  1. Well, I talked to XM to make sure everything is working right, and I get all the channel data ie song titles and everything, but get NO audio on the 130 with the p10xmt :(

I'm not sure if its my headunit that is the problem or the xm receiver itself...any suggestions?

Has anyone actually tried the p10xmt with the 130 or did you guys just use it with the 120 assuming it will work on 130?

  2. Thanks for the info.

One other thing thought, I'm not getting any audio from the gex-p10xmt which I used before. Reports on here say it worked with the z110 and 120s. Do I need to order a new 920?

  3. Hey guys,

I just updated my z3 to the new z130, but am having trouble finding certain options in the menus (everything has been moved around).

    - how do I fix the map so it won't spin? (north always UP)

    - preset re-naming? Is there a way? (instead of just P1 etc)

    - custom menu on the left side (remove unused sources from left menu on audio screen) possible?

    - AHA radio only seems to be usable if controlled by the iphone...cant be controlled by the deck? (audio comes through though)

    - is there a way to view XM signal stregth?

  4. thanks for the info and part numbers guys...Ill make a decision soon.

What about making a wired remote? I saw a wiring diagram around somewhere that showed the resistance values for each feature but I can't seem to remember where I saw it, any ideas?

  5. I know the wired remotes work via resistance, but does that mean many wired remotes will work with our units? All the sony ones should, but as far as I know there isnt any with a voice control button...maybe you could open up one of the remotes and change a resistor to map the feature to a specific button?

  6. I should also add that the Z-series has an IR sensor on them...so you can use all kinds of remotes such as the steering wheel remote or even another one for the back seat to control movies.

The new units (don't ask me why - and correct me if I'm wrong) doesn't even come with IR built in forcing you to buy more stuff for something that should be built in!

So take that into consideration too if you will want remotes :)

  7. Well folks, after much much research I had a lot of problems trying to find a microphone/equipment that has its own active (rather than passive) noise cancellation.

I finally came across a product that comes with many adapters including one for the avic.

Now I haven't received mine yet, but I think Ill give it a try.

First off, its a product of theboom.com, well known for their phone headsets with noise cancellation that actually supposed to work.

They have released a product (claiming the mics are used in Apache helicopters...suuuure)and its called the Ume Cobra mic.

This, potentially anyways could be what we are looking for...but the price tag isnt cheap at around 150.

Anyways, this is the product... http://www.theboom.com/v/products/theboom-ume-cobra-microphone.html

    What do you guys think?

  8. anyone know if there is a remote, wired or wireless that works with the new unit?

My car doesnt have built in controls on the steering wheel and I'd like to come up with something...even aftermarket would be fine.

    Suggestions?

  9. Yes, they are completely different series of units. The 1,2,3 are six year old technology. Don't even bother with them.

I'm not sure why you would say such a thing...the Z3 units are amazing...I have one in one of my cars right now and it has features that none of the new ones have...

The Z series can rip a CD right to the harddrive for custom libraries and playback later without the CDs. Of course, if you don't use CDs anymore then that may not be a feature you would want. Movie playback is great on them as well.

Granted, I am purchasing a z130 for another car but I wouldn't pass up some of the great deals out there on the Z series!

  10. Yeah, that is very annoying. Sometimes. like when adding gasoline, I pull up to the pump and want to leave the audio playing (especially while streaming over BT). So I shut-down the engine and leave the key in the Accessory position. But when I restart the engine - the AVIC reboots. A very annoying side-effect of this is that it seems to wipe-out the iPod VR catalog. It has to do a full rebuild afterwards - takes several minutes instead of a few seconds like a reboot from a power-off condition.

I expect the poster's mod would be very vehicle specific. I had thought of doing something similar, but I wasn't sure if the power drop causing the reboot was from the Red (switched) or Yellow (constant +12V) feeds. I also wasn't sure it it was just caused by a voltage drop while cranking the starter, or if it was an intentional safety feature to keep the voltage drop from damaging accessories. The Z1x00 manual says the power source required is 10.8 - 15.1V DC, and I wouldn't be supprised if the car's battery dropped lower than 10.8 due to the high amperage draw when the starter cranks.

Since the posters mod just ensures that the red circuit is continuous when the ignition is on, it seems that on his vehicle at least, the voltage stays within range.

The vehicle specific trick is to find the correct circuit (that is, a circuit that is energized when the ignition is on but off when it is not). Modern cars often have this stuff computer controlled and the correct circuit might be harder to access/locate. On some engine it might be easy to just use the circuit that feeds the coil. But that might be hard to locate on some cars with solid state ignition.

So, poster, please give us more detail or suggestions on the best place to tap.

Well said! Exactly what I was thinking :)

I wonder if some sort of capacitor would do the trick? I guess it depends how long you are cranking the car as well...

  11. XM unit will work (XM Nav Traffic will not), BT is not needed since it's built into the 120, Remotes will not work.

I have both 120 and z3, and BT sounds as bad on both...

You answered everything perfectly. Thanks for the info :)

  12. I found it quite annoying that the system would reboot every time I needed to start my truck.

All you need to do is add a fused 12 volt wire from your "True Ignition" circuit from you ignition harness WITH a diode, right into the red switched wire on the head unit. Have the band of the diode going towards the head unit - VELLA !!

The diode blocks the 12 volts from feeding back into the Ignitoin circuit, when you have your key in the Accessory posistion. You should be able to find them at Radio Shack of maybe a car audio shop will give you one!

True Igniton = 12 volts does not drop out during the start cycle.

What problem were you having and what were you trying to fix exactly?

Were you on accessory power and then started the truck...it reboots?

Or is it rebooting when you turn your truck off and leave the key in the accessory position?

    Or both?

I'm just trying to get a better feel for what you were trying to accomplish...and if it's the same for every car, because my car stock doesn't shut the radio off when I turn my car off, making this a pointless mod for me (and maybe others out there)

  13. Hey Guys,

Im looking to pick up a z130 in the next few days as an upgrade to my avic-z3.

I have lots of stuff for my Z3, including the XM unit, bluetooth addon, and 2 different remotes (one that straps onto the steering wheel etc).

Does anyone know if the remotes will work with the new unit?

Also...how is the echo canceling on the new units vs the old avics? So far, I havent been too impressed with the bluetooth calling...

  14. I'm one of the unlucky people that havent been able to send my contacts over to the z3 since I have an iphone.

I have upgraded the maps and have my hdd unlocked, im just wondering if there is a way I can drop some VCF files onto the user directory of the harddrive and add my massive list of contacts that way?

Is anyone familiar with the format of the address book in the z3 and if this would be possible?

  15. to the people that are saying that it's not being seeded enough and speeds are slow, I just wanted to note that I was able to download the complete torrent in less than 50 minutes.

Average speed was 2200+KB/sec....so there are definately some good seeders out there. Perhaps you guys are being throttled by your ISP?

I own an unmanaged dedicated server and I was able to get some pretty good speeds.

    Thanks for seeding guys!

  16. I have the 8320 tmobile blackberry curve..

How does this work with the device? I was told that with some phones you have to answer the call from the phone- some from the unit.. Just want to see how this phone works... With a Z series.

like most blackberries it works fine. check the list in the first post or use the search function

On a side note, not sure if anyone is keeping the first post up to date, but I cannot believe the iphone isn't listed on there!

So here it is for you iphone users:

iPhone 3GS works perfect for phone and calling.

Address book transfer is not possible because apple didn't include the proper bluetooth profiles on the iphone :(

So have fun entering the addresses one at a time! lol :)

  17. Anyone know if this is possible?

My iphone doesn't support it, and I really have a lot of new numbers to transfer into my Avic.

I'm basically trying to find an alternate method of getting my addresses on there.

I suppose I could use an old bluetooth telephone, but that means syncing back and forth with my pc->iphone->outlook->avic and that is a lot of steps.

It would be great if I could just sync my phone with my laptop, and then beam those directly over.

Anyone know what files the Avic is accepting? Are they vcards? I'm curious.

    Thanks so much guys!
