  1. The onstar mic needs power. If you decouple the dc from the audio signal you can use it for the avic. But the sound quality is poor and not loud enough. I even tried to built a power supply for the mic (dont need the onstar) but the quality was still not good enough.

Finally i bought a garmin mic, sound and signal strength is much more better.

Thanks for the information and keeping me from wasting my time. I've been looking at the Garmin mic myself and sounds like I'll be getting that now and figuring out a way to make it look like a factory mic in the headliner.

  2. I was actually looking into this recently. I don't have a car with OnStar, a Pontiac GTO, but I need to redo my headliner and was thinking about getting a OnStar Mic from some GM vehicle at a junk yard and creating a hole in my headliner and inserting it for a clean, OEM look. I just had a couple questions. Are the OnStar Mic's any good? I see they have noise cancellation but would that work since it's not installed in a OnStar equipped car? Is there only a hot and ground wire coming from the OnStar Mic? From the Pioneer Mic cable?

Thanks for the help ahead of time.

  3. Here's a little back story. I bricked my F90BT with 2.0. I sent it to Pioneer and they repaired it and sent it back. While it was being repaired I received the 3.0 update. I installed it the other day and immediately updated it. The update went fine. Only thing is it failed on the second card twice, but I just hit retry and it pulled through.

Anyways, after it installed the GPS immediately began screwing up. It can find me and says I have good signal strength and I average 7 green locked satellites. But it shows me going down the street backwards at times, thinks I'm turning down every side street I pass, no matter what speed I pass it at, and when it does show me going down the street the right direction it lags. I pass a street and the arrow representing me will pass the street on the map about 6-7 seconds later. Also, if I turn down a street, it hangs out at the intersection for about 10 seconds before catching up to my real location. I have tried moving the antenna everywhere including the hood, roof, trunk, inside rear window, inside dash, etc. All with no luck.

Another problem is it now reboots every 20-30 songs I skip on my iPod and will get stuck on the rebooting splash screen until I either unplug the iPod or reset it. Next problem is Voice Recognition no longer works. I say " Play artist Rise Against" it says "Playing All Artists," then proceeds to play ACDC? No matter what I say it says "Playing All Artists" then plays ACDC only. Sometimes I say a command and it will just shut down and not say anything or do anything.

I called Pioneer but they were no help. They just told me to send it back in. Any help would be appreciated, although I don't think there is much I can do.

  4. I honestly don't think I did this. I was using it and it was playing my iPod then it just turned off and refused to turn on. Everything was working fine before this too. The only thing I can think of is it was extremely hot, like unusually hot, in my car that day. Maybe I overheated it?

  5. Yeah, I was getting good reception from about 7 or 8 satellites. It said accuracy was "high." But the other night my unit just died. lol

It won't even turn on or boot to test mode. So to Pioneer it goes tomorrow. I just got off the phone with them and am sending it to Ohio. I honestly can't think of anything I did wrong but maybe I did. Hopefully I'll get it back within a month.

  6. And this is in 3D mode.

But I was wrong, it's not fixed. It's still acting up quite a bit. I'll be traveling 70+ on a highway and the arrow will all of a sudden turn and point me going sideways on the highway when there are no other roads around. It will also get very confused when passing side streets and going through intersections. I think I'm to try going to an open parking lot and driving in circles to see if that helps. I dunno what else to try.

  7. I also did the formatting option when I updated WinCE. Then I copied over the complete flash disc from the X-Series, then did the official update from Pioneers website. I know my hacks, which was only the software bypass, was not saved because I drove it and got the it's not hooked up correctly warning. I did just re-apply the software bypass and it has not effected anything.

  8. Well the install went flawlessly, as did the update to 3.00101. Everything is working great except the maps/GPS. It seems to think I'm heading the wrong way. Luke I'm driving north but the red arrow is pointing south. It also tries to go down every side street I pass. Can anyone help me?

  9. Thanks for the quick reply. I have no idea what changed but I got it to load them. I put the exact same SD in and didn't reload the files onto it or anything and it worked this time. I swear I didn't change anything. Hmm...

  10. I've tried relentlessly with no success. I unzip the WINCEIMG.bin and the WINCEIMG.cks files to the top layer of a correctly formatted 8gb SD card. I can easily get into the menu with the option to choose Update WinCE with or without formatting by SD card. However it always says it cannot find the WINCEIMG.cks file. Any ideas?

And another thing I've noticed. I have to rush through this blue screen menu or else the unit goes dead until I hit the reset button. Is this how all units are? And I have a F-90BT.
