  1. I just got this unit installed in my Magnum SRT8 and will work on getting video of it today or tomorrow...

Also silkjones ...I have a question....Did you get steering wheel controls to work? If so which PAC units did you need for the 300...I know our cars (LX's) are picky, so I need to know the right unit(s) to get?

Picky isn't the word. I went thru h*ll and high water just to get the unit to function properly. After all that I didn't even think about the steering wheel controls. I don't miss it too much so may just pass on that option.

  2. Check the D3 section...it's discussed at length there. I have the D3 and don't have any complaints. As far as the cartoon maps, I guess it depends on how close you zoom on the maps. I had to use it on a trip to Florida and it worked like a charm. Ipod is same speed as if you were listening to your ipod...bypass is simple...album art...no hdd but it does have the nav maps on an sd card and is easily upgradable. Kenwood did a great job and probably need to pay me for marketing because they really didn't push this great product they have. I haven't done the bluetooth yet so I can't comment on that.

  3. I know with my vehicle (05 Chrysler 300C), I had to turn all the volume, treble, and bass levels to zero before I disconnected the factory system before I installed the aftermarket system. I'm not sure what type of vehicle you have but that probably would have helped.

  4. that's pretty lame if the brand new D3 can't do street names that a $350 Garmin will do.

Not to flame you or anything but c'mon guys, ya'll have to be realistic. It's a give and take situation. For the money people are paying for the D3, you get a pretty good deal. You can't expect for this system to have everything for only $850....If you want all the bells and whistles you need to get a Z1, Z2, or the Kenwood DNX7100.

  5. Sorry fellas but I'm out of town now...I'll be back in later this week and will be able to post more pics and i'll try the video. The interface is very fluid and fast. I'm very satisfied with the unit at this point. The D3 looks nice but at this point I don't have a reason to change.

  6. Here are a few pics...I'll try to get more pics later...I need to drive around a little and see how well the nav works. ipod controls are just as fast as controlling a cd in the head unit. install was very fast and of course the kenwood bypass is very simple. maps can be upgraded by sd card. interface is pretty nice....let me know of any questions you may have and i'll check for you.

  7. Isn't there a sub-forum for "other navigation systems?"

I think I did see another forum for other navigation systems but the fact that there were members that posted in this area about this particular system is the reason I posted here. Just trying to help out other members.

  8. First I want to say that the D3 installs are looking real good. I took a gamble with the Kenwood unit so I'll see if it pays off. If it doesn't, I'll sell it and try the D3. I'm man enough to admit if I make a mistake. This is not an intent to start a flame war at all. I know some members were going back and forth with the Z1, D3, and the Kenwood 7100. From reading the manual, it almost appears that the 7100 was made to compare with the Z2. The only reason I was in the situation of choosing between the D3 and the 7100 is the price difference was only $250. I'm about to install in my 05 Chrysler 300C. Here are a few pre install pics.

  9. for those that comparing D3 and this DNX7100 unit, price difference is almost like 700 bucks, how can you compare them? consider D3 is less than half the price to kenwood unit with that many functions.

You make a good point with the MSRP difference on these units. The only reason I even compared them is because I caught a kenwood unit for $1199 so I decided to kick out the extra $250...for the differences in the unit, I think it'll be worth the $250. If I did not find the deal and it was the $700 difference, it would be the D3 without a doubt.

  10. This is what it says:

That's strange....I ordered one for my wife on the 4th and I got a notice saying that it's shipped.

  11. Well ABT should have an extra unit because I just cancelled my D3 order. I actually caught the glimpse of the kenwood dnx 7100 and I think I'll like that unit a lot better. I had to pay another $200 but I think it'll be worth it. The ipod GUI is really nice and it has Garmin maps that gives you street names. From what I understand, the ipod controls are full speed. It seems to be a really nice unit for $1199....I think the retail is around $1500.

  12. silkjones-

How'd you get the $900 from ABT? I just ordered from there as well - and canceled my crutchfield order.

My ABT price was $950; I'm curious how you beat them down another $50.

    Thanks,

    Brent

To be honest, I don't know how I got the price. I called earlier to see if they will beat CF and another guy told me no. I called back to see if they still had them in stock and the guy confirmed. I need a PAC C2R-CHY for my Chrysler 300C so I was asking if they had them and they didn't. I told him that I will call him back because I needed to check on the wiring harness and that's when he told me that he can sell me the D3 for $910. I'm learning you have to call these people a few times because another poster got electronic express to sell him a d3 for $849 and when I called the dude told me no very quick. I might call back again later to see if I get someone else!

  13. Just to let you guys know. Electronic Express has it for $848.47 and it's in stock. I just cancel my order from Crutchfield. I puchase the wiring Harness and the F150 Kit. There in Nashville, Tennessee and I'm in Atlanta, GA shipping should not take that long. This is just a heads up. :P

Wow...don't know who you talked to...I just called and the guy told me $999 and he would not match crutchfield. I ordered from ABT...it was $910 plus shipping...I got overnight shipping so it was $950....I ordered from a guy name Marlo...888-228-5800

  14. I don't think you can screw it up too bad even if your car is an 07. I would say try it...like the other poster said, you'll gain a lot of experience and on top of that you can save yourself some cheese. I'm going to download the manual and take a look at it and get an idea of what i'll have to do. If I pull this off I'll be real proud of myself.

  15. I was wondering if it would be very difficult to complete the install in an 05 Chrysler 300C. I've never tried a car radio install but I would like to learn how to start doing things myself. Would this be extremely hard for a first timer or is it basically plug and play with the exception of doing the harness?
