  1. When I first installed the camera in my VW, I wired the camera directly to the reverse lights And grounded the to the chassis. The picture had "noise" lots of lines and sometimes it would not turn on. So I checked and noticed the reverse lights didn't turn on with 12v... It had about 8~9v. The solution to my problem was to add a relay, with the reverse lights as trigger and the output from the relay would throw a full 12v.

The wire behind the head unit is there only to change to the camera screen. Make sure your camera has a solid 12v source and you ground the camera to the chassis or a solid/clean ground.

Also, I was reading on the manual from my camera and it said if you leave the camera on for too long, it would show "rain" or artifacts. For this reason my camera only turns on when reverse lights are on.

If I press the camera button and leave it blue while the car is on drive or park, all I get is a intermittent black screen that comes on and off randomly. So that's why I leave it grey.

I also installed my cameras with a wireless transmitter for reverse cameras that I bought on eBay for $19. This way I didn't have to run the composite wire all the way back making my installation super easy.

  2. Ok, here's the thing:

Before i updated the firmware and got the AV adapter, i was using the 30 pin to lightning adapter and it was working perfect, no bluetooth connection, so this means all touchscreen+audio+video running on the cable.

Then updated and swapped to lighting av + usb lighting over original pioneer cable... I honestly thought the the hdmi part was carrying the audio+video and the usb part was doing the software talk(touch input) + charging.

  3. turn polarity to battery or ground, then on main screen just hit the blue camera and leave it grey. then shift reverse to check if camera works. the blue camera button is supposed to turn on the camera whenever you would like(in case you wired this way), so you want to leave it grey, this way whenever the radio sees the reverse signal it will switch automatically to the camera.

  4. Hi all, thanks for your hard work coding and searching for this project to be 100%.

Just wanted to tell you that i just updated my AR2 to 8.3.0 + Lighting AV + USB Lightning(at old 30 pin cable) with my iPhone 5 6.1.2 jailbroken, with AppRadio App 2.0.1

I understand the AR Extension only works with the AppRadio APP 1.8.2 so i haven't installed the old version, mainly just installed the HDMI and etc and wanted to see what was working.

I don't remember if anybody stated their results with this setup, so here it is:

    - Bluetooth MUST be paired in order for the Apps button and Pandora

    - I don't know why I'm able to mirror my iphone screen on the AR. (no touch supported, i know, even the extension doesn't support yet)

    - Pandora is super laggy

    This is all for now.

  5. Well I went and purchased app radio 2 last night to replace my old app radio 1. I installed it and did all the updates for the iPhone 5 and used all the proper apple cables. Except for a regular hdmi (which works fine). I think. The pioneer cable that you have to buy might include an hdmi and a new usb to pioneer deck connector minus the old 30 pin connector. So if anyone is thinking of making the jump, I'd say do it. So far driving around this morning I find app radio 2 much faster then the previous one. The waze GPS traffic app works but doesn't fit on the screen. I assume an update soon will fix that. I will post more later.

I just installed the Waze app via app radio recommended apps and after it installed, the screen was all squeezed. Then i turned off the ignition and unplugged and plugged back the lightning adapter and it works perfect.

I am looking at purchasing an APPRADIO 2, since BestBuy and Crutchfield have them on sale right now.  I did hava couple of quick questions on the new firmware and the iPhone 5.

I have both a 5 and a 4s (one is personal, the other is a work phone).  Am I able to add a USB splitter to the back of the deck and run both sets of cables so I can use either or, or will I only be able to use one or the other with the current firmware?

Also, both of my devices are jailbroken.  Does appradio extentions still work?

Lastly, does the TR7 relay still work as well?

    TIA!!!   :)

The appradio will only talk to one iphone at a time.

  6. I just installed a camera today with my app radio.

Connect camera 12v+ to 12+ reverse light and the camera GROUND- wire to a ground source. It could be the - "negative" of the reverse light, or, you could make yourself a ground, by scraping the paint on the body of the car and check clearance then drill a small screw into the area you scraped and put the ground- wire there.

Then at the app radio, go to settings, polarity, select Positive or negative, doesn't matter, this will enable the camera. Then at the home screen at the app radio, tap the camera button on the top right corner and it will be blue. If you connected the appradio to the correct REVERSE signal wire of the car, then every time you shift reverse it will automatically bring the camera, and the reverse light at the camera will turn the camera on, and you will have a picture.

I used this, instead of running wires. It is a wireless video kit. I bought it on ebay:
