  1. Unless Pioneer is taking yet another step backwards, my Z150 has station labels on the presets. I'd guess that the NEX would have them as well.

Anything is possible....my Z130 had voice recognition until I "upgraded" it to the Z140 map update - the VR for the GPS was terrible anyway so I didn't mind losing it, it was stated on the update package so it wasn't a surprise but it was a feature lost.

  2. One of the several annoying things with my AVIC Z130 is the regular radio (AM/FM) presets don't show a station label, just preset 1, 2, 3 etc so you have to remember what preset is what - kind of stupid.  Does the NEX fix that?  Would also be nice if you could have presets on pages mixed between XM, AM and FM too, and displayed at the same time as the map, but for starters the broadcast radio call letter/number lables would be nice.   I wanted the built in GPS anyway but I definately would not have gotten the AVIC for the app radio mode.  It all sounded good but never lived up to the hype for me with my Iphone 4S.  Then I got an Iphone 5S and, well, the cables needed to make that workwith the Z130 just didn't seem worth the hassle.  I'm interested to see the NEX in persion but if the NEX isn't leaps ahead of the AVIC in the app radio mode and the UI I don't think it'd be worth the change for me just yet.

  3. I have a Z130 with the latest Navtech update.  I also have an Iphone 4.  It works good as everyone knows.  I'd like to get an Iphone 5 but I don't care to go through the hassel of another cable workaround to get video and the app radio items.  Anyone know if it would it be possilbe to get say Netfliex video and app radio through an Ipod Touch 4 hooked up to the existing cable as long as the Ipod was tethered via wifi to the Iphone 5 for the internet access?

  4. Pioneers website has detailed specs on both but they are basically the same interface and as was said one has smaller screen with vol knob, the other doesn't, HD with traffic tuner is included with the Z140. I have a Z130 upgraded to a Z140, the bigger screen is nicer and the HD radio with traffic tuner is useful but honestly there are times I miss the vol. knob even though I have steering wheel controls. The tilt adjustable screen hasn't been an issue since I don't use it very much.

Overall the interface could be better thought out. I find myself working the screen too much and can be distracting while driving. The presets should be able to be shown on screen as bottons on the bottom at same time the map is displayed. My Saab 9-5 Navi has this (and buttons can be AM/FM/XM on same menu page, with titles or frequencies as button lable) - makes life a bit easier. I'm not sure I'd have gotten mine if I had it to do over again but I don't know what I would have bought over it either, Kenwood maybe since I bought it mainly for the GPS and while the NavTech map update is an improvement it still does some weird routing when I get in rural areas. But I'm stuck with it now, it was a big investment and likely will keep it as long as the car or until the HU dies so I make the best of it.

  5. I read the 32-page PDF linked above.

Not sure there's any (or at least not enough) benefit from updating.

Certainly don't want to take the chance on bricking my AVIC.

I did the NavTec map update to my Z130BT - worked flawlessly. Haven't given the GPS a real test for routing but maps show a lot more current POI's The now lack of voice for the GPS is a little annoying, I did use it a couple of times before, but it was also buggy which was annoying too.

  6. If you read the manual closely that section is for the 930BT and that is where the screen shots are from. Go to Pioneers website, there is a youtube video introducing the Z130BT, somewhere in there they show how to make an am/fm preset and they show the screens without the preset stations showing on the list and gloss right over it

I find I like the HD radio both sound and multiple stations per "station" but I really hate the lack of text on the preset list.

  7. Thanks, I know I am having issues with the traffic tuner based on another thread, I wasn't sure if the RDS transmissions (song name, station ID, etc) could be related since the traffic tuner is a separate unit but it might make sense an inoperative traffic tuner, if it is the RDS source, is the reason I don't see station ID's and song names on most of the stations.

  8. I got this info from the Pioneer Support center when I talked to them over phone. So, this is not documented anywhere else. Like I said, CAN refers to the version number of the tuner. If that is not detected, it means that the traffic tuner is not hooked up correctly or the traffic tuner is defective.

OK, thanks. I appreciate the info.

  9. Is this documented anywhere in the installation instructions or in a link somewhere. I'd like to show my installer.

I have all -------- at the CAN number. Tthey've had the unit out a couple of times sorting out a few things, now my AM and FM reception is spotty and no RDS provider is shown on the Traffic Tuner. I know for sure that the it used to show the RDS provider. I think something came loose or the didn't hook it back up right.

For benefit of others, if you face the same issue as mine then please verify the below.

    • Press the “HOME” key

    • Select the “Settings” tab

    • Select “System Settings”

    • Select “Service Information”

    • Press and hold the upper left corner of the “Service Information” screen for a few seconds

    • The "Platform Version" number and the "Application Version" number will be displayed --please look at

the "CAN " number, which is displayed at the bottom of the screen

If this is dashes, then it means one of 2 things. 1) Installation was not done correctly 2) the tuner is defective.

CAN shows the version of traffic tuner. If this is blank means that the unit is not detecting traffic tuner.
