  1. Have the 2011 Navteq maps but having some problems upgrading from my old 2009 maps. With the 2009 maps there was one file per country map, a basemap and 3 buildings files and a dem file

    \building\uk.xxx.3dl

    \building\uk.xxx.3dc

    \building\uk.xxx.petrol.3dl

    \map\Basemap_83_2009.09_090930_NIMA_VMAP0.fbl

    \map\unitedkingdom_xxx.fbl

    \dem\westerneurope.dem

With the 2011 map download there are three files per country with different extensions in the /map folder but no updated basemap, no building files and no dem file

    United Kingdom_R3_NQ_2011.Q4_120217.fbl

    United Kingdom_R3_NQ_2011.Q4_120217.fda

    United Kingdom_R3_NQ_2011.Q4_120217.ftr

    Few questions

    • Why are there three map files in 2011?
    • Can I use the 2009 basemap or do I not need one with the 2011 maps?
    • Can I use the 2009 dem file or do I not need one with the 2011 maps?
    • Can I use the 2009 building files or do I not need one with the 2011 maps?

  2. I must have done something wrong, when I reboot it gets stuck with the system startup message over the main menu. Can go into AV and Contacts, when I try to go into NAV then I get the warning message about it being an aid blah blah (still with startup message over) and then get stuck there :(

Downloading files again and going to try it from scratch. Just wonder if something I had on previously is preventing it from working? Was using v3.0x fw with modded ezrider and 2009 Navteq maps.

When the copy finished, I get a green rectangle in the middle of the screen and it becomes unresponsive and so I have to power of to restart. Also get a warning about file encryption when unzipping the downloaded file.

    What I am doing:

    1. Download file from link in post 1
    2. Unzip to desktop and copy in European Navteq map files to map_nt folder
    3. Copy contents of the folder to SD card (i.e. route of SD has the content of the zip)
    4. Insert SD card and boot
    5. Select install EU option for F900
    6. Get warning about not enough space
    7. Delete old map files
    8. Reboot and select install EU option for F900 again
    9. Hit OK to start copying
    10. When copy finishes (I see a green rectangle and nothing seems to be doing anything anymore)
    11. Hit reset
    12. Loads and shows system startup message that never goes away!

  3. Also keen to see the latest views on these as my F900 has been sat in the garage for a year or so, think it has maps 2.x and fw 3.x at the moment.

Looks like maps 3.x and fw 4.x are the latest official updates, just need to get the newer maps so I can get the newer FW.

Am assuming from what has been said that FW4.x works with tomtom 2011 maps?

  4. I only just noticed that Pioneer had brought out a new firmware, v3.020200, in early December. However this firmware is for AVIC-F700BT and AVIC-F900BT which are updated with CNSD-100FM. My understanding is that the CNSD thing is the legit v3 update?

Anyone know if the 3.020200 update works on F900BTs that are running the other v3 firmware? Think I am on 3.0001 or something like that (a very early v3).

  5. I bought a second F900 for my Golf last week on eBay and it is missing the 4 flush mount 5mm x 6mm screws which fix the two side mounts to the HU and also the 8 smaller screws that fix the side mounts into the main cage. Can anyone help? Anyone not using theres and would be prepared to sell them to me?

Pioneer said to contact SEME in the UK for spare parts, so dave a call in with them as they don't list them, but they are trying to source replacements.

  6. I found the option people mention (as above), however this and a number of other buttons on that menu page are greyed out for me so I can't turn of the mute function! Think it maybe something to do with the firmware version? Mine is running 2.0009 (I think, not the latest official uk release, the one before). Going to try upgrading it to a hacked 3.0 and see if that resolves it. Hope so as I just bought a second unit for my other car!

if there are options that are greyed out, sounds like the parking brake is not set or the unit is not bypassed

Parking brake wire is earthed, so this shouldn't be an issue.

I also tried turning off the audio source, still greyed out!

  7. I found the option people mention (as above), however this and a number of other buttons on that menu page are greyed out for me so I can't turn of the mute function! 8. OK, so I have a 3.0 'update' from the site, a 'My Flash Device' folder with all the subfolders and files, I am assuming this already includes a hacked ezrider file and some maps of some sort as it is 1.6gb.

Should it not have the required files, then to upgrade the maps I need to get:

    v3.0 hacked ezrider.exe file

    generic global license file

    map files

and I just copy these into the appropriate locations in the folder structure I have in the 'my flash device' folder, then copy these to the SD card and follow the update instructions in the other threads?

If it is all installed with the correct ezrider and the license is already there, then can I just go into testmode and copy the files from an SD card direct to the map folder, or does it have to be as part of a full install?

Is there anyway to tell what map files are in an installation, i.e. what brand and what date?

  9. Looks like I should be looking for newer maps before hacks, what EU maps do people prefer? Are there any that are head and shoulders above the rest or are they much of a muchness?

May be a stupid question, but do the different maps all appear the same, just some are more accurate than others or do the map files dictate how the map is presented on the screen as well as the actual road data etc.

  10. There is a lot of terminology used in a lot of these threads which I don't understand! Is there a glossary or reference section!?

From the few posts I have read, I am assuming that the F900 uses the Igo navigation software (like Kenwood uses Garmin), it just integrates the navigation into the pioneer gui, which runs on windows CE?

Version 2.0 of the Pioneer Software uses Igo 8.0 and version 3.0 uses igo 8.3?

So upgrading the system involves using 'testmode' to access wince and then upgrading windows, the pioneer firmware and the iGo software (included in the firmware).

Assuming I have the basics correct there, what is ezrider?

What type of maps are needed, are they called igo 8.3 maps and then dated i.e. 2009.6 being june '09?

    What is APL2?

Once I have the required firmware and iGo kernel running, with the 'latest' maps, then I can look to download peoples hacks which are basically tweaks to the pioneer gui overlaid on the iGo navigation software?

  11. Is it possible to just lower the volume on the music when nav directions are being given as opposed to muting completely?

Yes, and it is even described in the manual...

Although I admit I didn't look through the manual I could not find an option in the setup screens for it. Option to change the voice volume and to mute guidance, but my unit insists on muting all other audio when giving directions, drive the wife potty!

  12. New to the site and just realised there is a 3.0 update! (Well joined ages ago, but not been back!).

So much jargon to try to get my head round, anyone out there be kind enough to give me a quick guide as to how to get 3.0 on my UK unit? Not as bothered by updated maps as I am by speeding up the system!

Happy to buy 3.0 but don't think it is available in the uk?

  13. I have had my F900 installed in my car (over here in the UK) for about 6 months or so. Removed it a week ago and it had been sitting in the dining room on the table until yesterday when I fitted it into our new car.

All of a sudden I now have a pink / purple tint on some sections of the screen. It seems to be where icons / text use whte to shade, nstead of being white these are pink. Some plain white sections are true white, i.e. when booting the text on the logo is white, so when displaying a picture it is fine. When on the navigation screen however the text showing distance / time etc. is pink. On the ipod screen the play / pause icons are pink.

I have just updated to v2 of the pioneer firmware and that hasn't fixed the problem :( Have emailed pioneer to ask them, but think it may need to be swapped out under warranty :(
