  1. Nice well that's a good enough start. I found an app on the Play Store that runs conversion for you from all the offline files.. It's like 4 bucks I think and seems to work well enough. It converts any files that are saved for offline and then removes the offline status so it doesn't re download them and supposedly monitors for new files saved and does those on the fly. May not have to physically transfer the music over which would be nice.

Nice to know, what's it called?

  2. That is rather annoying... I was under the impression it actually downloaded the files... For instance if I go into a file explorer on my Nexus I can see all my Google music I have "saved" and can play them with my data turned off. But you are saying they are not actual MP3's but just cached versions of streaming files?

What I need to do is go to my computer and physically transfer all my music to my phone and then they will show up in the car media player app? that is not a huge deal just annoying. I assume this is a problem with the app that Google needs to update so it can work with the appradio app? Or they need to make Google Music a compatible app?

Yeah you can seem them, but they aren't actually .mp3 or.mp4 files. It is a cached folder. Yes you'll need to transfer the files to your phone in order to listen to your music. This is a bit annoying as I am just like you and always used the Google music app. Hopefully appradio will eventually make Google music a compatible app so we can still stream.

This is where your offline or cached music is stored. sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music

  3. So they are actually downloaded files from google music and not cached files? If you have google music save files for offline listening (you went through the process of selecting music in the app after selecting "save for offline" and then hit done) through the app they are not actually downloaded. They are just cached, so there is not an actual mp3 file.

You'd need to actually download the files. from your computer and then transfer them over. I no longer use google music now that I have this and just use the stock music player or the car media player since all of my music is not actually downloaded to my sd card. I hope that helps.

  4. Can you tell me how you fixed this?

Ok, so my phone stopped asking to pair every time. I am not sure I did anything special. As far as getting past the part your describing with the parking break. What I have been doing and it's working great is set the phone to mirror when the hdmi is detected. Go through the bypass steps so that your phone is mirrored on the display. Then go into your apps and launch the car media app. When I do this it launches me into the AppRadio App and everything is perfect. For some reason I have to trick it but it works. Usually have to do the touch screen set up every time but that's no biggie.

    Hope this helps!

  5. On the Android front I'd love to be able to still use our voice search app. I use this all the time to send texts and call people hands free. Would be nice if that was an app that could be used within the appradio system.

If not that then Pioneer needs to create some app that will read out text messages when they are received. Something similar to the MotoSpeak app would be awesome. Right now all you get is the text message received notification which prompts you to pick up your phone and look at it. A mirror of the MotoSpeak app would be perfect, it tells you that a text has been received then asks you if you'd like to respond or ignore. Simple and works great!

    I hope you're listening Pioneer! ;o)

  6. I just downloaded the update for the AppRadio app today and about to see what improvements they made. Have you done that already?

Yes, it just updated to make the Galaxy Nexus compatible.

I figured out a way to trick my system. If I put the phone in mirror mode and then go into my apps and open up the music player or one of the compatible advanced apps it then asks me to set up the phone and go through the touch screen dot portion. Everything then works fine. Unfortunately it makes me do this step EVERY time. I think this thing has huge potential and hopefully Pioneer is watching these threads and the Play Store comments to see how many problems there are. I got my system from BB and am a silver member so I have 45 days to return I am going to continue to tinker with this thing before I give up. I feel like I'm getting closer to the way I want it daily.

Pandora however... thats another story. When I access pandora from the AR2 I get no audio through the head unit. The visuals are there but the audio is now playing from my phone? Thoughts?

  7. This may seem like a silly and simple question, because I think it is, but when you connect your Moto Android phone do I need to set the HDMI to Mirror for everything to work? I was thinking that once connected the AppRadio app would launch and I'd have function to those apps without selecting anything on the HDMI connection options in the drop down box.

Scenario 1: I didnt select anything and when I dont do that I get the "Warning watching video in a moving car is strictly prohibited" prompt and when I click my bypass I get the Motorola logo screen saver.

Scenario 2: BUT when I select Mirror mode I get the AppRadio App launch and then when I click the bypass I get full access to my phone.

I am thinking that I do have to select an HDMI option, but was expecting that the app would recognize the HDMI and then launch itself. I dont think that's the case now though.

Can someone clarify for me? Thank you VERY much!!! This is a great site and community just like most forums out there.

UPDATE: Ok so now nothing gets me into the appradio app mode. This is getting VERY frustrating. When I plug in the phone and everything is connected, appradio app says to connect to the phone but it doesnt just shows to plug in the hdmi cable, I get NOTHING at all no matter what I chose. It is like the app is not recognizing that the cable is there.

I'm about to take this thing back and find something more reliable. I can't troubleshoot every time I hook it up.

    Have a great day.

  9. How did you fix the issue with your phone. Mine is doing the same thing.

If you are receiving the message I think you are I get that until I apply the parking break bypass. then a box appears to hit ok.

Yeah, same thing here. Only way I can get anything on my AR screen is by checking the Mirror option when the HDMI is hooked up and that is after I do the parking break bypass. Nothing happens auto like it should when the app is running, showing as connected and the HDMI is connected. I'm about to take this thing back and either try another one or just move on.

  10. Ok, I figured it out and realized that there was a problem with my phone. Got that fixed and it now pairs, BUT now when I connect the HDMI cable it doesnt enter app mode. I get the "no video" warning/alert and then it just stays on that screen. Never switches into app mode although it does show in the radioapp that I am connected. This is getting frustrating. Just when I think I'm there! HA.

  11. Make sure the radio tuner is off, it seems to mess with the bluetooth connection for some reason, once connected it's fine to turn the tuner on.

Can you explain a bit more? Thanks

I think i have figured it out. It seems to be a touchy sequence. What i don't understand though is why does it ask me to pair on my phone every time? Its thi normal? All of my past Bluetooth units asked me in the initial set up and the was it.

  12. I want to do this with my galaxy nexus (android 4.0), and am just waiting for hardwire micro usb kit to come in. This thread is good news to me.

When you say it works, can you briefly give me some more detail?

I'm mainly looking to mirror google maps and google nav onto the appradio. Can you control the phone (for example launch maps and then navigation from the pioneer unit), by only interfacing with the appradio and not touching the phone once its hooked up?

The fact that this unit doesn't have a sd or micro sd slot and no front aux input are big drawbacks to me, but as far as I know this is the only head unit that has any type of compatability to use apps like pandora on screen with android phones. Everything else only works with iphones ( which I never plan to get).

From my understanding you cannot use the AppRadio 2's touch screen interface if you are mirroring your phone. At that time you'll have to use the phone. You can only use the unit's touch screen when you are using the "Apps" that are compatible with the unit. So you can't use the units screen to control Google Navigation but you can use it to control Waze and Waze Navigation.

I am having problems with my bluetooth connecting and disconnecting so I haven't had the time to really play with this bad boy yet. Hopefully I'll get a replacement soon.

If I am wrong, someone please chime in but based on my brief interaction with the unit I feel like I'm correct.

  13. If you run the AppRadio app on your phone, connect the HDMI cable and connect via bluetooth, you should see "the bubble" screen - black background with a while bubble. Touch the bubble on the radio, and it'll move around - 5 times for me IIRC - and then the radio should be paired with the phone and the radio screen should start working properly.

I reset the device and after it played around for a few seconds of switching between landscape and portrait what your talking about happened. I got it all set up. Thanks for your helP!

Is there anyway to listen to local radio and use Waze or Maps at the same time? If not I sure hope that Tunein becomes app compatible fast! ;o)

  14. Hello... newbie here on the forum.

I installed my App Radio 2 yesterday and am using it with a Droid Razr. I am having a problem accessing the apps though. When I plug my phone in on the units screen it is a mirror of my phone and goes constantly from landscape to portrait of the installed appradio app on my phone. Can someone please assist?

I have the bypass installed and I dont think that is the issue.

What are people selecting as the view mode when your android device asks you once the HDMI is plugged in?

    Thank you for any help!!!
