1.
The Z1 has the newest maps of any PIONEER nav system.
Don't know about that the avic s1 which has navteq is pretty up-to-date, One review here
http://reviews.cnet.com/Pioneer_AVIC_S1_GPS_receiver/4864-3430_7-31933234.html?ctype=msgid&messageSiteID=7&messageID=2182918&cval=2182918&tag=uolst. Also mentioned how the avic s1 has subdivisions other avic units don't have.

If you ask me I believe the reason is because avic s1 uses navteq, which many believe is more up-to-date while the teleatlas which the avic z1 uses is not so up-to-date many say. But others may say teleatlas is better but who knows, I'm pretty new to all of this. God Bless
  2.
Hi!! First at all excuseme for my english.

that's my first post at the forum, congratulations for the work.

I've AVIC-HD1BT that is the european model of AVIC Z1, and
previously i had the AVIC X1/R, when I had the X1R i can load
POI's of Speed Cameras from a CDROM (folder POINTS) and it was saved at the AVIC (300 max). Now I've mounted HD1BT with CD-IB100 for Ipod and DVB-T from Pioneer also, but now I'm looking the way for saving poi's for HD1BT or Z1.

    Anyone can help me? thanks
I've noticied that the avic's in Europe and etc have extra features and capabilities to enhance your avic. I noticied this with the avic s1. But I don't know if our American avic unit can perform those tasks.
  3.
What does everyone think of the Kenwood unit with it's additional nav system add on. The nav system is made by Garmin so I would assume it's pretty nice. There is a japanese kenwood model that was at CS this year that is a double din unit but that isn't suppose to come out for a few years still. It was pretty sweet! Had nav system that used satellite maps like google.
Hey penny you talking about the Kenwood HDV-770 Car Navigation System I don't know if it will come out in the U.S. though. God Bless

  5.
hey guy's i sell that unit at work and clients love it...but it seem that it give you always the longest way..even in the menu we teyed shortest or longest ..it's the same.lol

    i seen this on pionner

Our new slim, hand held navigation system has 26 European countries already pre-installed and ready to use. Now, you can navigate 7 million kilometres, with access to 1.78 million Points of Interest, out of the palm of your hand.

    european maps?true?

anybody have something cool that i should no ove?

by the way the rest of the feature are very good.and the bluetooth is very stable,un like the totom 700 another one i sell.....
Yeah! Why does it always take the longest route? I noticied that on some occasions? Is there maybe a update or firmware upgrade that can possibly fix this? Thanks and God Bless
  6.
just got my second z1 . i missed it .. my frist one was stolen.. out of my truck that was in my garrage . and my amps.. so anyway after fighting with the insurance company . i bought anthor z1 but it was a july one.. so i return it and finially found the last june one at circiut city and got everything installed with the ducati flasher and it works great.! i really missed it..
Yeah whoever goes to that chat thing, please ask pioneer to make a cover or just some security features making the z1 or future models hard to rip out the car. Thanks and God Bless.
  7.
Hey Soldier. I am glad you got your mount figured out. I was going to tell you that it is very stiff and you have to put some elbow into it, but now you know. Here is how I mounted mine. I used a Pro Fit cellular mount.
Oh okay cool. How is the avic s1 working for you so far? It's going great for me. Left it out in the sun for a while and it got hot, the directions said not to leave it in the sun, it got hot, but it should be fine right? I don't won't it to bother the navigation accuracy.

Have you heard of the TMC kit? http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/product_detail.jsp?product_id=12663&taxonomy_id=25-38

But it's only in Eurpoe and other countries. I called pioneer and I don't think the U.S. will have it. Also international countries have this feature https://www.navigon.com/site/int/en/shop/radar

But I like the avic s1, except when it tells me to turn left sometimes when it should be right. But my family tried it to Orlando and it worked fine. Also the s1 freezes sometimes, there needs to be a update for this.
  8.
THe part # is 99-5802. As for taking it to be installed, might want to talk to whomever you're looking to have put it in first and make sure that they're going to do all that should be done. Such as hooking up the vss, reverse, and illumination. You can also see if they do the bypass for you. I know circuit and best buy cannot do that though.
Okay I really don't need the bypass, I may get it later in the year (z1). But I want everything installed to get a great gps signal. I also want the navtraffic and back up camera if it's possible to install that.
  9.
Yes it looks stock. As mentioned before the harness and antenna adaptorare chrysler parts. The kit, I'll have to check work tomorrow for the part number but it's a ord double din kit. Actually some of the guys here have probably used it for the newer f150s and such.
Oh okay cool, so should I still do the pre-paid installation thing from crutchfield to do a professional installation, or should I take it to somewhere like circuit city and they'll do a good job? Thanks and God Bless.
  10.
i worked on a 2006 lincoln zephyr n it is possible to put a z1 in it. u just gotta find the right kit. the 1 i worked on had a thx certified system wit factory nav, it was pretty bad-ass. the weird thing is, wen i got behind the radio, it had a chrysler antenna (cr-10) and a chrysler wire harness (80-6502). but if u hav the kit it shouldn't ba problem itz iso-mounted.
Okay cool I plan on buying this pre-paid installation thing http://www.crutchfield.com/S-mcMwM790a7 ... =597421000 whenever I do get the avic z1, maybe some time next year or in the fall. So I hope the installer knows what to do because I don't want my car damaged. Did the avic z1 look good in the zephyr? Thanks again, God Bless.
  11. Well I fixed the window mount problem, you just have to bend the window mount stick hard. Also the GPS problem I mentioned above I believed is happening because of construction. Another friend with GPS has problems with the GPS in that location too. But it's a nice product. Thanks and God Bless.
  12. Anyone got the avic z1 to fit in the zephyr? Or do you think it will fit good and work?

Here is a picture of the dash in the Lincoln MKZ (renamed to Mkz instead of zephyr for 2007).

  13. Well I got the avic S1 today. One problem the windshield mount is stiff and can't bend so when the avic s1 is mounted I can't even see the avic s1 good enough, anyone else have this problem? But so far it has been reliable, except one time it told me to turn left when it should have been to turn right.

Also I was driving and the map just went sort of blank and my arrow was in the middle of no where, but I managed to get it working ( I think I reset it or contintued driving) but why does it just knock me off the map into the middle of no where? I still see the path where I'm supposed to drive on the edge of the screen and I have to drive to it but whats the problem? Anyways it's a good device. I'll just have to use it more.

Also is there a update out yet? Thanks and God Bless.

  15. Some more reviews of the avic s1

The reviews are not that bad.
  16. Hey that one, where is the most reliable and cheapest place I can buy the unit? Also, if I don't buy it from pioneer or crutchfield and get it from a cheap online store, will I still retain and have a warranty from pioneer?
  17.
I don't get these guys that are leaving bad reviews. Not that I think they don't know what they are talking about...but what are they talking about??? When the "bad" review says no route summary what does he mean? And the bad driving directions makes no sense either. I have to laugh at these people because as they leave their reviews, in my eyes and I am sure others as well they don't make sense.

I have this thing and I think it works great. Is it the be all end all of portable navigation, no? But are any of the portable navi units, no?

The no route summary has me scratching my head, and I wish the reviewer would have left better info. To me route summary is how far and how long(ETA). The AVIC-S1 gives you that info. Now again, that is what it means to me. To them, I can't say.

Here is my thought on the bad driving directions comment. This person bought it and tested it driving around his town. When he entered a destination it gave him a route that he thought was not right or too long or whatever. But this person knows his town, and they know where to and how to go. To test any portable, or even in dash navigation the true test is not the area you already know because you already know the short cuts, quickest routes and all that. I have used this thing now in 6 States and I think it works as well, or better than it should.

I am lead to wonder if the person that left the 4 out of 10 even looked at the instructions. Not that you really need to as it is pretty straight forward, but before you rate it poorly maybe one should actually look over the instructions and see if some of the problems are user error.

As for the battery comment on the other one. Not much to say there. Mine has lasted almost 4+ hours, and I can't say that is good or bad for what it is.

Anyway, I stand behind this being a great unit.
Thanks that one, I think we're going to get it anyway, God willing. Thanks and God Bless.
  18.
based on researching reviews, the garmin nuvi 360 seems to be top notch right now. Approximately $699 -- but it's just coming out right now, that price will drop over time (or additional retailers willing to drop the price will begin carrying it). I know your budget is $600 -- but an extra $99 for a unit that seems to have it all (not just in terms of "specs" but in terms of usability) doesn't seem like too much of a stretch, YMMV.
Also where can I get the nuvi for 700?
  19.
dhodory, I see your points. I also see that you live in central Ohio, Columbus I am assuming. I would be more than happy to meet with you and let you demo the AVIC-S1 first hand and see what you think after that.

I went to Best Buy yesterday at Polaris and played with the Nuvi 350 a little and while it was nice, it was was not as easy to navigate through the menus as the AVIC-S1. And yes it was quicker once you select your option, but by a split second only. And what's better(or safer), quicker or easier to use? The guy also made a comment about no street names on the AVIC-S1. Not sure where that come from, but it is far from accurate. And the whole glare issue had me laughing as well. I guess almost any surface will have a "glare" in direct light. I have not had an issue with glare, or street names or anything he found fault with. I have had mine and have been using it for a couple of weeks now and love it. I think dollar for dollar it is unbeatable.

As I said, the invitaion is open dhodory, I am in the Grove City area. Just drop me a message and we can arrange to meet and you can judge the AVIC-S1 for yourself.
Hmmm, then I may still get the avic s1, I really need it for a family member who is traveling far business wise, and will constantly use it, but the person at 12volt said it's reliable too. So your having no problem with it? I know it uses navteq. Please let me know, also did you post a review anywhere online? Also does it mount good in the car without everyone noticing your a tourist or seeing the navigation system? Thanks and God Bless
  20. Hey can can yall recommend me a good mobile navigation device to get something under $600, something very reliable, extremely reliable map wise, got a family member who wants to travel a lot for business so I need something reliable 99-100%. Thanks and God Bless.
