  1. jzsax, Can you clarify? Does the head unit give an error reading the European disc? is there a code or some other

text on the screen that may help identify the malfunction? I have other branded GPS systems designed and sold in the

US working fine in Europe so I am understandably curious.

ok.... here is what i have done so far.... i have used the link above trying to get the US AVID d3 to work with the Euro NAVI Discs...

The Navi Disc Versions i have are the US and Euro CNDV_90MT

i have also tried changing some of the string values within the file DVI.DAT which contains the market version for the discs... Other files remained stock, unchanged. I Changed the value from EU to UC and the US AVIC was able to read the discs. Default location is Berlin Germany for disc three. However, the time zone is still off and not adjustable to a GMT +1 time zone and there is no Satellite lock... The antenna is getting a good signal but i am sure it does not know the transmission signature for the Satellites here in this time zone...

i Really believe that the key to make this work is in the OS that gets loaded from the disc when you , say (Upgrade Navi disc versions or Change Languages) This is what has the Satellite Information for the AVIC to know what to look for here in Germany...

There is no need for a different Antenna. It is just a matter of giving the AVIC the right information so it can know what to look for around here.

  2. I'm an American serving in US Armed forces Europe.... and i am in the same conundrum as the French guy. I have a US Spec Pioneer AVIC D3 unit i bought in the states with GPS. Correct me if i am wrong but doesn't GPS stand for GLOBAL positioning service or system..? i bought a GPS unit it can tell me where i am Globally... whether i am in Kansas or Butt Fuk India... Apparently i didn't buy that and as it turns out what i really bought was a UPS ( US Positioning system ) because as soon as i placed the European NAVI Disc in my Pioneer GPS Marketed D3 unit, they didn't work...

Thats like buying buy a 4x4 Jeep and then the damn thing turns off on you when you want to go off-roading on specific roads...

I too think its bull crap...

i have tried different resources and i really believe the D3's from Europe and the US are the same... i think the key is in the disc...

After numerous hours trying to mix files and change values on some of the files within the Discs, i still haven't been able to make them work....

  3. Does any one know if these are different (AVIC D3 US and Euro Spec GPS Antennas)...? im trying to use hacked Euro SPEC Navi disc with the US spec AVIC D3 and i really believe it doesn't grab a signal. I am a soldier support civilian stationed in Germany and i really need to get this head unit going. money is tight especially with the cost of living here in Germany being so high. Please note that the Euro Spec NAVI disc in question have been hacked using this method
