  1. thanks guys,

after researching more i think i might get the kenwood dnx8120. seems like a better unit. I've always had pioneer head units though so i don't know if i want to try out kenwoods new one. :?

very good choice.. but make sure your good with XM. My understanding that Sirrus is not an option..

  2. A buddy of mine in Dallas who works for Sirius says the merger is closer than we think. Back seat Tv will be one of the top agendas they will work on. He also says Howard TV will be one of the programming channels added. There will be over 50 channels added to the three that exist as of now. There will be news, weather, sports, and music video channels. He also said the monthy service will be slightly raised but not by much. People with back seat tv already will not have to buy another unit, that is why they made the remote with buttons that dont function as of yet. There will be a programming guide on screen, and parental controls. Im so glad I have the unit installed already. As of now I dont watch it.

How many of you will buy this unit when its finalized?

Does anyone already have Back Seat Tv yet besides me?

I will try to provide any additional confirmed info as its relayed to me.

sign me up,, i cant wait.. i want my Nascar on Car TV... yipieeeee.

  3. If they want it that bad, let 'em have it. Pay $50 deductible for a new (and current if you happen to have a Z1 or Z2), and a new window. Not a bad deal for an upgraded unit with full warranty if you ask me...

I like that.. 'Upgrade Insurance" Not at bad way to look at it.. Hey thefs. come and get mine.... Pleaaase...

  4. The new Kenwoods are looking better and better every day. One of my friends just completed his install of his new Kenwood 8120. I'll tell ya, I dont think there is a better NAV unit out there now. In every aspect, it blows any Pioneer NAV out of the water. And to top if off, the audio stage quality is awesome, better then any Eclipse.. I know we are all Pioneer fans, hence this site, but sorry to say, you guys and gals need to take a serioius look at these Kenwoods. If you spend some hands on time playing with one you'll get the Kenwood bug... Man i do..

  5. Yes, tinted windows will affect the antenna reception. I have a sedan and orginally had the antenna placed on rear deck. I farted around with that for a couple hours one day until a smart neighbor came over and proved how dump i was. Ended up relocating antenna to dash.. Works great.

  6. I did some research last night and they are a little tight lipped but there definitly looks to be plans to add many more channels to this backseat tv service. Hopefully the Sirius/XM merger comes along soon. They may be your next big stattelite cable tv provider.

with MP4, I dont think they can get good pic quality with the larger TV screens. It will depend on how much bandwidth they use. I would suspect they will try to use as much bandwidth possible which will mean we are going to be stuck with the smaller screens.

  7. Anytime you do somthing with 'intent to harm' you are at extreme risk of getting your rear-end sued. It wouldnt be too hard for a theif to prove you placed razor blades etc.. with an 'intent to harm'

Like someone here already said.. 'pay the deductable' and be on your way. That's a small price to pay considering what you setting yourslelf up to be liable for..

  8. I couldn't find my VSS wire so I decided to hook it up another time. I only hooked up the reverse signal lead. I have to say, I'm surprised at how accurate the navi has been. It has been dead on so far. As of right now, I'm not worried about finding it. We'll see how it goes.

But like HiFiSi said, if you have access to it, hook it up. There's no reason not to.

I did'nt hook my up and thought the same as you did unitl a recent trip to the Redwoods. Once you start loosing Sat line of site, as i experienced gong the the Redwoods, the unit will stop tracking. With the VSS hooked up the unit will continue to track during the intermidnitent sig loss.

  9. I just purchased via mail order a Boyo chrome linense frame with back up camera. I'm not installing this on my vehicle. Don't get me wrong, the product is very nice quality and the chrome finish is superior, BUT, across the whole bottom section of the frame Boyo imbosed in very large lettering, "Patentent Pending" and several patent numbers. It's ugly as hell. If you are consideirng buying one of these, be forwarned,, you may not be happy.. I'm retuning mine today with a note why..

  10. A friend of mine works for The Speed Channel in the production side. A few weeks ago he told me if the XM/Sirrus Merger was successful, he heard Sirrus planned to add approx 50 + channels to its video products. He said they planned to use MP4 digital delivery to the car via special receivers. He does not have any information regarding programing but I would bet Nascar Racing, Football, Basketball are on the top of the list. If this pans out, i'll be signing up.

Questions about your video receiver, how many channels can it receive? How is the picture quality? Can you get video on the front main monitor if system is bypassed? Your install looks good. Thanks for posting.

  11. i wouldnt use or depend on the Avic for off road use. For one, the maping is intended for road use, i've see many simple dirt roads that dont show up on my Z2. For two, the Z2 is rugged, but not intended for rough off road use. Remember, there is a hard drive in that unit. Your best bet would be a Garmin Zumo with the Topo maps loaded. You would get all off road information and a ton more. If you are familiar with a USGS Topo maps, you would see the same information on your Garmin GPS. Here is some info on the Topp product. I believe you could install this on any Garmin GPS but check their site to make sure..

    good luck.

  12. It is interesting to see a few of you getting concerned about the warranty issues. And for good reason, expiacially when new units have bugs in them. Anytime you purchase any electronics, cameras, speakers, car audo,, etc... always make sure you purchase from a retailer that is an authorized reseller. Checking the manufactors web sites will show you who those resellers are. I can tell you from experience (many bad and worse from New Egg) that retailers will lie their guts to you convincing you they are authorized and your product has a warranty. NOT... They lied to you, got their money and that's that.. you have no warranty from there on.

I am curretnly doing research and pulling quite a bit of info togeher and may end up filing a class action againts New Egg. I cant spell out details as of yet, but may be posting soon asking if other site members are interested. Currently working with the FTC and working on a ton of paper work for them. If things look like a go, i let you board members know.
