  1. I doubt pioneer will produce any fix for AR1 iphone5 compatibility. They've made it pretty clear to the community they've all but dropped support for AR1 and are focusing on AR2.

I would recommend going with an AR2, or figuring out some way to mount a touchscreen in your car to interface with some airplay device (kivic-one if it ever actually gets produced, check out kivic-one.com, or you could put an appleTV in your car and put a portable router in there. People have claimed they can still get internet even if they're connected to a dumb-router... or you can get the ATV to tether to your iphone's internet connection).

Those are all just thoughts... appradio is a well meaning product, but it just feels very half-baked in many ways.

I have downgraded my head unit in favor a a simple mechless that I've installed in my glovebox, and I made a cradle for an iPad mini to install in the dash.

  2. Hello folks, as you know I"m getting out of the appradio scene, my loss can be your gain, though. I have a DA-01 for sale. All items are in working condition (i.e. iphone cable), and as a bonus, I will also throw in the Pioneer cage you need in order to install it in a car. That's a 40 dollar value right there!

Anyway, for those interested (or if you know someone that is), it's going for a steal right now (currently set at $100 with a buy it now of $150). Don't think you can find a cheaper one on the internet right now.

Let me know if you have any questions!

  3. Only problem is, the dash on the A3 isn't as tall as the VW CC, so if you notice the top is open (unlike the one that soundmanCA made). I had to put the mag-strip on the bottom instead of the top, and I also made slight flanges on the left and right so it in effect snaps into place. +/-, the pain will wear there, but the mini doesn't move at all (and doesn't rattle, most importantly).

I'll post the finished product, and if people care I can post other photos of it while it was in-work.

  4. Just some ideas for folks still trying to figure out where to go to get the fully integrated apple-infused radio experience...

This is what I wound up doing (pics attached). It wasn't too hard to do, and I can elaborate on the process if you like. Head unit is a cheap 50 dollar mechless, the cable will go behind the dash when finished, it does have steering wheel control (via steering wheel control to the head unit, and then AVRCP to the ipad mini). This head unit actually sounds better than the old appradio 1 that I had because it ACTUALLY has 4 pre-amp outs to drive my amplified bose system.

I felt bad when I pulled the radio out, but now... I don't regret it :D

P.S. I have an appradio 1 that I'd be willing to sell for cheap now!!ocXIfl.jpg

  5. Mike,

I currently have problems when using an GPS application like TomTom or Navigon, that my iPhone overheats.

The iPhone even shuts down wit a warning for overheating.

I don't know if it is a problem with the Appradio Extensions or with the Pioneer unit itself, but i'd like to mention the issue.

Furthermore the AppEX are fairly useable at this moment already.

An option that might be usefull, is that on a per app basis you could set if it needs to be rotated or not.

But thanks for the effort already

I feel like the phone overheating issue is actually a pioneer thing. Also, I've found that with backgrounding enabled, you can actually lock the phone and shut off the display on the iPhone (saving you some heat). Running the display is one thing that makes the phone very hot. I don't know what pioneer was thinking when they made it a requirement to leave the phone's screen on, I don't think any phone's screen was meant to remain active for such long periods of time.

  6. I wouldn't call it "stupid" as that is somewhat inflammatory, and it would be doing a disjustice to the good work that they've done. What might need to happen is a come to solution that can dynamically switch sources when called to do so. With the hackradio having a software daemon listening for touch events on the iPhone, perhaps it could be made to look for phone calls, and on receiving one switch the Bluetooth source to the radio side of things, no need in tying up Bluetooth with the hands free feature if you only talk on the phone occasionally, right?

I see a great opportunity here,

  7. Yeah -- if you DO do that, you need to use crackulous. Luckily, I still had appradio version 1.5.0 installed on my ipad, and I used crackulous to rip it/transfer it to my iphone.

So -- on AR 1.7.0, I'm finding that the enhanced app mode doesn't work on the old firmware (I'm still on factory firmware). I know I should upgrade, but being a longtime follower of the jailbreak community, in that world we don't upgrade our firmware unless there's a damned good compelling reason to do so.

Dropping down to 1.5.0, I've had no problems with the current firmware. Something has changed, but I'm not quite sure what. Also, for the record, tomtom works beautifully with this hack :) That is probably the SINGLE biggest utility I see in this so far :)

  8. Just curious, could you use a piece of software like "Switcher Rotator" to force landscape?

Just a thought, though. Perhaps you had a different direction in mind?

I know you aren't a troll -- I'm eagerly awaiting the hackradio.me, I just feel like both Mike's work and the mimics solution (if that's what it is) will both be high quality products. I just don't think mud needs to be slung in either direction :/

  9. "AppRadio CrapRadio meets HackRadio"

    Hardare V's Software

    Innovators V's Imitators

Funny that you only have 2 posts on the entire board, and you liken mike's work to being an "Immitator", when the stated name of other methods is "mimics". <_<

    Trolls will be trolls, though.

  10.

I hope this didn't come off rude in any way. I was waiting for those guys to release HackRadio but I didn't realize it required the Mimic's hardware.

Not rude at all, dude. No one has any expectation that you HAVE to update your extensions (I think I don't only speak for myself when I say that). Throughout history, though, you find innovation happening seemingly in parallel. Bell was working on the telephone at the same time as his competitors, there was a rival team to Watson and crick to elidicate the structure of DNA... And while this is not quite as momentous as the aforementioned, hackradio shows up on the scene, and that inspires you to do the same thing, but taking a slightly different direction.

Make no mistake, I'm a big fan, and if I had more time to brush up my programming skills, these are the kinds of projects I wish I could get into.

  11. I find it interesting that hackradio.me releases a video, and it inspires you to basically do the same thing in a weekend.

Fab job, dude. I think there would be several people that would be grateful enough to donate to PayPal if you set it up. This could potentially be scalable to other head units since it looks like appradio app is going to be the control app for other head units as well.

  12. Dang, dude, did you get the gsEvent working?

I wonder what the basis of springboard control not working is?

Have you thought about making an sbsettings toggle to toggle ARextensions on/off quickly, so the stock applications can be accessed? Im not sure that anyone would even want to use the stock applications if you had full iOS access (because there are much better nav/music/photo/whatever applications than the ones bundled with pioneer).

Look out, mike! Pioneer might come knocking on your door trying to give you a job ;)
