  1. Hello everyone. I know these are old forums but I’m hoping to get some help. I am building a 98 Ford Ranger mini truck and have a semi current 5200 and somewhere I hope I still have packed away a AVIC, I can’t remember which one it is… I think it’s a Z3 with an upgraded hard drive. When last used the screen was starting to get hard to use toward the edges I think and I seem to remember that the DVD/CD was having some issues. Is it possible to get the screen and DVD replaced, hard drive updated and made to be a good enough unit for today. I will need to decide if it’s worth it or not. Is there updates that make it closer to current capabilities with iPhone hands free, really want CarPlay if it can work on it. Update the hard drive and software.
I would like to access the vehicle gauge sensors to have GPS display. We swapped the 2.5L 4 cylinder for a 302 5.0L V8 and gauges are having a problem communicating with the new computer. Having it GPS on the AVIC would solve not having a working speedo.
Thank you for any info anyone can provide.

  2. Hey Garrett.

I haven't been on here for a long time and the last time I was I believe you helped me with getting a new bigger HDD with new maps and then I sent you my original drive. I hope I'm remembering correctly that that was you.

That was in 2010 and I was hoping that there are newer maps now. I have a lot of trouble using my AVIC nav system anymore because it seems 75% of the addresses I look for come up with "This address does not exist. Do you want to continue?" It's so frustrating to enter everything in then get that and end up using my phone instead. My real problem is I don't have a PC, my house is completely MAC networked. I'm assuming that from what I've skimmed through this thread that everything has to be done on a PC.

What can you tell me on availability of the newest maps, HDD size and loading the new maps and how I can update?

Also, my old AVIC, ( I want to say D3) ?? Is in my wife's truck. I'd get the model # off of it but it's at home in Minnesota and we're in Kansas helping her parents out. It works for what she needs, basics only, however the touch screen is failing and it is very difficult to push buttons on the right side of the screen. Anything that is right against the edge of the screen you can't push because it essentially has shifted the touch surface over 1/2 inch. Is there a inexpensive fix? I really don't want to send it to pioneer, they'll charge an arm and a leg to replace it.

It's great to see how big this site has grown over the years and thanks for all you do with it.

  3. Garrett,

Thank you so much for the 60gb HDD. It totally rocks. It fixed all my freezing issues and is got awesome software update features. This is a great service you offer us. Thank you again. I also have a Z1 in my wife's truck. It has a few issues with randomly not turning on at all and sometimes it won't turn off when you shut off the key.

Since it doesn't have a HDD like the Z2 is there an update disk with 2010 update and maps that might resolve her issues also? If so how much is the disk for the Z1?

    Thanks,
