Funny...I did exactly what HiFiSi suggested, and found the answer in the 3rd or 4th post from the top...

...come to mind and just confirmed after checking my DVD library...

 

16:9 is 1.78:1, so even 1.85:1 will have black bars at the top and bottom...although overscan on CRT displays typically will take care of this...17:9 is actually almost exactly 1.85:1...so films filmed in this aspect ratio should fit the D3 screen almost perfectly if encoded correctly to maintain this aspect ratio...

 

Typically, more epic/cinematic films will take the 2.35:1 or 2.4:1 aspect ratio...like The Matrix, LOTR trilogy, Star Wars, etc...

Not sure if this would work, but I assume the day/night mode works off the illumination wire in the harness...would imagine it gets +12 when the lights are on (map is dark), and nothing when lights are off (map is light)...

 

If you always want the map to be dark, my guess would be to to connect the illumination wire of the D3 to the +12volt switched wire...then the D3 would think your lights were always on when the D3 is on.

 

Maybe someone can confirm this would work, or confirm that it won't...I won't pretend that I'm an expert at this...just an educated guess based on how I understand it after installing my D3 a few weeks ago...

I don't seem to have the same harness as everyone else here on the board. I saw that someone else had mentioned that their installer said their harness looked different. Mine doesn't have the extra mute line you all are talking about and it doesn't have an empty pin location. I ordered my d3 from crutchfield. Is it possible that they swapped the harness out with their own?

there are two harnesses...one has all the power/speaker wires/parking brake/vss/etc...black plug which connects to the D3...

 

The other has a white plug...and has the RCAs and mute wire on it...that is the one where you need to move the mute wire to the pin above it...

 

When I initially got my D3, I was looking for the mute on the black harness...i rechecked the flash tutorial, and the first pic in this thread, and it steered me back on track...

The Bypass does not involve the reverse wire...only the mute wire and parking brake...like everyone else has said...read the 2nd post...it's all there very clearly...

ya know what...you're right...if I wuz in the streetz...and I did see gunz blazin...I wouldn't be STUPID enuff to step in the middle...i'd keep it real and watch the morons off each other...while I drove away using the self installed D3's nav system...hell, I might even change my route while driving, since I know my bypass was done correctly since I did it myself and followed the instructions I found here...

 

However, since all I saw was some 2 bit piece of shit on a message forum spouting off about how everyone here don't know shit, I thought I would chime in...

He really needs to get back to doing his extensive research so that he can PURCHASE a MODULE to bypass his D3 (if and when he receives that D3, since he's had it shipped from what appears to be a fine Pioneer authorized dealer...)

 

Us schmucks can continue to read this forum, do the bypass ourselves for FREE (although I did waste almost a minute of my time doing it)...and also do the installation ourselves, again for free, after so many helpful people replied to our posts requesting information on location of reverse wires/etc...and now with the knowledge gained from installing myself, perhaps I can help someone else and give back to the forum community...

First attempt at replacing any type of head unit in a car...

 

Following the detailed instructions on this site, I was able to implement the bypass first try...as simple as explained...

 

Thanks to everyone on this site who offer their knowledge and make things so simple for us newbs...

 

Now if I can just figure out how to correctly wire my SWI-PS into the Suzuki Grand Vitara factory harness...something about attaching white wire from interface into the Pin 19/purple wire of the factory harnes...only Pin 19 wire isn't purple...and from the CF harness that was sent to me...Pin 19 is supposedly for DIMMER...Pin 12 was purple...but splicing into that does not work...gonna putz around and see if I can figure it out...

I ordered my on Monday and just got a email said my order is shipped and my avic was on the email they sent me.But the guy said it was back ordered

 

I think that email that Crutchfield sends is misleading...I ordered by D3 last Friday (16th), and received a similar email earlier this week with Subject:

Your Crutchfield order has shipped

In the email, it listed the D3...got excited for a second, but then went out to Crutchfield.com, logged into my account, and checked my order...there, it showed the D3 as still on Backorder (which it still shows as today...)

 

So, still waitin...

Thanks for the correction (it does have ABS)...I was just reading another thread and read that as well...obviously new to this...

 

So I gather I need to check for 2 wires running to any wheel? Try one and see if it works...if not, try the other...right?

Thanks cntrylvr79 for the info...that will save me probably hours trying to figure out where the vss wire is...

 

so from what i've read thus far, vss is not REQUIRED but can improve some aspects of navigation (when you lose GPS/when you stop/start/etc)...and the wheel speed sensors may or may not be worth the additional cost...

 

Since this is my first nav system, I guess I'll just hold off on that for now...if I'm unhappy with the nav performance, I can look into installing the wheel speed sensor...

Does anyone know the info/location for reverse wire and vss wire in a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara...
