  1. I am using the X710BT and the mic was included in the package.

Not yours? Or has it broken down?

Never had one. The guy I bought it from kept telling me he had it, but with my hectic work schedule I haven't been able to get back with him to get it. It's been about a month now and my truck is starting to come together so I figured I'd just order the IR remote thing and the mic to complete my system.

Also I wanted to ask, if I download your updated mod will it be compatible with Abb's V5 or should I flash my hard drive and install it fresh? I think I've finally got his mod working (completely) but I had to flash my hard drive to do it.

  2. Excellent mod! I've been trying it out for a couple of weeks now. I have a few questions, I'm not sure if I'm getting the full functionality because I can't seem to get a night scheme loaded without it crashing and shutting down the navigation aspect of my f700. Also when I have my iPhone connected (3GS with 4.2.1) it reboots sometimes. I've tried restoring my phone but it works for a little while the goes back to rebooting again. Is there any chance your flash disk folder is still available for download? Just so I can make sure all of my files are correct.

    Thanks in advance

  3. Ok Chuck, home now and still nothing but a quick DOS screen. I have installed the emulator. The emulator.exe file is in C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Device Emulator\1.0, and I also moved the nk.bin file and igo folder (renamed to "igo-chuck88") inside C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Device Emulator\1.0 as well. Did I misunderstand something or do something wrong?

I know this was exactly what Abb was talking about as far as not being able to follow directions

I also changed the ".bat" file to "RUN_AVIC.BAT" and edited to "C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Device Emulator\1.0\DeviceEmulator.exe" /video 800x480x16 /memsize 256 /c nk.bin /sharedfolder "iGo-Chuck88" and still when I double click on it I get a quick DOS window that goes away before I can read it, then nothing else happens.

  4. Chuck,

Nope, didn't even get that window. Double clicked on the batch file (desktop icon) then a quick DOS window poped up then dissapeared right away and that was it. Nothing happened after that. Not sure if my maps are updated but if I'm not mistaken the very fist mod I did on my unit was Abb's V2.x, maybe those are the maps I have now. From there went to Abb's V4, then yours, and now Diafitia's.

  5. Silly question, just want to make sure: did you install the Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 Emulator by executing this file: standalone_emulator_V1.exe?

Ok Chuck, I'm sorry to keep bothering you with this but having that emulator up and running will be a HUGE step in the right direction for me. I tried what you suggested but couldn't locate the "hacked EZrider.exe" or the appropriate lisence file you mentioned. I'm sure I didn't do something incorrectly so I'm going to delete and uninstall everything I did and start over from scratch. Would it be possible to get a step by step?

  6. The wire is held in by a very tiny plastic clip in the connector. It should slide right in and lock in place normally and you can release it with a tiny flat head screwdriver, like one to repair eyeglasses.

Sounds like you broke it, no worries just pick up a tube of automotive goo from your hardware store and goo it in the connector, will work fine as long as you don't tug on it anymore

Thanks. Ended up bringing it in to work and having maintenance replicate the green clip, then crimping the wire in it and works fine now.

  7. I just read the instructions and is a bit lost on getting started ......this will me my first time using your software so am I using testmode or another method next question do I delete the whole disk drive or do I open the drive the select all the delete

For Chuck's mod you need to first downlod it and extract the files to and empty sd card ( just to make it easier ) you also want to put that test mode (V2.3) folder on there as well. Having the test mode folder on your sd card allows you to boot into that windows screen where you see " My Device", you'll need to double click on that and you will see all of the folders that you will be altering. If you want you can open Chuck's zip once you've downloaded it to see what's inside. The same files he provides you wit will also be inside of you "My Flash Disk" (which hopefully you've backed up) and you just REPLACE/OVERWRITE what is on your unit with the files Chuck gives you. DO NOT DELETE. that will be when you start to run in to freezes, reboots, and blackouts.

Good luck and let me know if I can help any further. :)

  8. Hmmm,

In the first download I got from the wiki section it instructed me to create a new text file with the text I copy and pasted, that in turn created the icon on my desktop that I tried to describe. When that didn't end up working I went back and downloaded from the rapidshare link you had posted for the other forum member and I think most of the changes you mentioned were already done ( basemap deleted, one map in the folder ect. ) the one thing I know for sure I didn't do is change the license and EZrider. Maybe that's my problem.

  9. I loaded all of the files, had to download and install virtual pc to instal the mobil 5.0 (if I'm remembering correctly) then copy and pasted the text it told me to and double clicked on the icon (Pioneer " " ") and I got a quick dos window then nothing. I just recently had to reinstall windows 7 on my MacBook pro so everything was wiped out. But that's the OS I'm using. Windows 7 Ultimate (specifically).

  10. Who knew customer service would be so great and that help plenty on the back up portion hopefully the modding goes smoothly also. Also will my steering controls work with a modded software?

I have read about that on here somewhere, I do believe you will have to buy something that you connect to your unit to get it to work. As I don't have them I didn't pay much attention. Try searching.

  11. Since you gave me so much insight i will try yours first however this is my first time trying this so i have not ever upgraded my soft ware nor backed up my software however i know you dont have time to explain to me how to do all that although if would be awesome but i will do some reading until friday and give it a show saturday but based on your pics your look great. i will ask if you dont mind me asking do you have any tips for a first newbie like myself so it will me a smooth process?

From one Noob to another, welcome

Just wanted to offer a couple of tips I've learned so far. You will be doing A LOT of reading here so the search option will be very useful. Ive found that if you put words under 4 letters together ( Gps not working = gpsnot working) it'll give you a pretty decent start. Also, not sure how good you are with computers but when they say " back up your flash disk" they mean the files on your unit. To do this take a sd card (2gig minimum), find the test mode file download(V2.3) on the site and put that folder on your sd card. Then go out to your car and (while the unit is off) insert the sd card. Now turn your unit on and it should boot into something like you would see on your computer. Next tap start at the bottom left, then programs, and explorer, open my device. Now do the same thing except at the end open storage instead of my device. From you my device tab (on the bottom) tap my flash disk, then edit ( up top) and copy. Next open your storage tab and tap edit, paste. This shoul copy your current ( working ) file to your sd card so that if you DO end up messing something up you can reload your files and fix it. VERY good idea to do this. TRUST ME :) after that you're ready to start modding.

Hope that helps and if I missed anything or stated something incorrectly, hopefully you more experienced guy/gals out there will correct me.

    Good Luck,

  12. Hey Chuck, sorry for the confusion and delay ( I've been VERY busy working on my system in my truck)

I had installed Diaftia's hybrid mod and I was trying to change his "screen off" look to yours. I opened both Data zips and found both your "blank screen" and his "screen off" and tried changing his to yours via copy and pasting. I ended up getting the look but the operation (touching the globe to make it disappear etc.) wasn't right. Still reading and searching, but as others have said, without being able to "emulate" (I think) on my desk top it's difficult to see if I've got it right until I load it up.

  13. Update:

Thanks for the info Chuck, I managed to get the color I wanted and also get the globe behind the time and date as in your mod but I was wondering if I had to alter more text to get it to react the same as it does in yours? I touch the globe and it goes away (good) then I press the lower left corner and it takes me back to map instead of blank screen. Then I click "Screen Off" again and no globe this time, and one touch takes me back to the map again. I'm altering Diaftia's Hybrid V3.4 mod a little. Any ideas what I'm missing? Also, if I should be asking these questions elsewhere please let me know (still a noob and don't want to upset anyone).

Thanks in advance for any advice

Oh and still getting that fatal error when I try and add a night scheme to the map too :(

  14. Thanks for the info Chuck. Sorry so late, I guess I didn't have it set up to e-mail me for this post (fixed now). I'll have to try that when I get off because I'm at work now posting from my phone. Couple things tho, I would like to try my hand at this modding thing so I want to know how I would change the color of the "screen off" clock to blue instead of green? If there is a post somewhere explaining in detail how to mod files to change things on the unit PLEASE post a link as I would REALLY love to give that a shot. I have been experimenting a little bit with other completed mods on here ( Abb's, yours, and most recently Diaftia's) but I would like to try and personalize them a little to go with the "theme" of my suburban. I've been reading ( A LOT ) and see everyone talking about WHAT they did but not really HOW they did it. I noticed that my flash disk still had all the files from all of you guy's/gal's mods. Common sense tells me that that's not good, but being a novice I figured I should ASK before I start deleting stuff:) The one major problem I had was when I tried setting the night scheme to valley moon ( I think ) it gave me a fatal error and shuts my navigation off. Have to reload the mod again to get pas the loading screen.

Sorry about the book just VERY curious about how this is done.
