  1. Just in case anybody was curious about this I used a spare ocz vertex series 1 ssd in an enclosure and it works without the need for the y cable. Speed I have to say is the same with my 5400 rpm hdd though, but if you want to put the ssd in your glove box or something without the need for a y cable it works very good.

  2. Time for my two cents. I have been running a hd in my car with f900 for over a year I think and when I had just gotten my hu I was thinking of buying an ipod. This was mainly because the Ipod user interface seemed so much user friendly. that was untill I found the f#$#$ ipod still needs a damn cable which transfers the music in analogue. Boy was I mad. So what I am trying to say is that if you make your hd like an ipod it might get into the same problem. The unit thinks its an actual ipod and would not actually play the music unless the analogue cable was conected. I mean com on how f*#@$# cheap could you be to mess up with a digital signal. I mean if pioneer wanted me to buy a different type of usb cable for it I would have gladly bought it but a non digital cable, I think not.

You know what though I never thought of that idea my self so what I am gonna do is convert a bunch of albums, put em on my 8 gig flash drive and see if the performance differs.I can tell you one thing though, the speed of the unit reading ur music files directly related to how many mp3s or other formats you have on a hd or flash drive.

  3. lol that is like wow. So it really works eh. I made post about this but it was totally software where I thought that it was win ce's fault that the cold boot dosnt work. Still though this seems just as good. I will give this a try. I have never heard of these relays before. I am gonna look into them. Thanks for the post.

  4. I was just looking around microsofts technet and found a few articles about windows ce 5.0 which stated problems with usb devices when restarting.

There were some other ones about slow downs with mass storage device, but these articles here I think are very appropriate to this problem. There are refrences to updates which I did not find, but what is troubling me about these updates is this sentence here "After you apply this software update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform." and I am guessing that this might be problematic since it could screw up the avic kiosk or something.

  5. Hi I was just looking around in the net for some sort of a registry solution to this problem. Since it seems to be to a timing issue I was wondering if there is something that can be done in the registry of win ce. Maybe a time delay for the recognition of usb devices like 3 to 5 sec after the device has booted. Would be nice to know if that is possible from people with programming experience.

    thanks

  6. true lol. But the cold start problem has nothing to do with lack of power. I am happy for people that have theirs cold boot, but unfortunatly many of us who have that problem and respond to this forum have everything properly setup with the usb Y-cable and a usb cigerrit lighter power source. I think getting the avic os to format the hd was a nice touch but I doubt it might help in the problems that we currently have such as cold boot or larger then 40 gig and wont be recognized. Just wondering can you play anything on the ce like music and stuff or is it really bear bone.

  7. I have a 2005 alitma se-r and it too has the bose system with the amp. I really hate that hissing noise but I am gussing the best solution is to get another amp to replace u r bose one. This is of course what my installer told me and I am not 100 percent on it but it my work for u even with the new noise problem that you have.

  8. Oh yah I got the squealer under control. And also I realized that plugged in from the start the system does recognize the hard drive it just takes time. I found out that the damn usb car lighter thing I use is a bit loose and that is why it dosnt recognize from the start up. Also the cluster size is 32 kb Since fat32formatter always formats to that cluster size. A flash drive sure does sound convenient. Who knows if I get problems pat 40 gigs I might just switch to a 64 gig one or maybe a 1.8 hard drive. On another note I have been look at the linux os that seems to be running on the f-series and was wondering what space limits that might have. Just a thought though I am not running to get my unit bricked or anything any time soon.

  9. really so it uses basically radio stations to work. Mines works sometimes but the signal seems so crap. I live in toronto and the map shows my area to be fully dark green, yet the signal bar in msn hardly show it to be halfway. My radio works just fine I park the car underground and I still get stereo fm signal their. Latly though the status window just says connecting for the past two three days and I dont know why. It seems like a cool idea but if its soooo bugggy whats the point of paying for it.

  10. dont mean to highjack but how is sound quality since your pretty much using anologue signal instead of a digital one? I never had good sound with those so I went with a hard drive with my f900.

  11. ok so finally I got my y cable and tried it with my f900. first things first recognition of the drive takes like 2 or 3 mints. Also it is not recognized if it was plugged in as the unit starts. I have to unplug my drive and then plug it back in and after like a mint or mint and a half the drive is recognized. My drive as I stated earlier is a seagate 250 gig freeagent go black. I have about 23 gigs of mp3s on it and they work pretty well. The only problem I have is that I have to unplug and replug my drive every time the unit starts. Other then that everything else is fine and I can live with the late drive recognition.
