  1. I have a Z1 that I upgraded to a z3 a while ago. I have the 2012 maps but have forgetten which partition is which since its been a while. I have 4 partitions on my drive LDAT,SDAT,DONT_DEL015 and another DONT_DEL015. Which partitions am I restoring is it LDAT and SDAT? This is the part I am no too sure about for LDAT is the target LDAT (17.51GB) or DONT_DEL015 (18.61GB), instructions say to choose larget partition. Thanks in advance for clearing this up.

    LDAT and SDAT

  2. If you have microsoft skydrive account (free) I can share them with you.

Thanks for the reply dtomcat. I am not sure what you mean by a newsgroup or FAST. (acronym?) Never used them. The torrent doesn't seem to be friendly to utorrent. I will google newsgroups and see what I can do. Thanks again!

Edit: Looked up newsgroups. Not sure what to do here. If I pay the access fee for a month or whatever I just use the torrent link to find it? The torrent didn't work for me on utorrent or bittorrent.

  3. Just unrar the files then you're good to go.

Is a PM the only way to get the torrent? I downloaded the 125 and 132 files but I am unsure what to do with them. Repair them like the fella said and all is good?

I am assuming it is a drive image. I have read the tutorials for unlocking the drive and am fine with hooking the drive to my computer. I don't know if I need to or not though. The unit came with an upgraded HDD installed already, it is a 120GB. I am thinking it will be unlocked already.

P.S. This is going in an Avic Z2 if that matters

Edit: Downloaded QuickPar and am getting nowhere. It says no repair needed. I have never used it before so it might be something I am doing wrong.

  4. I'm a Comp Sci person so don't tell me this is too complex for me to do ;)

but here is my problem, has anyone did this on a dell system before? All the systems I have are Dell and they all require cable select mode! none work with master/slave you have 2 choices in the BIOS setup for the hard drive controller... OFF or Auto Cable Select... I tried the drive as master on its secondary IDE channel but it didn't detect it at all.. thought wierd... so tried the systems main hard drive in master mode and it wouldn't detect it either... only in Cable select mode would it ever work... so rejumpered the main HDD to CS and went online to look up this toshiba automotive drive's jumper settings... found how to switch it to CS mode... but still doesnt work! not sure if this drive has different jumpers or not... couldnt find specific jumper settings for it only "older models" jumper settings for notebook drives and "newer model" jumper settings... tried them both.. none worked... put it back in my AVIC-Z2 and drive works... so its not the drive itself... kinda think it's dell's IDE controller being stupid with the required cable select mode... so I ordered today a PCI IDE controller for my newer SATA only system to try on there... hopefully this IDE card has master/slave mode and works! if not might be my 2.5 to 3.5 inch IDE adapter thats bad... just bought it though... for a whole $3... IDE card was a whole $9 so, so far not too far money wise into this... anyone else every have this problem with a dell system doing this? i only have one dell system with IDE to test this on the other 2 have SATA only...

I have a Dell too. All I have to do is to plug the drive to an IDE cable by itself and it works. Of cource you have to change the settings in the BIOS.

  5. Hello,

I was reading thru the forum and noticed that there is no need for drive unlocking if the drive is new. Reading this forum it states to disable security with MHDD. http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=728, Then you need to unlock the drive.

But in other postings it says you don't need to if the drive is new.

What I did thus far is use the MHDD tool and disabled the security feature, then I used Acronis true image to place the Z3 image on the drive. Is there anything else i need to do before place back into my vehicle?

Can some pls clarify this for me?

    Thanks, G

If you don't disable the security of your new drive, it will be locked as soon as you insert it in the Z and power the unit up.

  6. Does anyone know if its possible? I am asking because I'll be unlocking it soon to do the z3 upgrade on a seperate hdd. I will be adding the songs onto the other hdd from my comp but for now I'll be using an mp3 cd for my songs and would like to know if I can use a dvd loaded with mp3 for now.

    NO

  7. Hey guys I have an image of the Z3 I will be glad to donate. Here's the thing.......It is on a Toshiba 40gig 5400rpm HD. I have no way to upload this image. It is unlocked. I do have a HD duplicating machine. I can cloan up 5 at one time. If someone would supply a HD I would be glad to cloan it so it can be posted to the correct location. I can't upload the directly from the HD because I have no of connecting it to my PC. But will help get to someone who can get it up. 8)

Does it need to be an identical drive?

  8. I am thinking about moving to XM from Sirius I currently pay 29.00 for 2 cars to have Sirius and 1 has nav traffic. For a 1.00 cheaper I can get XM and both cars have nav traffic... but I am wondering is the quality of sound just as good? Any info would be appreciated...

I have both XM and Sirius, and I like Sirius' programming better. Sirius sound quality seems to be better too. But XM NAVTRAF is nicer though. However, it's just my personal opinion.

  9. Perhaps you can help me. I just got a BBerry 8830 and can't get it to pair with my Z2. I am told it's because the Z2 can't play with a windows based phone. How did you get yours to pair ?

That's not true. I have a Samsung I760 and it pairs with the Z2 just fine. Make sure you have the "Handfree" option check under your Z2 decive in your phone.
