  1. Now I guess that's one way of telling me to F off. You may be right, this may not be the right forum for me but since I only registered on March 30th, 2010 and posted around 13 times and haven't had the benefit of your years of forum experience or 3000+ posts, I'll keep poking around.

  2. Everything you need to know is on this forum so you should not need to ask questions that have been answered a million times over the last two years.

Sorry if I offended you, the easiest thing to do is ignore my posts.

I wonder if the emulator still works.

Please let me know if you figure out how to make it work.

I tried it, but always fail.

So far I can't get it to work, the emulator screen comes up but when I try to open the Main or Phone with the File Explorer it creates an error, when I seleck the Navi screen, it just sits there with "NaviMain" in the center of a blank winow. Still researching the process but not on this forum, too many snobs here that will jump right on a noob and say go search the forum.

  3. After much research I installed an X910BT in my truck but was not happy with the quality of the maps. I was used to portable units and handheld devices which had much better maps. I even returned the first one because I was sure it was defective! The second one had the same weak maps but after a few trips using the routing functions I decide to keep it although I had to use the male voice instead of the female which is horrible. I rather like the signs and highway markers that pop up so I tend to ignore the poor quality road displays. The Bluetooth, DVD and USB were big on my list as well.

I joined AVIC411 in the process (by the way, what does the 411 stand for if anything?) I’ve spent the last few weeks reading dozens of threads and posts to see what I could change on this thing to make it better. I used this forum and one dedicated to my truck to do the VSS, rear camera taps as well as the main bypass for parking brake. However, the thought of modding the X910 began to creep into my thoughts every time I drove the truck.

I’ve downloaded a crap load of files, copied a lot of pages, pictures and hints from the forum and need to make a decision as to which way to go for mods. I’ve read as much of DIAFTIA’s, NSEW’s IDT’s DPDURST’s and other referenced modifiers as I could, enough to make my head spin.

Here’s my main question: what kind of process is used to create these files and folders used for the modifications? I’m fairly PC proficient that I’m certain nobody is sitting there tapping away at the little screen on these AVIC’s with a stylus to change files and folders. What type of software (PC) and emulation is used to modify and test these files before actually loading then onto an AVIC unit for proofing? Can they be run on a PC thru some sort of WinCE emulator to actually “see” the results of a change to a file or folder?

I know curiosity killed the cat but I’ve had this affliction to try to find out how things work since I was a young lad of 5 who pried open his dad’s gold pocket watch with a pen knife to see how it worked. That was a lesson I’ll never forget! TIA

  4. I installed an X910BT about 2 weeks ago and was not pleased with the maps. I joined this forum to glean information about the unit and after a few days I returned it for another one and it appears the maps are the same quality so I guess it's the nature of the beast. This is my first "in dash" unit, all others were portable and had varying degrees of map quality - all of which were better than the Pioneer.

So, at the risk of getting flamed by forum snobs, I’m trying to find out if there is a single general reference source, be it here on the forum or in written format (book or electronic-i.e. “AVIC For Dummies”) that explains the functionality of systems such as the AVIC head units outlining the Windows interface, navigation, file setup, etc. I’m fairly computer savvy but find it hard as hell to compile a decent understanding of how these Nav-CD head units work by browsing this and other forums. I usually end up back where I started.

I want to modify how the maps look and have seen some interesting posts showing what others have done and link to their approach. However, I’m cautious enough to not want to “brick” the unit since it’s only a few weeks old. Terms like Ezrider, IGO8 and such are a different language for me. Searching out this forum is like pulling teeth, it’s not very noob friendly. So, with that said, is there a source of information available anywhere I could use?

  5. Well, after dealing with Pioneer "support" and an online electronics help site I guess I'm stuck with the crappy maps until I can figure out how to hack this thing and load in some different displays to repace or add to the Pioneer blue and red choices for map colors, neither of which seems much different from the other.

I guess I was spoiled by my Magellan units and my DeLorme PN40 hand held which both have better map displays than the X910BT. All other functions seem to work (slow) so I guess it's the nature of the beast.

  6. The map colors on my new x910 are washed out and grey/blue in appearance. The road/street lines are light in color against a light gray background not the greens yellows blues and reds I saw in all the advertisements and on Pioneers' web site. I bring up the NAVI color selections and it shows Pioneer blue or Pioneer red which are not that different from each other. Is there something I'm missing? I'm used to using Magellan or Garmin stand alone units which had vivid colors for the maps. There is nothing in the owner's manual that even refers to changing colors, of course the manual is in black and white so there isn't any color shown there either.

I did the "standard" bypasses for chaning navigation stuff while moving but I can't see where that would have any effect.

I tried everything to change the display, it must be part of the map package. Here's a photo of what it appears like. This really sucks.

Well, Pioneer support came back with a response to my query about the washed out display, they said: "Try resetting the unit, press the disc eject and reset button at the same time for about 15 seconds. Also, make sure the installer (me) did not connect the illumination wire wrong. It may be in night mode all the time, if connected wrong."

I followed the wiring diagram included with the unit and used one of the available cross connect cables (Metra) to wire it up. Maybe I'll pull the unit and cut the orange/white illumination wire to see what that does. I thought it was supposed to dim the control lights but that's not happening when I dim the dash lights. Still confused.
