  1. don't laugh but i have 4 large caps on my setup for power stability and they also filter the audio to a certian extent. one nice side effect is if you don't set a drain on them your stereo will play for 2 minutes after you shut the car off  then you go to make a phone call and you hear someone saying "hello" from your car bc the bluetooth is still synced

Sounds like you have something miss wired if there is still current on acc when the car is off.

  2. I tried the same myself and had no joy, So looked around and found someone mentioning the USB connector on the poineer units can not quite power a hard drive!!!! There is a way around it which does work but its a work around.

I bought from a local supermarket a car accessory (cigarette lighter) to USB that provides the 5V at 500mA to power the drive, then some drives come with a Y cable. One of the USB connectors on this cable is just for power only which plugs into the adaptor mentionbed above the other (power and USB data) plugs into the the Pioneer unit.

I tried this and got it working, the only problem I have now is the drive needs to be unplugged and plugged back in upon powering the head unit up as its not recognised on boot up. Someone has also mentioned upon putting a delay on timer into the power circuit so that the head unit has had chance to part boot before the drive is powered preventing these issues.

Hope you have the same success as me!

Hey, check my thread at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=29578

  3. Hey,

So i have made a USB power booster for my Avic, i was wondering if anyone else would be interested in this. If i can get a few people who are willing to buy one i will invest in making a batch and selling them.

This allows you to run a USB hard drive on the avic, pretty much an inline power booster that will allow you to run USB HDDs up to 1amp vs 0.5 amps the avic provides, just tap it into the +12v accessory power lead and it will power on and off with the radio.

Let me know, and if i can get at least 5 customers i will go and order the parts in bulk. Would $15 sound fair to your for such a device?
