  1. Trying to get a good background and man this thing is finicky.  The manual says the display is 2400x480.   So, I have tried the following:

A 2400X480 pixel image in high, middle and low qualities (hoping the unit would squeeze it into view)

A 8##X480 (16:9....I can't recall the width) pixel image in high, middle and low qualities

Same images as above but @ 479 pixel height to see if 480 is a threshold.

Changed the tag from .jpg to .jpeg

    A much smaller image.

    All alpha character file names

Earlier I had found a bunch of images on the web I wanted to try.  Some worked, some didn't.

Here's the kicker about the ones that worked......if I modify them in any way, the unit no longer sees the file.  Even more - if I just resave the image that already works in PS without making any changes whatsoever the unit stops seeing it lol.  I tried resaving it at higher quality than the original, then lower quality and either way the unit stops seeing it

    So what's the formula?

There's an option called "trim" .. its auto fits the picture to fully fit the screen.

  2. Hi All,

i received a notification from Pioneer about iPhone 5 update availability (i've an european AVH-8400BT).

As i've got an iPhone 5, i downloaded the ZIP and followed the instructions.

Step 1: BT Firmware -> OK!

Step 2: First file -> OK!

    Step 3: Second file...

I put the USB flash drive in, demo appeared, so i pressed menu button. The demo crashed. I had the part about the "MIXTRAX" feature freezed on the screen. I pressed the RESET button on the unit and... booom!

The unit doesn't power up anymore.

    Black screen. Completely dead. Nothing!

I checked the fuses and they're ok.

I tried to disconnect the unit and then reconnect it. Nothing.

    It's dead.

I'll take it to a repair center tomorrow, but i want to ask you: did you have success updating your 8400bt firmware? Do you know if there's a way to power up the unit and fix this issue?

Wish I could help you buddy, my firmware update went good and no problems. It is very sensitive process.

  3. A few days ago I posted a thread about my volume/mute buttons that stopped working.  Well, this morning I think I finally figured out why.  I have had a cab (outside clearance) light leaking on my truck for awhile, and I havent been able to find the source to the leak so I could fix it.  Well..... due to the angle my truck was parked last night, I came out this morning after a all night rain to see water on the inside of my windshield and on my dash where it had dripped off.  Upon looking closer, I saw water on the front of my unit.  Down where the screen meets the buttons, etc.  It started acting really irratic, shutting itself off and on, changing sources all by itsself, volume up and down, and then locked itself on the tuner source and won't allow me to do anything now.  In the bottom right hand corner of the screen I can see what appears to be water, and the screen is kinda starting to fog over.  So...... this leads me to my next question.

Is this unit worth fixing?  Or do I call it a total loss.  It sucks because the unit isnt even a year old yet.  I bought it June of 2012.  So... just looking for some opinions on which direction I should go!  Thanks!

To be honest I think its a goner. You can try and dry it with rice, but I truly think its gone. You might as well get the 8400 series. But first you need to fix the leak or buying a new unit wont do any good for long term.

  4.  If I want to carry around a 7" screen with me, i'll buy an ipad. Do you really consider the 'locked' glovie safer than under the seat?

Are you retarded ?? 1st of all, the glove compartment is way safer than the obvious under the seat, you have to be a complete moron to put it under the seat. The glove compartment is under a lock and key and you cant break into it, you can just snap the handle off but you wont be able to open it. Under the seat, wow you are such a fool.

And who carries it around ?? I take it home or bring it in with me inside a friends house or whatever, and if its a night out glove compartment. Ipad ? lol you idiot, Ipad size is like 5 times this screen.

  5. Don't most people just stick the detachable face under the drivers seat? I can't imagine it's much of a deterrent these days.

If you stick your detachable face under the drivers seat you are a brain dead moron and deserve it to be stolen from you.

I take it with me, and it also depends on the area, if its a good area I just hide it in the glove compartment and lock it.

  6. Comercial CDs dont contain text info or at least most don't. The only reason you may have seen that on older units is because those units support the CDDB database that has a large catalog of CD titles to match with the CDs when loaded. But as one of you already stated: CDs are a dyeing breed and manufactures aren't going to support older standards when most users are moving on to more modern forms of media. Do yourself a favor and get a USB device and rip your CDs to uncompressed audio files and be done with the problem once and for all.

Yea no shit who uses CDs anymore ?? CDs are dead, I can fit 10,000 songs with album artwork and info on a 16gb USB drive ... while you can fit 12 song with nothing on a CD. Seriously, get with the times.

  7. Its not a pain in the ass to remove or refit the face plate ... you're OBVIOUSLY doing it wrong. Takes me a second to take it off and put it on without any issues whatsoever. Learn how to use the unit before you break it. Seriously kid. I had this unit for a year and not ONE issue. Its not the unit its the OWNER.

  8. While waiting for my AVH-X8500BHS (which is pre-ordered), I've been looking over the manual and I found some really disappointing news.

When using the lightning connector, you can ONLY play audio and video through the Advanced App Mode and you can't use the Pioneer iPod controls.  That means you either have to use the Advanced App Mode application called "CarMediaPlayer" to play your content, or you need to control it yourself on the iPhone.

This is really disappointing because I was hoping to use the car stereo interface to navigate my songs and videos (using link search, etc).

    Really disappointed :(

8500BHS is pretty much a twin of 8400BH. Theres almost no difference at all. Yes I did extensive research.

  9. pioneer will not fix anything with this unit. if no one else can find a fix, then you are better off waiting for another unit to come out. pioneer has pretty much released this unit with all its issues and left it as is, regardless who its affected.

as for those who have bought the new iphone, well, the connector is different. theres nothing that can be done really except try the adapter and see if it helps.

Listen kid we get it you are a pioneer hater. Bottom line this unit shits all over any other unit out there from Alpine to Kenwood to JVC. I have no issues with this unit at all, NONE. I love this unit, it is simply amazing. Sucks for you you got a lemon and now you are sore about it. Listen, why dont you just f off out of here if you are so anti pioneer. You loser.

  10. Anyone ever figure this out? This is driving me crazy!

Im still trying to figure this out. Its so f'in weird. A song that I stream via USB cable from my phone shows the artwork, yet the same song, the same file does NOT show the SAME artwork if I play from a USB. Some artwork shows up from USB, some doesnt. Streaming from the phone via USB shows ALL artwork.

  11. Well there are a lot of threads about that here.

Here are some from the top of my head: often failing the firmware update, which apparently causes the bt module to be bricked. SD-card features suck tbh (quite often failing to initialize it - needs a reboot; the ID-tag playback problem I made a thread about; makes duplicate artists in the ID-tag category, although the name is exactly the same on my PC and the unit). Doesn't show artist-track info when playing audio CD-s (yes, the CD-s have that information and they work on my old 1 DIN unit).

I dont use SD cards, I use USB and I have no issues at all, even art work is showing. I really, do not encounter any issues with my unit, I love it.
