  1. I understand this is probably a very noob question and it may have been answered before, but I swear I searched and could not find the answer.

I use to frequent this site and be up to speed on all the updates and then life happened.  Been off the grid for a couple years and now I'm wondering how far I can update my current Z120BT?  I see there are Z150BH's now and just curious if anyone can tell me or direct me to a thread that would tell me...

    1. Can I update all the way to a Z150BH on the same headunit?

    2. If not, how far can I go?

    3. If so, do I need to do all the indivudual updates?  Or can I just go straight to the highest one?

yes, you can, from z120 to the most updated 2013 USA maps and bluetooth firmwares, if that's what you meant.

wondering why you didn't get the info from your researching, here's link

use: Instructions for Z110BT, Z120BT, and X920BT units.

    very easy to do so.

  2. to answer my own questions or maybe someone might find this helps a little:

I have tried so many NAVI apps since I got the iphone 4 hooked up to my unit.

now I am very happy with Navfree!!!

it's completely free to download, it let you pre-download the states' map to the iphone first so it supports offline map/navigation with voice guide!!

better yet, it even suppor with the touching screen control right directly on the unit!!

can also control/play the ipod music under while using the Navfree too!!

for online/data required navi, I just bought the $0.99 Motion X in case I need to see the traffic, I use it via my moto X tethering over iphone 4.

both waze & motion X work great but Navfree displays the map much clearly and better with much better control directly with unit's tocuh screen.

by the way, I am using moto X with tmobile $30 prepaid plan.

it has only 100 mins, but got unlimited text & 5 GB data, so I can tether to my iphone 4 for data using (like netflix, youtube or online GPS needed).

I am loving my car with this navi unit with my way of set up, very happy now :)-

    hope this helps someone ^^

  3. hello

I am using a no service iphone 4 hooking up with my z110 updated to z150 now.

neteflix, youtube and motion x GPS work really well when I swicth to app mode under ipod.

but since I am using my moto x phone as hot pot for the iphone 4, sometimes signal drops, moto x GPS doesn't perform very well.

I tried sygic but it doesn't show up under app mode, I also tried waze but somehow the screen just turned all blue and it doesn't work at all.

anyone is using any good offline navigation/gps app with iphone can recommand them to me please?

    thank you so much!

  4. This process requires a certain skill set and level of proficiency - I don't have the time to walk you through every keypress. I will help you understand the general process. You're going to have to dig-out the details in existing threads. Beware - there are lots of ways to screw-up. Always avoid doing something you can't undo. Make working backups of any files you need to edit/delete. I make a /BACKUP folder on my SD and move original copies into there (before deleting) just incase I screw something up.

    1. Learn how to copy, paste and delete files using Testmode. There is a Youtube vid that covers many of the nuances - but the Testmode user interface is a POS. Be aware that on the video he incorrectly calls it HackMode - don't install hackmode - it's a disaster waiting to happen.   To run Testmode, put the file Testmode.key in the root of an SD and insert it into  the AVIC. You need to select "File Maintenence". It uses hard buttons to scroll, and select various operations. It is very error - prone so be careful.

    2. Now you need to get a copy of NAVI.exe on your PC. You can get it off the HU (in /USER/PRGn/APL) or from the 5.x files you downloaded to do the upgrade. Just to be safe, copy the file somewhere to edit - best not to touch the original.

    3. You need a hex editor on your PC. I used (free) HxD. Learn how to use it - practice on something first. Then use it to patch the hex bytes into NAVI.exe as pionara (v5.1) or I (v5.0) describe elsewhere. The offest is the location in the file to begin the patch - replacing the 4 hex numbers already there.

    4. Copy your patched NAVI.exe to the SD where you have TestMode.key and insert in the HU - should boot you directly into Testmode.

    5. The HU has two sets of application files in /USER (PRG0 and PRG1). If a file called PRG.FLG is present, you need to delete and replace NAVI.exe in /USER/PRG1/APL. Otherwise use /USER/PRG0/APL.

    6. Delete NAVI.exe from the directory above. It is best to make a copy of it somewhere on the SD in a different directory than your hacked one.  Note: Testmode will not overwrite a file of the same name.

    7. Now copy your hacked NAVI.exe to the HU folder from #5 above. It can take a while.

8 When finished, eject the SD and reboot the HU.

Good luck. Maybe someone with more time will write a full-blown checklist.

UPDATE: I just tried applying pionara's 5.1 patch and managed to bork it.  Got stuck in a reboot loop. Good thing I had a backup :)

thank you so much, I finially figured it out and works smoothly ^^

  6. hi RonS

my HU is z110 updated to z140 and just updated the 2013 map, it's now 5.0

I read all those posts about successful remove no nag screen ones but I dont know how to edit the # from those posts.

    can you please guide me?

thank you so much and I hope I am not bothering by sending you this message.

have a nice day and thank you.

  7. thank you so much misterwoofwoof!

    but sorry for asking

my unit is z110 upgraded to z140,

which one should i do this update?

    Instructions for Z110BT, Z120BT, and X920BT units.

or Instructions for Z130BT, Z140BT, and X930BT units??

    thanks again

  8. I tried this yesterday and this is exactly what I have to do to get my Nexus 5 to work with the Pandora source.  No idea why and it's certainly a pain in the ass, but at least I know how to get it to work now.  Thanks.

well, glad my problem became a fix for you ^^

    you can try this too:

after your nexus paired with your unit, go to your nexus bluetooth setting, then click on the connected, you'll see profile has phone audio and media audio both checked.

uncheck phone audio first, only let it do media audio, after that, go back and check phone audio.

after this, everytime my moto x and unit paired, all i have to do, is click on the built-in pandora and it will play, no more those extra steps any more.

still not as smooth as my S3 as when it paired, it plays automatically, but much better.

    hope this helps.

  9. I actually have a similar problem if RonS you could give me some advise? Thanks in advance!!

i was using S3, paried with Z110 update to CNSD 310FM=140 i assumed, all worked find, with built in pandora just a click away and it will bring on the phone's pandora accessory and played just fine.

I just switched to Moto X Tmobile version, which is actually a unlocked version (if any of these matter!), it paired with unit fine, phone audio/contact and streaming all music apps via bluetooth audio are all fine too.

however, when I click on the built in pandora, it will show the same as please check with your smart phone when it's safe!

what i found out to bring built in pandora to work with my moto x is:

I'll have to wait until my phone's BT connected with unit first, then go to setting, go to bluetooth setting, click on the connection, then click on audio only, it will show a window saying it will lost the phone connection, i just click on ok.

then go back to built in pandora, then it will bring it to work, then the phone will show successfully connected again.

now I don't know if this is due to unit's blutooth is too outdated for moto x or it's just a bug from moto x, or if any one can have soultion for me please?

it did work just fine for a few days without any of extra works though but then just back to this, it just drive me nuts.

  10. I have a z110 updated to z140

everything works fine until I replaced my car's battery yesterday.

my car's 2010 nissan altima 2.5s coupe if that matters.

when I clicked on the built in Pandora, usually there will be disconnect and connect

but it's not there any more. i

means when I clicked on the built in Pandora on the unit, it will just show please check on your phone when it's lawyful to do so.

but it used to at least try to connect it to my phone's pandora first even it's failed.

I have tried factory reset serveral times but still can't bring built in pandora back.

    bluetooth pandora works still thoguh.

but I was more enjoying with built in pandora as it will show album arts on the units.

    can some one please help??

    thank you so much!

  11. hello guys

    I has a original z110, it's upgraded to z140 now. i have a samsung s3 android smart phone.

just to make sure, beside via bluetooth I can control my phone's pandora and face booking and appradio, what else can be done to use more of my s3 android phone on the head unit?

do i need any cable? can i use head unit to control my s3 android phone's app such as map or waze?

this might be asked before but there's no cleared answers, please help, really apperciate it, thank you guys!

  12. Sorry, I think I was wrong about appmode. I was thinking AppRadio. I thought I saw an app on Play Store that needed to be installed on the Android device for the Z140's Advanced App Mode to work. Now I can't find it. So I should butt-out and let someone who has it working explain it.

thanks Rons. I think you were referring to AppRadio, too but just couldn't make sure.

s3 with updated 110-140 via pandora and aha are working good. even though aha is really uselss,

that's why I wanted to know if there's any way can do like iphone app that can do app navi on the unit itself.

hope others can give better advises about this.

    thank you again!!

  13. I already uninstalled appmode, but I think you can search for compatible apps from the appmode screen on the phone. The icons appear to link back to Play Store. There are about a dozen. I never did seen anything about what the apps cost - so I assumed the one I downloaded (Waze) was free. Oddly, Play Store always states "free" when it applies - but this time it didn't.

    Hi Rons

I am sorry, but I think I do not really understand what you mean.

    1. so what's the key word I should search when I am in play store for those apps?? I downloaded WAZE and it's good and still free.

    2. I went in my car, checked my APP connection is set under bluetooth under av setting. but how do I start the app mode in my car unit and be able to use the waze via unit?

on the screen, the left side scroll icons I have so far are pandora, aha, ipod, sd, bluetooth audio, am/fm and off, but I dont see APP for me to do bluetooth via my S3 cell phone, so where do I start the BT app over my phone?

    thank you so much

  14. Download it from Play Store. Search for Appmode. I never did get it to do anything useful. Not sure why - but I never wanted it anyway. Seems like it only works with some apps.

Pandora and AHA seem to work over BT just using the AV Source buttons - and don't require AppMode support.

Just adding: I don't have an S3 - just an HTC HD2 hacked to run ICS.

    Hi Rons

I just searched appmode in my play store, but I can't find the appmode apps. so means no luck for me?

HTC HD2 uses the same andriod, so the play store should be the same I assumed!!

  15. hello guys:

I just got my new phone S3 and updated my original z110 is now haced to z140.

would I be able to connect my s3 with the unit to use app like iphone can?

and where can I find the app mode?? I still couldn't find it.

hope someone can be kindly advise me on this, thank you!

  16. You mean lower in pitch or volume? You can set the guidance volume level separately - if it isn't already maxed out.

    hi Rons

yes, can set the guide voice level, but I was just referring at the same level of volume guide voice settting, US english is lower than US TTS. ^^

  17. hi Rons:

I got all mine updates through this forum. so yes, I did get it through sheka's uploaded.

and I went with original test mode method and went smoothly at first try and never had any issue so far besides that US TTS won't tell you your destination is on the right or left side any more but then under the US English, it does tell you on right or left (I just tried when on my way home from work), and also, US english's voice voulume is lower than TTS's voice!!

hope this helps?? though you help us more than amazingly!!! thank you so much!!!
