  1. Just installed it last night and put in my 60 gig hard drive upgrade and it seems to be working well so far. They charged me $200 and the repair ticket says they replaced the navi sensor housing. I believe it was the internal gps sensor that was the culprit here. They did nothing to my firmware. It was still vers 1.0 when I gotand went to the service screen. I would recommend over nighting it to them so you get your unit back the fastest. Mine took about two weeks but the problem appears fixed. I'll update you after my first week with it.

  2. I had the same problem and after trying updates, hard drive upgrades and etc, I ended up still frustrated. I sent it back to Pioneer and it should be here on Tuesday. I called Pioneer to see what repair was done and they said they had to replace the "sensor housing". I'm not sure exactly what that means but I assume it's tied to the navigation system freezing up the entire operating system on the unit. I'll let you know how things work out when I get the unit back. I think you may have the same problem because my unit exibited the exact same symptoms. Nothing would work except for the volume. It stayed stuck on the navigation warning screen. You can play a cd, but you can not change the tracks or anything. Just the hard volume buttons at the bottom of the unit. See, the freezing firmware fix only fixes the freezing at startup...not freezing during operation like what we both suffer from. I think yours is hardware related. Just my two cents.

  3. I need your help. I have an Avic Z1 but I having problems with my unit freezing during operation. Everytime this happens (which is about once a week), I'll be listening to XM radio then I'll need my navigation to search for an address. Then bam...my unit will be completely frozen. The only thing that works is the volume. I can reset it or restart it and it will loadup completely but the entire until will be frozen on the last screen that I was operating. The touchscreen will not work nor the hard buttons at the bottom (except volume). I don't ever get the freezing at "Start-up" that most people are complaining about. Pioneer sent me out the Z1 firmware update that is suppose to fix the problem. However, my unit will not take this update. It just says says something like cd inserted. It never updates.

    My questions:

Have you ever heard of this? And if you think it is firmware do you think buying a updated Z3 hard drive will fix my problem? I need a really quick answer to my problem before I send this unit back to Pioneer.

    Thanks,

  4. I have the same SIR-PNR1 unit on my mother's Avic N2. I was trying XM out because my friend would always say he thought XM was better than Sirius. Well, after 4 months I like Sirius better. I am considering puting the SIR-PNR1 unit into my Azic Z1. Are you using the Avic Z1 with the SIR-PNR1 and can you describe how this unit displays on your Avic Z1? Do you get a two line display (artist and song)? Do you get a one line display? If it is a one line, does it scroll to display the full text or is it stationary with some text cut off. Or maybe the SIR-PNR2 has what I'm looking for with full two line display (Artist and Song). I was told that the XM unit does it.

    Thanks In Advance,

  5. Well after some testing I have the Echo issue and according to my callers its pretty bad. They all say that they can hear a clear echo after every word. I have a samsung T-809 and tried paring the phone with the voice volume all the way down but it was no help. I havent tried the update but according to everyone it should already be part of my Z-1 since it was manufactured in OCT. I have the Z1 call volume three bars away from the max, any lower then that and I cant hear the callers. I've also tried different MIC placements but that was no help. Does anyone else have anything I could try to get rid of this terrible echo?

    Iversonbiatch,

I also have an Oct -06 Unit that had the bluetooth update already present when I tried to update so I didn't have to use the cd. I did a level 3 reset to erase the existing phone and paired my phone again with the "listening" volume at its lowest setting. This along with proper mic placement, this help me tremendously. I have the Treo 650 and have not had 1 complaint since I reset and repaired. I also have ALL my speakers playing at at loud volume with no echo. The key is the "listening volume" when you initially pair the phone. I hope this helps.

  6. I have a Cingular Treo 650. I haven't had any success making phone calls from within the Z1's address book. I can dial from my phone with no problem. I can transfer contacts via bluetooth easily.

Questions: Is this unit supposed to be able to dial directly from the head unit via address book or only from the phone. Has anybody has any success with this and which phones.

  7. I have a problem. When I got my Z1 installed, the installers for some reason installed the "Universal XM Adapter" by TERK. The charged me $69.95 for the receiver box and $59.95 for the tuner. I am pissed! If I have an Avic Z1, why would they not install the GEX-P920XM? Best buy sells this unit for $100.

They charged me $130 for a old "universal xm adapter" which doesn't give me my full display (Channel, Artist, Song Name). It also doesn't give me Channel Logos. I plan on taking my car back tomorrow to have them upgrade my XM adapter to the GEX-P920XM. I don't expect to pay labor neither.

    QUESTIONS:

When I go with the GEX-P920XM, will my channel logos come up automatically once it receives the activation signal? To switch my XM serial number on my account, do I call XM or can I do this online so that I can activate my new unit? How well does the song/artist memory function work?

Sorry to be so long-winded, but I can't believe that they did this.

  8. I just installed my 2 Wire Bypass and it's a awesome! The installers had it initially wired it the "proper" way and it sucked bad (locks). I rewired it myself following Duccatiboy's directions. :D I hated having to pull over and press my parking break everytime.

    BLUETOOTH UPDATE:

I did a level 3 reset (to clear out phone) first then I just tried to update and my Avic Z1 and the unit said that this update is already installed. So I then lowered my Treo 650 listening volume and repaired phone. Sounds great. I guess it is safe to assume that the Oct-06 units have already been updated coming from the factory. I hope this info is helpful.

  9. I just got my Avic Z1 installed last night and of course I love it. I have a Oct 06 unit and I did have one person complain about Echo, so will try the cd tonight. The installers refused to ground my system so I could bypass it (the usual company liability speech) so I will install the update cd tonight and try to use Ducatiboy's bypass on Sat. Is this what is recommended? Update first, then rewire for bypass?

    Thanks In Advance!

  10. That's a good idea! Maybe someone would be willing to give it a try. Pioneer should just come out with one (noise cancellation) and make everybody happy. Are you sure it's suggested to have audio output on the LEFT speaker which is on the same side the microphone is? I'm just curious because I get my Avic Z1 with BT installed tmrw morning.

  11. I just had the Z1 installed in my H2: Bluetooth, XMradio, XMnavTraffic, Backup Camera. Did not know that there was a bluetooth problem. Everything works perfect including bluetooth with my Samsung BlackJack.

Also, they did a bypass that was software based, everything is bypassed but all wires are installed per installation manual.

Ahopp, that's interesting! I didn't know that there was a software based bypass. Please explain this new revelation. I'm sure Duccatiboy would enjoy hearing this.

  12. Thanks, ducatiboy! You gave a straight forward answer as always! I'm scheduled for my install on Wed. I'm going to use your bypass as well. Hopefully the installer doesn't give me a hard time. I have a Cingular 650 and will try your recommendations first before fooling with upgrade disk. Hopefully, I won't need it. :D

  13. Absolutely, howarmat! I have a headache from reading some many posts. There seems to be so much off topic chit chat and bickering in this thread that I still don't have a true understanding whether or not the bluetooth upgrade is recommended or not.

So I will ask the question another way.

Is it recommended that I utilize the bluetooth upgrade disk to fix the echo problem or should I just try to use the one speaker method? The rep in the nagivation department at Pioneer act as if he didn't know there was a known problem. :x

  14. ducatiboy,

I'm scheduled to have my new Avic Z1 installed on Wednesday. I'm very excited. I'm going with HU, bluetooth, Ipod, and haven't decide whether XM or Sirius. However, I will install one or the other for Sat radio. I 'm going with your after 07/06 (2 ground) bypass since I have Oct 2006 unit. Once I have verified that my unit is fully working and bypass has overridden the lockouts, should I update my unit with the bluetooth update disk? I've read from postings that this update is "questionable". I'm excited about any ipod speed or echo improvements that might be available.

    What do you recommend?
