  1. When I was performing my update, all was well until the MSN update screen. I hit the "settings" (or something) on the MSN screen, and all I got was a message that read "Connecting." It never stopped, and eventually I just stopped trying to upgrade it.

Anyone else have this problem? Can I redo the update and just hit the MSN update, or do I have to update the entire 3.0? My MSN direct subscription was expired when I did this - could this be the reason?

My subscription was expired as well, but I didn't have any problems. Try putting the second SD Card in after it's all booted up, and then hit status, it should update it.

How long did your install take?

    Little less then an hour.

JasonH,Would you recommend installing version 2.006 before I install version 3?

I had 2.006 since it came out on mine, but I don't see any reason why you would have to have it first. You could technically go from 1.0 to 3.0 without issue.

Jason, now that I've done the 3.0 upgrade, do I need to go through the 45-50 min process again of updating? Or can I just go to the MSN update? Thanks.

  3. For all the people complaining about early F series users being guinea pigs......It's the price you get for being an early adopter. History has shown that it's never a good idea to buy a new piece of technology as soon as it comes out. There is always a price to be paid for lack of patience.

Remember the first generation iPhone users who immediately bought the iPhone the day it came out, only for it to be rendered almost obsolete less than a year later? Same concept. You are free to purchase new technology the minute it's released....just don't complain about bugs when you do. It's the simple have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too analogy.

I think the $120 price is justified......$60 even more so. If you are completely happy with your unit and the maps, then don't buy the upgrade. If you are not happy (my maps kind of suck - in NYC, it has absolutely no idea what to do around the Lincoln Tunnel), then buy it. Simple.

  4. You can't just drop random code into a ui. Did you comment out your original clock? Otherwise you'll have 2 clocks. Do you have a "ui_housenumbers" in your navmap8x4.ui?

You'd be better off to just change the font size of your original clock if that is all you are trying to accomplish. Do not unzip the data.zip. Download 7zip and use it to open, not extract the data.zip. Navigate to the navmap8x4.ui. Right click it and hit "edit." Make your changes and close notepad. Click save when asked and then hit update when asked.

CMH, is there a way to change the color of the clock? I cannot see the bright green at all times. I remember you posting a color pallette website - will that work if I open up the data.zip file, change the color, and paste over the stock data.zip? If so, what was that website? Many thanks.

  5. Of course they're not going to tell you that, for the same reason that Verizon won't tell you about upcoming phones and Apple about upcoming iPods, etc.

They want you to buy one NOW, not when the 3.0 update comes out. If you know they will soon be releasing a fix that makes a product better, and all subsequent products in the line will have this fix, why would you buy one now? You'd wait. They don't like consumers waiting to buy their stuff.

The unit stay the same, it's just the firmware that go from 2.0 to 3.0. I will not wait to buy until the unit have the 3.0 firmware. Everyone can do the update of his unit when the new firm is out. BTW i told Pioneer support that i have already the F-700BT. So they have no reason to telling me not the truth i think :?

I understand from your point of view, but I'm just surmising as to what Pioneer is thinking. They don't absolutely know that you have the 700, even if you told them (lies!) and they may be unsure that if they say something new is coming out, you may shop around and find something better/more to your liking.

I'm sure it's a combination of both this and what the next poster said - the reps don't know the full specs and would rather say nothing than get a minute detail incorrect.

I just got off the phone with Pioneer BeNeLux. They told me there will be a paid map update in July. This in response to a complaint I send about getting maps from 2007 on my F900BT from 2009.

I ask Pioneer BeNeLux (Europe) by mail if they know anything about the firmwareupdate to 3.0

They told me they know nothing about it at the moment :(

I don't understand this when i read this forum :(

  7. Posted some new versions of the AIOs to the FTP.

    Also created a BigClock-NoMSN version.

If you want a BigClock AIO, just DL the normal AIO then grab a BigClock-Auto of your choice.

Run the Full auto-installer and then the BigClock only one.

CMH, this data zip just changes the clock, right? Nothing else (besides the Hybrid TTS)?

  8. CMH, have you added the newest data.zip and Samanta TTS mod to the AIO? Last I read, you were going for a test drive with her and would post soon. Thanks.

    Mike

Sheesh! Can't a guy take a day off for Easter!

I took my long drive yesterday and decided that no matter how long I work on Samantha, I'm not going to be happy with her. I now have 2 versions: The one included in the AIO that is hybrid TTS and actual samples, and the one in SamTTS-Auto that is pure TTS with my latest rule changes. The sampled voice is more natural by far, but the pure TTS sounds more consistent. Install the AIO. If you don't like it, grab SamTTS-Auto and try it.

Uploading now. As always.. Be patient and give them 30 minutes before you try to DL them.

    Easter? What's Easter?

Not pushing...thanks for all your hard work, helping out the poor schmucks like me.

  9. CMH, I'm a little hesitant to use your entire newbie file (even though I am one), because it seems to modify many things (I don't really care about schemes/colors/etc.) Can I juse download your data.zip file, put it onto an SD card with the testmode files, and overwrite my data.zip on the avic (F90BT)? Or does everything go hand in hand, and will I mess up some of the fuctions if I do that? Thanks.

    Mike

Just install the AIO. Schemes are installed but you still have to choose them or they just sit there. If you don't like the Guga menu theme, I posted earlier how to delete it.

OK, thanks. And to revert back to the old way, all I do is replace the data.zip, image.res, and sys.txt files, right?

  11. If it works for you, then it doesn't really matter if it's being replaced. I'm sure Pioneer is taking all of the negative vibes on the current units, switching around some coding and what not, putting out a killer unit.....and selling it for $2K.

Pioneer will continue to provide service for this unit, even if it's discontinued. Let's face it - all electronics you buy will eventually be discontinued, right? And when they are, it's a perfect time to buy. F90bt's can be had for under $600 now....why wouldn't you take that deal?

Unless you need to be an early adopter and feel like you are getting the best deal by paying more, I see no reason why this isn't actually good news for the consumer.

  12. I currently have the Kenwood DNX-5120, and am thinking of switching to the Pioneer. The Kenwood's navigation is superb, but the rest of the A/V interface and options is somewhat subpar. Determine what your needs are. If you are primarily interested in the GPS, go with the Kenwood. If you are interested in all of the extra features, go with the Pioneer.

  13. I've already been to the place that was mentioned - Stereo Station on Route 17 in Rochelle Park. They were/are terrific.

I'm just wondering if it's worth it to switch to the F90bt from the Kenwood DNX-5120. As I wrote, the nav is great but the iPod interface is incredibly simple. I'm wondering if the switch is a good idea, since I've found that I'm using the nav less than I thought and using the other functions more. I'm not that interested in the six million mods that are on this website, either!

  14. Maybe on that it should be like 150.... because it might only take like an hour or so.... do you have the dash kit, antenna, adapter etc... ???? what car are you installing into?

How does everyone like their F-series? Are you happy with it? I got the Kenwood DNX-5120 installed, but I'm not thrilled with the iPod interface (the navigation, however, is second to none). I'm trying to figure if I should go with the f90bt instead. Any thoughts or problems with yours? Thanks.

  15. well it really depends on what their doing are they just installing the unit or are they doing anything else e.i. bypass, steering wheel controls, hd radio, xm etc....

For me it would just be the bypass, iPod adapter, and unit....no steering wheel controls or anything like that....

    Guess it was free!!!!

  17. yea i was thinking about that, they do look pretty smooth.... 25$ isnt too much, maybe next pay day

ehds, I think that it looks great. The dash kit fits perfectly. Looks like they did a great job.

I was thinking about doing it at Best Buy, but for the $230 they quoted me, I feel like that's a bit high. Anyone know the general going rate for these installs?

  18. that's a chance you have to accept.

Otherwise pay to have it done. polus the installer has insurance

I'll still have to decide.....I also had the (mis)fortune of buying the car with the fiancee, so I'm sure she'll give me grief about doing it myself and potentially harming the car. The sh*t we do for love.

  19. Crawl before you walk-- BINGO.

I know tearing a dash apart is hard.. Just take it slow, dont pry anything that shouldn't be pryed and put down some cloth or something to protect the dash and moldings.

other then that look around for photos and other people that have the same car or call the dealer

Dealers are usually no help! Most likely, the dealer will say "Anything you do will void the warranty, blah blah blah...." Actually, he's already tried to tell me this, although I'm fairly certain he has no freaking clue what he's talking about.
