  1. So ignoring the fact that SlingPlayer only runs on wi-fi, assuming i was in Wi-Fi range, will the Sling Player display an image to my Pioneer unit? I can listen to pandora, I can watch videos from the iPod, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to view videos from Mobile Sling Player. I know that there's not video of Pandora when that's up which would be cause for concern.

Just curious if anyone has any idea if this would work, and if not, what type of "workarounds" are there to bypass this...

    Thanks.

  2. Little bit of a problem. I have an iPhone 3gs running on 3.0.1. I have the AVIC F90BT with the 2.0 firmware upgrade.

If I plug an iPod into my system using the USB/Ipod cable that came with my unit, the Avic Detects the iPod, changes the USB logo in the AV selector to "iPod" and then allows me to select it and change songs from the touch screen on my iPod.

However, when I plug my iPhone 3Gs into this port, I get the message:

    10633_141708056879_595896879_2507071_4871399_n.jpg

I've used both the stock Pioneer cable along with the stock Apple cable that came along with my ipod. I've herad that's a regular message and to just ignore it, but unfortunately, the USB logo doesn't change to iPod so I have no idea what to do. If I'm listening to Pandora, it says "dock application" at the bottom and the sound stops playing, however, I'm unable to play the sound through my speakers.

    Any suggestions?

  4. Whatever device you want your AVIC to recognize, you hook up to the AVIC's USB cable. The box with USB/12v outlets is for powering devices only. No data passes through it. That's why you use a USB splitter cable.

Oh I see. In was confused on the setup. The USB box is only powered through the car. It doesn't actually connect to the AVIC unit.

For arguments sake, what would happen if I got a USB splittler like this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Portable-Premium- ... 878&sr=1-2

Hooked it directly up to the AVIC unit, and then plugged in my IPOD and a memory stick with songs. Which one would it read?

  5. It's tough to come online to ask for advice on something like this. Some people have had amazing experience with the unit, others not so much.

I just purchased an AVIC-F90bt online last week, and the other day and had it professionally installed. When I got home to play with it, the touchscreen was barely working. I've already removed it and I'm sending it back to get a new one.

So far, my experience has been sub par, but I'm still hopeful. If you're into modding, this system is great. After the very simple hardware mod of bypassing the e-brake by switching the jumper settings on the mute wire and grounding the mute wire and e-brake wire, the software mods are endless.

As for waiting for the new series, if it exists, that's your call. For instance, if you're looking to get a new car right now, are you going to wait for the 2010 version, or take the 2009? If you are willing to pay a premium for the "newest" then go for it, but likely there won't be much of a difference. I may be wrong, but that's typically the way it goes.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do. Just remember, it's your decision. Don't let any one person sway you one way or another. Do your research and be confident before making the purchase.

  6. So if you use the USB for one of those charger units that has some USB and 12V outlets, and then you have your IPOD hooked up to the charger box, what will the AVIC recognize as the USB?

Will you be able to use the AVIC IPOD interface anymore since you're actually using the USB port to power up a charger unit? And then if you plug your hard drive into that unit as well and have two things hooked up, which one will it detect?

  7. That' s absolute BS. There is no way they would know about the hardwire bypass, unless you sent your harness in with it...

Yeah, I figured. Probably trying to just get me to not send it in so they don't have to deal with it.

I'm gonna give the 2.0 reinstall a go and see how it goes. I'll post results here.

If it doesn't work, off to Pioneer. I'm assuming I have to eat the shipping costs?

  8. I hope it wasn't a refurb. It said new and it sure as hell looked brand new. Every wire in it's on special compartment all sealed up with the proper clips holding the wires together and everything. Looked brand new to me.

The guy at Pioneer somehow made it seem like they'd be able to detect it if I had tried to wire bypass. He kept saying that the unit could "figure out" if you tried to bypass the e-brake and it would start to malfunction on purpose. His stats were "95% of the time, this problem is caused by a bypass. 5% of the time it's a faulty unit".

    What a load of crap.

Anyway, before I do this uninstall tomorrow (geez, wish me luck), I still wanna know if anyone would advise me to try and reinstall the 2.0 firmware onto the system.

    Thanks.

  9. Looks like a defective unit.

I wouldn't mess around with it and send it to pioneer for service. As long as you don't send in the wiring harness, no will know you bypassed it.

That seems like the most reasonable advice. Just wasn't sure if anyone experienced anything similar and decided to tinker with the unit and mighta come up with a fix with just a reinstall of the firmware or something.

I was at work and had my car off for about 4-5 hours. I decided to see how it was running when I turned it on after the long rest. It was great. The first few clicks were very effective. And as time went by, clicks became less and less effective, the unit reacted slower and slower until it pretty much stopped about 2-3 minutes in.

I decided to give Test Mode a go. No good. I booted up, it did it's copying, but I couldn't hit the x in the upper right hand corner to get out of the first screen.

I think my only other solution is to reinstall 2.0 onto the unit. Should I just send the unit back, or give this a shot first?

  10. I'm going to consolidate all of my posts onto this thread.

First, here is the youtube video of me attempting to use my unit. I was extremely frusturated while making this, so if it's a lot of rambling and doesn't make sense, attribute it to that:

I bought the unit of amazon.com about a week and a half ago, 2.0 firmware upgrade. It appeared to be unused and unopened. Everything in original packaging. I bought all of the installation gear off of an assortment of sites, hondaautomive.com, scosche, etc. When I finally got the unit I did the wire harness bypass, adjusting the yellow mute wire from row one slot one to row two slot four. I then brought the car in for installation today and instructed the installer to ground the e-brake and the mute wire. He says he did both.

When I first picked up the car today, I noticed things were running a little slow, but I attributed that to everything I had heard about this just being a slow unit. I got home and started to tinker with things. My first problem was that my ipod wasn't being recognized. After a reboot, it was finally recognized. I then tried to switch songs and use the touchscreen to navigate my ipod. It was very slow and barely worked. I rebooted the unit once again and put in a DVD. Worked perfect. Screen was quick and very responsive. I then went into the maps and things were slow. Tried the IPod again, very slow. A few times I found myself hitting the menu key to get back to the homepage and re navigating myself from there.

The more I tried to use the unit the worse it got. Right now? Close to nothing. I click something and it doesn't do anything. Occasionally it'll accept my click and then take 20 seconds to do something. I held down the big button to get the voice commands going. That took another 10-15 seconds to pop up. The robotic voice was slow and choppy. I did a few soft resets, and also disconnected the battery of my car. I also called pioneer. They said 1 yr warranty, and to send it in. If they find out I did an ebrake bypass, it'll be $200 charge. If not, I'm good to go. Anyway for them to figure out that I actually did that as long as I didn't send them the wire harness?

At this point I'm just looking for any suggestions on a type of "reinstallation" or "reformat" of the unit in order to start from scratch and hopefully resolve this. If not, I'm sure the unit is bust and I'm gonna have to figure out how to remove it and then ship it in.

Any suggestions or advice with this situation would be greatly appreciated. Do I give up on it now and send it in, or is there anything I should try before packing it up and shipping to Pioneer.

    Thanks.

P.S. This is what I want my unit to work like :D

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUyydndB ... re=related

  11. So here's the deal. It's only gotten worse. Everything is unbearably slow at this point. The unit boots up in about 2 minutes. I then really can't click on anything. When i push the map button, in about 5-10 seconds I get the warning screen and then I have to hit okay 4-5 times. it'll finally accept it and then take about another 20 seconds to show the map screen. At that point if I push down the big button for voice commands, that takes about 10-15 seconds to come up. The robotic voice is super choppy and crappy sounding.

So at this point, is there any time of "reformat" or "reinstallation" of the software I can do before I remove the unit and send it back? Also, should I be concerned about the threat I received of a $200 charge if they notice I did an eBrake bypass? And is there a chance that either the changing of the mute wire or the two grounded wires was done wrong, causing this problem?

Thanks in advance for any help.

  12. Video of unit not working:

(probably takes a few minutes to become available)

Contacted Pioneer. They immediately asked if I did an ebrake bypass which I denied of course. They said the installer probably tried to do one (95% of the time they claim that's the problem, the other 5% is faulty unit).

I did do the moving of the mute wire from row 1 slot 1 to row 2 slot 4.

They said I can send it in but if they detect I did an ebrake bypass, it'll be $200 for a repair. If not, free of charge.

So I just need to make sure I send them everything besides the harness, correct? Assuming this is the problem. I'm disconnecting the battery now to just test that out but I'm assuming I'm still going to have some sort of problems since it was never fully functional (hell of a lot worse now than a few hours ago though).
