  1. Everyone,

I wanted to let you know what an excellent experience I had with Garret and his preloaded Z3 drives he sells for $137.00 shipped. Garret always responded to my E-mails, he gave me his phone number, and I got the drive exactly as he promised I would.

The drive is awesome and it works great. No freezing or problems, and the new maps and CDDB CD database are awesome. I really appreciate his hard work, outstanding honor and great value. We basically get a new $1300.00 Z3 for the price of peanuts.

I highly recommend him. I just bought a second drive for my second vehicle, and living in Los Angeles, I need the maps and nav traffic absolutely.

    Thank you Garret. - Mark

  2. Everyone,

I've found a route to display your Palm only Treo on your Z1 & Z2.

It will cost you a couple of hundred dollars but since I live in my car I need E-mail and Google maps among other stuff, its great to display this.

    1. You need to find a copy of Margi Presenter to go for Secure Digital cards. It can be found on Ebay, amazon, and there are craigslist copies as well. Price$80.00-$150.00

    2. You need a PC to TV converter (Frys electronics) $80.00

    3. You need to go to Margi.com and go to support and download the mirror palm software to be loaded on your treo 600,650,680, 700 Palm version only.

    4. You need a power source for your Treo in your vehicle, and for the PC to TV converter. (I used my usb cable coming out the back of my AVIC Z1)

    5. You then need to calibrate your Avic z1 or Z2 to accept the incoming video Yellow plug from your Z1 to the PC to Tv converter. Then set the PC to TV converter for Ycrb, and hit the reset button. You also need to hook up a yellow video in cable to your Avic and have it go to the Yellow plug on the PC to TV converter.

    6. On your treo you need to set Margi for 1024X setting, and 80 updates on the calibration screen.

    7. You will also need a copy of the Palm program called "Always On" since

if your screen turns off, it turns the off the Margi Presenter to go program. Always On allows you to set the on off timer for your Treo Screen.

Also you can still hook up bluetooth and use your contacts and call log directory to make calls and route them through the Blue tooth ND BT1 in your Avic.

There are copies of Margi presenter to go for Pocket PC devices and handspring devices and Sony Clie devices but I havent tested them out.

For a total of about $200 - 300 dollars you have mobile carputer from your treo to AVIC screen. Just hit your AV button and then turn on the Margi presenter to go mirror program on your treo and the power button on the Pc to TV converter, and you can look at E-mail, Google Maps, text messages, surf the internet, etc.

  3. AFmagnum,

Thank you for clarifying that. I was worried. You are still "The Bomb" in my eyes.

Will you be able to give us a step by step way of explaining of how to do this free z1 to z2 upgrade of our hard drives? I would be in your debt, and if this works, I say we start a paypal donation to you to say thanks after all of the stuff that weve gone through, and you saving us the $250.00 B.S. pioneer fee.

  4. AF Magnum,

I'm not sure I understand. Now you are saying that this file upload is

"Actually, the files I linked to IS the image of the Pioneer update disks. Method 2, "CDROM ISO" is the actual upgrade disks from Pioneer. If applied to a pre-june Z2, it makes it bypassable. It's the same disks you use to upgrade your Z1 to a Z2 but will not work without an unlock code.

only for the CD ROM image that you use to make a Z1 into a Z2, but that you still need a code on Pioneers website for this to work."

Thats not what your post says below. A lot of us were led to beleive that you uploaded an image of a bypassable Z2 that we can load onto our Z1's and have it update the Z1 into a Z2 and have updated maps and still use our two wire bypass.

    What exactly are you uploading?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, I installed the Z2 image on my Z1 with great success. Everything is bypassed using the 2-wire bypass. So far I have 400+ miles from a trip I took yesterday and everything is still bypassed.

When I installed the drive, it took a few moments for "system updates" then everything came online. The version now reads 2.000 and I verified the maps were updated.

By the end of today, I will have over 600 miles with the new image. Assuming everything stays bypassed, I will do a level-4 reset, remove the drive and create a Bypassed Z2 image.

Right now, the image was 9.4 Gbs before I inserted back into my AVIC. I still don't have a good solution on how to share the image. Distributing DVDs is the last thing I want to do. I can WinRar the file into 1 Gb portions if needed.

  5. Teejlc,

I own a couple of buildings in Los Angeles. Do you have a roomate or are you aolne? I have two bed two bath on a Mountain with a view and all appliances and a one car garage for $1600. Kinda of steep if your alone but easy if you have a roomate. Its located in Mt Washington near Pasadena.

Send me a PM if you need help with your AVIC Z2 bypass I did it the hard way as I did it myself so i learned from the "Z"en Master Ducatiboy how to do it. As for the actual install? I cant really help you with all of the wires and stuff but i do know of a good install place Central Auto Sound in Glendale at 818- 500-9022 ask for Barry or Doug to do your install.

Westside rentals is a good place and Craigslist, which is where I list my properties and they are rented pretty quick and I get a ton of hits listing them there. westside charges you, but Craigslist is free and pretty extensive.

    1. Ask for Barry or Doug I cant remember which one did my install.

    2. They will do the bypass but when they did it they didnt insert wire #2 all the way in so it wasnt working. You may need to nudge them. Make sure when they do wire #2 that you can see the metal terminal sticking out of the back end of the wire so that it makes a good connection with unit when the harness is inserted.

    3. They charged me $225.00 for everything, including steering wheel controls, Ipod harness, and nav traffic tuner.

    4. Best buy sells the steering wheel control module for $120.00 it's easy to get it there as the best buy is a block away. Make sure you go around back of the best buy on Los Feliz Blvd. to the car stereo area.

    5. Tell them Mark with his AVIC-Z1 and his Red Nissan Xterra sent you!

  7. I think I realize now why so many of you get frustrated....

I had to go out there in the hot Los Angeles Sun and sweat all over my Xterra and fix THE STUPID 2 Connector wire that was loose! Thats all it was was that wire was loose. It is intimidating not really knowing how to work on car stereos, but after all of the patience that Ducatiboy showed me, I can only say thank you Ducatiboy.

Now is there a way to update my system with the new CDNV update disc to make my Z1 act like a Z2? Will that update disc work? If so I will spend the $250.00 and buy it. I will give the serial number and pass code to Hyperite so that he can generate a keygen unlocking code for everyone.

PS XM reset my system and the Nav traffic functions work now too!

  8. I had my Z1 installed on Friday with a Gex Pt 10 Nav Traffic Tuner. On Saturday I called XM and activated the radio and the Nav traffic functions.

As of this morning I havent been able to get any of the Nav Traffic features to work. All of my Xm channels work great.

Could this be an XM programming or updating problem? My hardware profiles say that my signal strength is strong and that my system is updating.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  9. It didnt work...I'm really bummed.

    1. I get the parking brake malfunction when I play dvds.

    2. I dont get the parking brake malfunction when I use Nav only functions.

    3. The Bluetooth update is currently loaded on my 12/06 refurbished unit.

    4. I will take pictures of the 2 wire bypass tomorrow so that I can post them on here and get ideas as to why I cant play DVD's while driving...

    5. It may be that the bypass wires are loose?

    6. I have too many black ground wires connected? ( I think I have three Black wires connected to the 2 connector and the light green parking brake wire.)

    7. I have access to XM but Nav traffic functions are disabled so I have to assume my Gex PT10 reciever works and theres a problem on XM's side?

Anybodys thoughts and input would be appreciated...DucatiBoy thank you for everything so far.

  10. DB,

Thank you for your help and patience. Ive got some updates to my system.

    1. I got the correct speed sensor wire installed. I now get the speed sense update showing signal strength. (I did it myself.) If I didnt have the Speed sensor connected would the 2 wire bypass error out with parking brake Malfunction?

    2. My installer did do the two wire bypass. He grounded the light green parking brake wire and the connector 2 wire to black ground wires. He used the plastic crimps to connect the green park brake and connector two wire to a couple of black ground wires. I dont have a soldering tool. Should I take it back to my installer to have them soldered just in case? Should I only have the parking brake and 2 connector wire grounded to ONE black ground wire? Instead of a couple?

    3. When I drive now I can use all nav functions.

    4. I havent tested when I play a DVD if it will error out and give me the parking break malfunction. I will go out and drive it now...

    5. I GOT the Bluetooth update CD to load on my AVic-Z1 IT Says that its ALREADY UPDATED!!!! Another major thing done.

    6. I have refurbished December/2006 unit.

    7. I called XM yesterday and activated my Nav traffic and Xm subscription, so I have Xm all channels, but I still cant get any of the Navtraffic functions to work. I even reset the Gex pt10 unit too. Does this sound like an XM system problem? I should proably call them in the AM...

Thank You Ducati Boy for your help. Any more words of wisdom would be appreciated.

  11. DB,

One more thing, when you you say on your site to ground this pin (Connector 2) do you mean I take a wire out of the big whte plastic plug, and stick the yellow wire into that actual pin the bottom far right pin? then take that yellow wire and splice it into a black ground wire somewhere else on the vehicle?

If my parking break is always staying on in the hardware settings no matter what how many times I lift it up and down, what else should I do to check my connections?

I use NERO and I have the AvicBlueTooth Iso sitting on my desktop. It is one of two states 1. in a folder that needs to be unzipped. Should I unzip it and then drag and drop it into a the E Drive where I have a CD RW disk waiting for it?

Or should I leave it unzipped and drag and drop that into the Drive E with a CD RW disk waiting?

Can you give me the exact steps to burn it using Nero 7? I've tried buring it many different ways and I cant get my Avic z1 to update. I push on the map button, I'm already displayi9ng the map screen when I load it, I ve tried getting it to update from every imaginable screen and no matter how I do it iot wont read the bluetooth update cd. [/img]

  12. DB,

Thank you. My parking brake stays on all of the time no matter what I do. What I do get is the parking break warning.

I had the install done friday night and when I did the 3 flashes of lights I could get the nav functions to work, but when I started playing the Dvd player it came with you are not allowed to watch the Dvd player while moving and then it would cut out.

What color is the speed sensor wire coming out of the AVIc-z1.

My Z1 is a refurbished unit does that matter?

  13. Everyone,

I posted this once and got no help.

    1. The pictures that Ducatiboy posted to do the two wire bypass for Z1 dont help me. I dont think I have the 2 wire bypass done last friday by my installer correctly.

    2. I cant get my Z1 to recognize the Bluetooth update CD. I've tried burning it with Windows, Nero 7 and I cant get the Z1 to see the update cd as anything miore than Cd -rom loaded.

    3. I go to Settings- Hardware- Connections - I get no speed pulse signal and i move the parking brake up and down and nothing happens.

Does anyone have any additional photos of how to do the bypass?

Does anyone have any better free cd burning instrcutions to do the bBluetooth update?

Does anyone have any detailed instructions on how to install the Nav Traffic tuner. I have the service enabled, but I get no traffic updates when I input a Nav direvtions to a destination?

If no one wants to help me can they send me to a good installer in Los Angeles who knows what the heck they are doing?

  14. My Avic-Z1 I odered off of Ebay is coming on Tuesday or Wednesday and I wanted to know of a good install place that would do a good job installing the Avic-Z1, Blue Tooth, Gex-pt10 Nav traffic Tuner the SWi-PS and most importantly Ducati's Flacher Bypass in the Los Angeles area?

I dont know if I need the Flasher yet or what the date of the manufacturer is for my Z1. I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra with the Rockford Fosgate System and Steering wheel controls.

Any good suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks Everyone.

  15. To go even one step futher let's think about this:

Since we can hook up our AVIC-Z1's to a USB cord why not try to get the Display to show our PDA desktop? That way you could actually control your PPC or your WM5 Treo 700W or WX from your display screen and pull up anything you wanted including running TOM TOM navigation since I know that our navi's leave much to be desired at least until the update. You could even pull up your contacts list and surf the net and watch your cable/Direct TV at home through a slingbox display on our Z1's & Z2's.

Everyone the possiblilities are endless. Is there a way to load a software program onto our Z1's that allow to us fully mirror our PDA phones on the Z1 display through the USB cable? I'm sure if some one is running a "carputer" through the Z1's(Which I've seen on this site.) then there must be a way to do a mirror display on the Z1 display from our WM5 PDA/phones through the USB hook up. Who should we ask?

Let's work together on this. Mark
