  1. First thing you do is follow the bypass instructions!

Putting your address is kind of easy. All the letters are alphbetical, not QWERTY which does take some getting used to.

Once you put an address in, you can save it for future use or just go to it once and that's it.

Accuracy? Most of the time it's off by 30 feet. Once in a while it's off by 3 feet. Sometimes she's off by 50 yards then corrects by itself after you drive a lil bit.

Reroute? It's kind of slow, not immediate (I hate to admit this, but Garmin on my Sprint PCS phone was quicker on the reroute) but it will not tell you to go back to the routh. it will recalculate the route then re-advise you to your original destination. UNLESS you are on a long road and passed the turn, then it will tell you to turn around.

    Pros: Nice F'ing radio

Pro: DVD MP3, not really a pro because almost everybody has an ipod

    Pro: DIVX DVD

Cons: Only one cd/dvd slot. D2 had two.

Cons: Price compared to D2, D2, portable Garmin, etc.

Con: Does NOT say street name, just right turn ahead.

Pro: Shows you street name on screen with city you are in.

    Pro: Nice F'ing radio

Con: Somewhat complicated menu (not for navigation, that is easy, tweaks are hard to learn)

    Pro: Did I mention it's a nice F'ing radio?

  2. Google is your friend.

    Torrents are your friend.

Bit Comet is also your friend.

Any program you need is a google, torrent away.

What program would you need? Other then a normal burning prog.

If you go to Nero or download.com you can find a free trial that will work. With a little searching (or polite asking) you could get the password for your nero and ....... Seek & ye shall find.

  3. Went back to installer, explained to him that radio doesn't "dim" when the lights come on and he told me that people hate it when that happens, so he never does it and never asks. Took him 5 minutes, badabing, now when the lights come on the radio dims.

    This site kicks ass.

  4. Dear Fat Tony,

Did you eat a lot of paint chips when you were a kid?

    Regards,

    Matt

I dont understand this. Why paint chips?

OK, when most of us were kids (people old enough to drive cars and afford thousand dollar radios) the paint had lead in it, unlike today. If you ate paint chips as a child, you'd be very slow & stupid.

So, coocho. Have you ever tried paint chips as a child?

  5. Dear Fat Tony,

Did you eat a lot of paint chips when you were a kid?

    Regards,

    Matt

    Yeah. Why? (Tommy Boy)

Why did I ask for money? To make the auction look legit, so ebay would not take it off. I had to make this auction look 100% legit. I tried it last night and I said "DO NOT PAY ME HERE IS THE INFO FOR FREE!" And this morning the auction was flagged and cancelled. This way, there is no violation. No way to kill the auction. It looks legitmate, yet the info is right there in your face.

Sorry for using the photo. I should have asked. But since it was given here freely, I figured I'd use a larger forum to spread the word about this site. Sorry if I F'd up.

  6. CHemi: That's the point bro! I already gave them the information. I already provided the link to the bypass. Who is going to buy it? Who is going to pay for it? I already passed out the information freely!

JasonH: I am not selling it! I am giving it away. Since it is against ebay policy to give crap away for free or to tell them not to pay for the auction, I created this auction to make it look legit so they will not cancel the auction as a violation of it's terms.

Guys, look at the auction! I am providing a link to the bypass right there on the screen. I am providing a link to this forum for the hacks and mods right there in the auction. Nobody is going to buy it, unless they are truely mentally disturbed.

I'm not trying to make money off of this auction. I am providing links to the site. I am providing the information & photo right there in the auction so nobody would purchase it.

  7. DO NOT BAN ME! Read the auction, then you'll see that I already gave away the information with links and a photo.

I was going to say DO NOT PAY ME, but that will violate ebays terms and they will cancell the auction. So, this way, it gets to stay up for 10 days.

If something like this will get me banned, then please let me know and I will cancell the auction.

    Ebay item: 170088879653

AGAIN! If this will get me banned, then just let me know and the auction is cancelled. It's not about money it's about getting the information to people who need it.

  8. I downloaded the user manual for the D3 from the link on this site (thank you) and I remember reading someplace where the unit is supposed to dim and the map is supposed to change color when the headlights are on.

    Is this true?

My unit does not do that. At night the display is BLINDINGLY bright. Anybody know where my installer F'd up? So I can explain to him how to wire the unit correctly.

Everything else seems to work, vechicle dynamics, the speedo on the map, etc. But the brightness would be very cool and would save me a minute (and even an accident) if it did it automatically.

  9. A grand for a radio? Fine, it's something that will get major use.

$30.00 for an ipod cable? No worries, it's going to be used often.

One fifty or more for a back up cam? That will only be used in the tightest of parking spaces or to show off with my friends? Gimmie the $10.00 cam off ebay (if it will work).

So, will the cheapy crappy $10 cam off of ebay work as a rear view? Don't need precision, don't need clear pic, just need to see if my F250 is going to hit the fancy 3 series parked behind me.

  10. I live in Los Angeles, as anyone from here knows there are 90 different ways to get to any one destination. Not nearly as bad as NYC, but worse then any other city I've lived in (Boston, Miami, Chicago, Vegas, etc.)

It's dead on. I've only had it for 48 hours, but it's incredibly precise with it's directions. I've did 4 trips with it (multiple stops, I knew exactly where I was going each time) and I can't say that it gave me the wrong directions or route. It even showed me a few short cuts.

The "left turn ahead" could be a little faster in my opinion. It would be nice if the thousand dollar head unit would SAY THE STREET NAME like the $5.00 version of Garmin on the telephone, but .... I'm happy.

  11. This is my first navi system (other then Garmin that is on my cell phone) and from what I see, this thing is great.

A complaint? Sure, it doesn't say the street name. It says right turn in 3 10ths of a mile, but will not say the name of the street. Don't know if there is a fix for this in the settings. Not a deal breaker, but it would be nice. Considering the cell phone Garmin did it.

XM radio I purchased was a refurb, and the unit is ON! All the stations, free of charge! WOOO HOOO! No nav traffic. I was more then willing to pay $17 per month for the service and the nav traffic, but not willing to pay $17 for just the navtraffic (considering the unit is on). Not unless they shut off the unit.

Another complaint? Sure, a program scan would be nice. You have 18 presets for FM and XM, it would be kinda cool if you could hit one button and have the thousand dollar head unit scan your presets like the cheapy $50.00 radios you buy on the flea market.

Navigation is almost flawless. Sometimes it's off by about 50 yards, most of the time it's off by 30 feet. The phone number search actually works!

Could not get the SWI-PC thingy to work with my Ford for the steering wheel controls. That sucks. The installer tried for over one hour and could not get it working. I've waited my entire life for a car to have steering wheel controls for the radio (I thought of this when I was 10 years old) and now that..... meh. Not that serious. I'll burn an extra calorie or two leaning over to hit the knob.

    Bypass worked flawlessly! Thank you!

Now, I just need to find a cheap Ipod cable, BT set and a really cheap rear view cam. Will one of those $10.00 cams off of ebay work with this unit?

  12. Sorry if this has been asked before, but.....

My D3 is going to be here today (I am waiting at the window with my laptop for the UPS truck) and the only thing that I don't like is the single DVD/CD slot.

Now, I do have an Ipod, so it's not like I'm going to be using CDs all the time, but I had a thought.

Is it possible to load the DVD map software onto a HD, then have it connect to the D3 via BlueTooth?

I also have an Ipod question: Is the CD-I200 the best way to hook it up? Can I watch vids from my Ipod onto the D3 with that cable? Or should I go with that other box (forgot the model number).

Love the site. I ordered (and paid for a D2) the day I found out about this site, then when I found out about the D3 I cancelled and made my order. If you google image a D3, you'll see it posts up some flakey portable unit.

Also, all the information I was considering purchasing from ebay, I found right here. FREE!

Amazing what you can find if YOU GOOGLE first.

  13. Since I am out close to a grand for the D3, I think I'll pass on that single din CD/MP3.

Just a thought, very immoral, but that's the type of guy I am. I've noticed that Crutchfield offers a 30 day money back guarantee on anything they sell. I've also noticed that Dell and every other company that does this will give you a partial refund to keep you happy with their merchandise.

Example? I just spend 3K on a laptop from Dell. I called them 10 days after it arrived and said I didn't like it and I am going with a Gateway because it was better for the money I spend. They offered me $50 bucks back and I then asked for two hundred. Ten minutes later they refunded 175 back to my card to "help keep me a satisfied customer".

If I have any complaints on the d3, I'll let you know what they do for me.
