  1. Using the AV adaptor / HDMI setup, is there any reason to still jailbreak the phone?

I jailbreak my iPhone so I can customize it. When the appradio extensions gets to the point of the dev's intent, then yes it'll be the main reason to jailbreak. Once the extension is fully complete and compatible, you'll be able to control all unsupported apps from the head unit.

  2. What do you mean by "reduced image reflected on the stereo"? I don't jave an iPhone 5 so I'm interested to know how it works with the taller screen size.

Turn Bear2885's image to the side and that's what all apps look like after installing the beta 5. Only unsupported apps show up with the smaller image. The AppRadio main menu shows up fine with the Siri icon on the bottom left. All of the unsupported apps' icons also show up but once those apps are launched is when the reduced image takes affect. Touching the black bars on the side give no response.

When apps are launched independently without the AppRadio app, they are mirrored pretty much to full screen. Portrait mode shows the full mirrored image from top to bottom on the stereo. Landscape mode fills the entire screen.

  3. How do I install the .deb file would it need to be done with ifile

It can be done with several different programs but I find it easier to install with iFile.

    -install iFile

-Download the .deb file to your pc then email it to yourself

-click on .deb file in your iPhone email and "Open in IFile" prompt should be available

    - iFile will default the file to /var/mobile/Documents with several options on how to open the file. Select "Cancel"

    - select "edit" on top right corner

    - select the .deb file

    - select the clipboard icon on the bottom right then select "cut"

    - the .deb file will be pasted in /var/root/Media/Cydia/Autoinstall

    - I had to make the Cydia and Autoinstall folder since it wasn't already there

    - select the .deb file once in the destination folder and select "Installer"

    - reboot/respring iPhone

  4. I don't think the AppRadio map app will do turn by turn directions. If its the only map you have I think it can be useful for seeing what streets are coming up if you are unfamiliar with an area. Try using the AppExtensions to mirror other map apps that do have turn by turn directions. The latest beta can be found here: http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/34188-appradio-extensions-20-beta-full-iphone-control/

I've reviewed some other map apps with the AppRadio here: http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/35989-appradio-2-and-google-maps-turn-by-turn-nav/

  5. Just downloaded Waze. Haven't had a chance to drive around with it yet but will post back once I do.

Edit: In my opinion, Waze work the best of all 5 map apps tested. Highly recommended.

So far the options look promising with points of interest, turn by turn navigation, friends visibility and user submitted reports on accidents/police/traffic. It does have the day/night mode with 2D and 3D maps. 6 voice options available with one male and female per language (english and 2 types of spanish). The app reminds me somewhat of MotionX but with all the options already included for free. The only thing is no music playback controls from the app.

Edit: The turn by turn guidance gives you prompts usually about 1000 ft before the turn.

Big plus is that there is touchscreen support on the AppRadio and the app screen on the phone only has a big button for voice commands. On the contrary, a portion of the screen is mis-sized and menu button on the left is off screen. I've heard of going into settings and adjusting the aspect ratio but that option isn't available on my iPhone or the AppRadio.

Edit: I found that if I press the "Disconnect" button and launch the app from the phone's main screen, you'll get the full screen but it won't be touch supported on the AppRadio.

If there are any other map/gps apps anyone would like tested, let me know and I'll try to get a timely response.

  6. Just to double check before i do it:

AR2, iPhone 5, iOS 6.1............        Can i update my head unit to Pioneer's FW 8.30 and have the A-EX beta to work as in post #1?

    Currently using:

    AppRadio 2 (SPH-DA-100)

iPhone 5 iOS 6.0.1 JB with evasiOn

    Lightning digital AV adapter

    standard HDMI cable

    Firmware v8.30

Just tested out the beta 5 and still no touch support for unsupported apps. Apps are locked in landscape with a reduced image reflected on the stereo. I've installed/uninstalled everything need from the first page.

mrKO if you have the lightning digital av adapter and a HDMI cable, I would update to FW v8.30. If you don't have those accessories then your AR2 will update to an expensive AM/FM Radio tuner.

See my results for post v8.30 update with different adapters here: http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/36081-appradio2-sph-da100-update-v830/page-1

  7. So far I've tested 4 map apps with the AppRadio 2 with the digital av connector with a standard hdmi cable to my iphone 5. Results below:

Google Maps - worked the best out of the 4 apps tested. Turn by turn voice instructions are heard through the stereo when connected with Bluetooth. Most accurate and up to date map app of the 4. Directions are given ahead of time before turns. Doesn't have a night map setting so you get a bright white default background when driving when the sun's down.

Apple Maps - turn by turn navigation voice only through iPhone speakers even when connected with Bluetooth. Maps aren't up to date and I was given directions down roads that were either restricted or were out of date. Directions on screen took up too much space and it was hard to see upcoming road names. Directions were given to turn when you are passing or are right at the turn. Also no night setting for maps, bright screen when driving at night.

MotionX free version - turn by turn voice option is an in-app purchase option. Video out is an in-app purchase option although when mirrored from phone to stereo, what's on screen is fine.. There's a music button to control playback within the app. Has a night mode. Different voices for turn by turn direction can be purchased . Maps can be viewed in 2D, 3D, and Satellite.

AppRadio Map App - garbage, don't even bother. Has no extra features. Only displays map in 2D overhead. Only plus is that you can pinch zoom on the AppRadio while the others don't have that feature yet.

  8. So do apps like waze and pandora all still work thru the touchscreen.?

Currently using an iPhone 5 w/digital av adapter on AppRadio 2 (SPH-DA100):

I haven't used waze but pandora works with the AppRadio touchscreen like its supposed to. I had the AppRadio 1 and upgraded to the 2 and its a world of difference. I really like the ability to be able to mirror my iPhone to the AppRadio so I can basically use any app I want on the bigger screen.

  9. ooo i want to know also... i can't wait for the new cable to come out for the iphone5.

You don't have to wait for Pioneer's cable (IH-202) since it's just their brand of an HDMI cable. I just updated to the latest AppRadio firmware v8.30 and it still supports screen mirroring with the lightning digital av adapter. So you can basically use any map or navigation app you'd like on the AppRadio screen. I'm using a generic HDMI cable with the digital av adapter with my iphone 5 and it works fine.

See my other post here (http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/36081-appradio2-sph-da100-update-v830/) for more compatibility details for the iPhone 5 and the new firmware v8.30

  10. Copied this from my post in another thread:

DO NOT UPDATE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE LIGHTNING DIGITAL AV ADAPTER FOR THE IPHONE 5.

Just updated to the latest firmware and I also recently upgraded my iPhone 4
to the iPhone 5. I had the iPhone 4 plugged in with the radio's 30 pin
connector for music and video until my av adapter came in the mail. Some
    results below:

iPhone 4 with new update FW v8.30 and AppRadio 30pin connector

    iPod music - no

    iPod video - no

    AppRadio Apps - no

    Pandora - no

    Charging - yes

iPhone 5 with new update FW v8.30 and lightning to usb cable plugged into AppRadio usb

    iPod music - no

    iPod video - no

    AppRadio Apps - no

    Pandora - no

    Charging - yes

iPhone 5 with new update FW v8.30 and 30 pin to lightning adapter cable plugged into AppRadio 30 pin

(same results if using 30 pin to lightning on 30 pin cable to AppRadio usb)

    iPod music - no

    iPod video - no

    AppRadio Apps - no

    Pandora - no

    Charging - yes

iPhone 5 with new update FW v8.30 and lightning digital av adapter with standard HDMI cable

iPod music - yes (iPod icon is unusable but music plays when selected from iPhone)

    iPod video - yes

    AppRadio Apps - yes

    Pandora - yes

Charging - yes (with lightning to usb cable plugged into AppRadio usb)

iPhone to AppRadio screen mirroring - yes

My iPhone 5 is on FW 6.0.1, jailbroken with evasi0n with AT&T

I don't understand why Pioneer is charging $60 for an HDMI cable that
they call the IH-202. I bought a cheap HDMI cable off ebay for $2 and it
works fine. The HDMI port on the back of the stereo doesn't have much
room for HDMI cables that may have a larger plastic end.
