  1. Hello folks, I am hoping someone has an idea on what is going on with my AVIC-Z1

I have the bypass in place and have been using my AVIC-Z1 unit since 2008.

Unit was upgraded with a Toshiba MK6034GAX drive and the Z3 2010 Maps

Everything has worked perfectly for years since the upgrade, however last week I started getting "Cannot use HDD" error messages.  They seemed sporadic and would go away sometimes.  Finally on start they became permanent, so I figured I have a bad upgraded HDD.  I pulled it and ran diagnostics.  All good, nothing wrong with it.

As a test I took the original 30GB Toshiba HD the unit came with and put it in.  Same Result:   "Cannot Use HDD"

At this point I am thinking there is an internal issue with the unit as the original HD should have worked, no?

    Thoughts/Suggestions?

  2. Jumped in late on this one and the torrent has only 1 seed.  Slow but I do not mind the wait as long as its complete. Will update my Z1 (modded to Z3 & 2010 maps) once its done...

Is this image from the stock 30GB HD or from an upgraded Toshiba 60GB drive? - Nevermind, got it and it seems stock.

UPDATE:  I did the restore of the Maps and System partitions and all seemed well, however the AVIC is now saying "Cannot Use HDD" at startup in 3 languages.  I tried to restore the full drive (all partitions from the torrent image and got the same result, so I am sure I did not mess anything up in the 1st restore.  Anyone else have this issue???

  3. Hey Guys, I have the Z1 upgraded to a Z3 and I love it but do hate no Bluetooth iPhone support for music playback even with the Bluetooth add-on. So I am considering an upgrade to a Z110BT then the maps upgrade to Z120BT.

Anyway, I cannot seem to find any pictures anywhere of the Z110BT/Z120BT units displaying BOTH a large 3D and a side 2D map like the Z1/Z2/Z3 do (see below)

    file.php?avatar=9068.jpg

Is this dual map display option possible on these new units?

Also, is there a "2wire" unlock mod for the Z110BT/Z120BT units as well?

    Thanks!

  4. I just called the amazon seller from your link, and they are NOT in stock and they do not have an ETA :(

Your upgrade option should work fine. If your drive is already unlocked, then you can email me about possible upgrade options.

LOL, I just found the buy link, did not check availability, but thanks for doing so. I am sure if we pre-order we get it as soon as it's available, plus $20 cheaper then direct from Pioneer...

I am curious as to what "upgrade" options you are referring to with my drive? It is not the stock drive, I think I still have the stock HD somewhere, but it is locked by the Z1...

I replaced the stock HD with a Toshiba 60GB 5400RPM drive before my initial Z1 to Z2 "upgrade" in December 2008 and I disabled the ATA locking on it before installing it. The upgraded 60GB drive has worked flawlessly BTW since 2008 with not one freeze or reboot, it is currently running the "stock" Z3 image, and it is model # MK6034GAX

  5. Thanks garrettoomey,

I think that since my Z1 has a lot or music, destination info and addresses that I am better off buying the CNDV-1000HD from Amazon (see HERE) and doing a "clean" upgrade from my setup.

I just hope I do not run into any problems as my Z1 has a non-stock HD (unlock fixed) with the stock Z3 image done through an Acronis dump when the Z3 came out. I do have the 2 wire mod tho so hopefully I will not loose any functionality...

You guys thing this will work just fine?

  6. Interesting,

So let me see if I understand correctly:

    1) The new CNDV-1000HD update from Pioneer (2010 Maps) will break any soft-mod from the previous version, correct?

    2) The "2 wire bypass mod" STILL works with the new CNDV-1000HD update on the Z1/Z2/Z3, correct?

    3) The new CNDV-1000HD update installs without a Key/password/unique serial #?

I have the Z1 that I have upgraded to a Z3 w/ the 2009 Maps, and I also have the 2 wire mod, so I just wanted to ensure that the new CNDV-1000HD update will be fully compatible with my setup, and I will not end up loosing my bypass.

    Thanks!

P.S. sethdogg81, aside from the loss of bypass, how do you like the update, is it a major difference/improvement?

  7. I would bet good money that the upgrade would work the same as the one from the Z1 to the Z2. The trick is someone getting the Z3 virgin image and playing with it. There might be some patching needed but should not be too bad. Hardware from Z3 looks identical to Z1/Z2 so this seems like a maps and Gracenote update, plus maby some voice features.

I did the Z1 to Z2 upgrade using a 2nd large HD, so I would recommend that method to ensure you do not mess up your working drive.

Now we are all waiting on the TIB or ISO for the Z3...

  8. I'm puzzled by a comment made earlier:

"I took the toshiba 60gb hdd, turned off security by putting it in my laptop...."

Could someone please explain what that means and how it's done with only a desktop?

I did mine like that. Basically just hooked it as the main HDD in a laptop and then booted with the floppy of the security removal tool made as per the awesome instructions from AFMagnum. That was easy!

More info HERE, look under "Q: How do I disable the lock on my HDD" and follow the instructions...

  9. Hey there,

I am dumping the Z2Bypassed.tib Acronis image onto a new TOSHIBA 60GB HD, but I wanted to make sure I expand the right partition during the process as the "original" image is from a 30GB HD, and mine will be 60GB.

Looking inside the Z2Bypassed image with Acronis, I see 4 partitions as follows:

    [ 17.52 GB FAT32 ] [ 572.8 MB FAT32 ] [ 9.308 GB FAT32 ] [ 572.8 MB FAT32 ]

If I a not mistaken, the 9.308 GB partition ( 3rd one in the image ) is the one that takes the music and should be expanded to take up the almost 30GB difference from the stock HD to the 60GB replacement, correct?

    Thanks!

EDIT: Update! - YES the 9.308 GB partition is the one that needs to be expanded! - Worked a charm!

  10. Nope, nothing breaks the bypass "patch".

And just to clarify, the firmware update DOES go into the flash memory, but it gets there via the software on the hard drive, and is updated any time the firmware definitions on the drive are different than the eprom.

OK this is good to know, now as soon as my 60GB Toshiba gets to me next week I'll be disabling the ATA locking, applying the "Z2Bypassed.tib" image, followed by running the Z2Firmware CD from Pioneer, and then post my results.

    Thanks again Hyperite!

P.S. I also plan on removing the splash screens as garrettoomey described HERE by renaming the 2 files from the "Z2Bypassed" image. Anyone experience any troubles after doing that?

P.P.S Will the above remove the warning from the MAPS screen where you have to touch [OK] to see the maps after initial power-up? If not, does anyone know any way to remove it?

  11. Thanks Hyperite, that is excellent. I had feared the Firmware update went into flash memory on the Z1 itself and not on the drives. Glad to hear that is not the case.

Also, if I apply the new Z2 firmware linked above to a new Toshiba 60GB HD I have just setup with the "Z2Bypassed.tib" Acronis image, will it reset or "break" the software bypass patch in the Z2 image?

    Thanks!

  12. Hmmm... OK, that is good to hear, however after doing either procedure, if something goes wrong with the new HD (lockups, reboots, etc...) I can no longer revert to the stock HD, since it has the Z1 data on it and now my Z1 will have Z2 firmware, correct?

To make it work with the stock HD would I be able to flash the "Z2" with the Z1 firmware back?

    Thanks.

  13. Hey there,

I have just noticed the news about Pioneer releasing a new firmware update HERE

I have a Z1 unit, /w stock HD, originally bypassed with the Ducatiboy flasher circuit. I also did the Gracenote update.

Yesterday I have just done the 06/07 two-wire bypass, and grounded the break and the rightmost pin in connector 2. After that I did the official Pioneer Bluetooth CD update, and unit remained unlocked. So far so good.

I was planning on getting a new HD (40 to 60GB) and loading the Z2Bypassed.tib image (from HERE) into it, as not to mess with the stock HD.

No problems there, except now that the Firmware updates have been released, I was wondering what the proper sequence should be:

    1) Install Z1 firmware from HERE 1st

    2) Pull stock HD and replace with Z2Bypassed one

    3) Install Z2 firmware

    or

    1) Pull stock HD and replace with Z2Bypassed one

    2) Install Z2 firmware

Finally, and in either scenario I'd obviously like to keep the bypass working so maybe someone can confirm the best method and no loss of bypass.

    Thanks!

  14. I have already updated my Verizon Treo 700WX to v1.22 and it works ... well... kinda like before... I did not see any MAJOR difference, though I did not test too much either... too hot outside :-)

For reference I'm using it with a Z1, pre-bluetooth Z1 update as I did not want to loose my hardware "patches" and resort to messing with the wiring.

Maybe others had time to do a more in depth review of the benefits of the Treo 700WX v1.22 firmware update...
