did the firmware update, I copied the new map and poi files to their correct folders and the they worked correctly.

Almost forgot...  Make sure you back up before you start.  You need the backed up files for the firmware upgrade anyway.  Since they did a lot of construction in the Pittsburgh area, it's awesome that it doesn't look like I'm driving through someone's back yard now.  ...lol

  3. The benefits of 3.0 are posted all over this forum. In my experience, the best things about 3.0 are the touch screen response and the better maps and map graphics. I bought mine at the introductory price of $68.60. $120 is a little steep, but for the touch screen response it may be worth it to you. Your call.

  4. The quickest fix I know of would be to copy your music files to a PC. Format your flash disk to FAT32 and copy them back. I'm sure there's probably a way to correct the files on your MAC, but don't know for sure myself. I have a friend that borrows my flash drive and plugs it into her MAC and it always comes back with those funky MAC files on it.

  5. To be totally honest, I didn't find this forum until after I had already bought my F700BT and after reading about all the problems people are having I thought, what in the world did I get myself into. Now that I've been using it since January of this year, (installed it myself by the way) I really like it a lot. The only trouble I had with my unit was kinda self inflicted. I had an accident a week after I installed it and removed the amp so it wouldn't get stolen while at the body shop, but didn't disconnect the power wire from the battery. When I got the truck back and reinstalled the amp, it wouldn't go past the splash screen. All I did was go into test mode and made no changes and it started running fine again. Not a problem since though. I installed a Boyo reverse camera about a month ago and it works perfectly. I don't know if some of the problems people are having are self inflicted also (maybe hacking or modding), but I haven't done a single hack or mod to my unit, excluding the 3.0 upgrade and reverse camera. I didn't even do the parking brake bypass. I'm completely content with pulling over and setting the parking brake to access the navi settings. I just upgraded to 3.0 (legit) a couple weeks ago and my unit went from good to great. I finally got a blue tooth phone last week (LG CF360) and now I'm having an issue with voice recognition and my contacts, but after reading some posts in the forum it's more an issue with the phone than with the HU. My contacts aren't being synced to the F700 in the correct format. Overall, I'm very happy with the way the unit works. Sure the bootup time is a little slow, but if you look at it like it's a PC booting up (which essentially it is), it's not so bad. I always leave my FM radio as the last selected source and I'm listening to music within about ten seconds and the reverse camera is functional within about 15 seconds after starting the truck. It connects to my BT phone within 2 blocks of leaving my house so I'm ok with that too. Playing music from a SD card is working perfectly. I don't know about the iPod because I can't justify the cost. I'm gonna be 50 this month so maybe that has something to do with it. ...lol I know the people that bought these units when they first came out have a totally legit bitch, but now that we're up to version 3.0 it's a good purchase as far as I'm concerned. Hope this helps in your decision to purchase or not.

  6. Oh, I have also noticed with the update that sometimes right after boot, the splash screen will flash onto the screen, then it goes to the navigation menu, and will be unresponsive for a short moment. Then after pushing a button or two, it will take me to the radio screen (being that where it was shut off at), but there is no header bar. But going back to main and forward to radio resolves it.

My F700 has been doing great since I upgraded, but now is starting to do this exact same thing at random times, not at every bootup.

  7. You guys are scaring the crap outa me!

That's exactly how I felt after reading all of these posts, but I updated my F700 the other day, and it couldn't have been smoother. It didn't fail anywhere during the installation, and in 40 minutes or so it was all done, and I couldn't be happier with it! My feeling is that on any internet forum like this, most people are posting because they have a problem that needs to be fixed, and the ones that are doing fine never chime in.

I'm with the Riverman... I'm an older fart just like you, and I had no problems whatsoever upgrading my F700. Just go for it teaster. I was having second thoughts too with all the negative posts. If you have probs, I'm sure you'll get help in this forum. Lots of good people here.

  8. Does it still have all the functions without the updated TTS files? Just a guess, but maybe the files it was trying to install were already on your system???

The map version will not change with the 2.06 upgrade. This is a firmware update only. You will have to buy the 3.0 upgrade to get the newer maps (second link I posted above). The 3.0 upgrade has a newer version of iGo (navi software) and Win CE (OS). It completely cleans the flash disk and replaces all with 3.0 files. IMO, it is really worth the price just for how the touch screen response is so much better. A few other new goodies too. It took my system from being good to great. Trust me... I'm no Pioneer rep or anything, but the 3.0 upgrade is well worth the price of admission.

Confusing... Tell me about it... I've spent hours and hours searching the forums, but have really learned a lot. I've accidentally found things that I had no clue this HU could do. This forum is loaded with information, but it takes a lot of patience to sift through it.

  9. I just got my F700BT in January, so I'm still a relative noob myself. I'll try to answer a few anyway...

    1. All the F Series are running Win CE as an OS, so considering that, boot times aren't bad. About 10 seconds to FM radio (if that's what you had selected before turning the car off). For a fully functional unit, it takes about a minute or 2 at most. Some people complain about that, but it doesn't bother me in the least.

    2. I'm using a 16GB SD card in mine now, so 8GB should be ok. Cowon???

    3. USB/SD/CD/DVD has no voice recognition that I know of. IPod does. You can change the source through VR though. "Change source to SD" for example.

    4. You'll have to search the forums for this, but I've read that users are playing AVI files and other formats.

    5. I installed my own so not too bad. Make sure you buy the correct wiring harness for your vehicle. Search the forums for the parking brake bypass hardware mod if that's what you want to do. There's a software mod too, but I didn't do either to mine. Those just let you access the navi settings while you're moving, but I have no problem pulling over and setting the parking brake. There's enough people on the road that don't pay attention to where they're going.

    6. Different users are having different luck depending on the phone. Search the forums...

    7. The EQ has tons of settings. You can play with that for hours if you want.

Make sure you upgrade to the current version after you get it installed. It took my HU from good to great!!!

The only thing is, I don't know if that's available for you Canucks yet???

    Hope that helps a little...

You'll have to excuse BorisM... If I was him, I'd be tired of answering these same questions over and over again too. Boris is a well respected member of this community.

  10. I don't really have time to type a complete tutorial, but these links should get you where you need to be. Just do a little reading and you should be ok. This one is a free firmware download.

After upgrading to version 2.006, I strongly recommend paying the cost and upgrading to the latest version. You'll be really impressed with your HU if you do. Just read in the F-Series forum about it. Lots of good reviews. New maps and just a better overall unit.

    Hope this helps...

  11. I just finished upgrading and everything went as smooth as silk. This is exactly what this unit needed. Just like everyone else, I'm finding the boot time the same, but the touch screen response is fantastic now. I'll find out how the BT works very soon. My current phone plan is expiring next week and I'm going to upgrade to a BT phone. The time it takes to read my 16GB SD card is also still about the same too, but before the EQ button was very sluggish at best. Now it's like my finger gets close to it and it changes to a different EQ setting. I still have to go for a cruise to see how the navi is working, but I had to post how impressed I am with the touch screen. I don't mean to rub it in to any of you guys who bought this unit when it first came out, but I paid $450 for mine in January of this year. Add the $68 upgrade and it is now a very good sub $500 system. I have to thank you early buyers though... Because of you, us AVIC-F series noobies are a lot better off.

Just got back from a short cruise and the navi is way better now too. The addition of the 2D directional setting is great. Road signs are cool too. I don't see any street names in 3D now unless I zoom in. Looks like I may be in for a little modding.

I have to rate this upgrade as A+. This includes the install also, with the exception of the time it takes. It took about 50 minutes start to finish.
