  1. Yeah, I've seen those options, but unfortunately they didn't route like he needs (we tried a demo in my Bullitt) and I figured I'd ask. Any more suggestions?
  2. OK. Here's the problem. Had a customer come in today with a very interesting problem. He drives a 2007 Dakota as an escort for heavy equiptment haulers. His problem is that acording to DOT regs, they have to avoid all metro areas and he says that sometimes they can go as much as 200 miles out of there way to stay in regs for wight and length of vehicle. Here's the question- will the N4 allow alternate routs that avoid major areas? My answer is no as I have not seen anything in my D3 that is what he wants. And it won't hurt my feelings if the answer really is no. If it you can do
  3. It will depend on the quality of the TV tuner and the signal quality you will get. Don't forget you have less than 12 months to enjoy that analog TV tuner. Feb 2009 the switch gets turned off.
  4. Yes, there are several people on this forum that know how to bypass that damn thing. If you had spent 10 seconds doing a SEARCH instead of making a new thread for what has been typed to death over, you would have found this http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html#newbypass. Follow those instructions (I know it says it is for Z1, Z2 is the same.)
  5. Or you could do like I did and pop for a Snap-on scan tool (or similar). Saved my staff's but so many times, it has already paid for itself. Only car's I can't do are the 08 models.
  6. Not directly. My best suggestion would be to use the changer in stand alone mode and use the av1 input on the back of the D3.
  7. Don't forget to seal your hole with silicone. You don't want any water leaks, do you?
  8. With all new Nissans, if you unplug the airbag light and turn the key on, it will have a code stored in the computer that the dealership will need to turn off. GM was nice and used an auto reset feature so you don't have that problem.
  9. Try using the SEARCH feature on the main page. That vehicle has been covered many times, so I won't do it again.
  10. On my '01 Bullitt, I mounted the GPS antenna on the back deck, under the carpet between the factory speaker holes, and don't have any reception problems, and I can't see it. Also, do yourself a favor and spend the extra time to connect the vss (white/orange in the pass kick panel) so the nav features are more acurate, and use the 2.4 k resistor on the turn on wire.
  11. Only thing I can think of is you did not move the Yellow/Balck wire to the correct pin or it is not making good contact. I would check that connection.
  12. I find it rather fun. Kinda like going 150 and nailing the brakes to see if I can peg the G meter. (I'm up to 40 tries on that one. Braking form those speeds, that is. )
  13. The fit around the face of the D3 was not what I would like. I ended up cutting the top edge off the kit to make it work. Once it was installed, you really could not tell what had been done, but I knew. The dash of the Mustang hangs over the radio, so it did not look bad. The Sport Trak may be a different story. I have the Metra kit for my car sitting on my toolbox right now, I just need time to swap kits over. Besides, I feel Metra makes a better kit overall.
  14. Go with the metra kit. I belive it is the same one that my 2001 Mustang Bullitt used, and the best kits kit (same as others) did not fit the D3 as well as the Metra kit does.
  15. Usually, if one goes bad, they all go bad. I would check all of the connections between the dash and the speaker itself, and even check the speaker to make sure it is not wearing lipstick.
  16. just a thought A "thought" from a one-post-wonder. Wow. Let's get right on that...
  17. First off, I don't think CC can offer the rebate. Sounds like 800 is AFTER rebate money. If it is before, than it is a steal. (MSRP is 1000). And other prices are in line with other Authorized Retailers (like me). Second, connect the VSS wire if at all possible. It does make the unit more reliable in the long run. It also makes the nav functions more precise. Third, because the iPod screen is larger than the unit you have now (I am guessing, anyway) it is not only easier to scroll through artists and playlists, I feel more at ease with the iPod screen on the D3 than my last radio
  18. Ask to see some of his work. If he is good enough, he will have a portfolio, or like myself, pictures stored on my laptop I can show. If that's not enough, I show them my 2001 Mustang Bullitt #02445. If that's not enough, there's the sales person's Tahoe. Then there's the Boss's Shelby GT500 and Hummer H2. What I am saying is if he is good enough, just seeing some of his (or her) work will more than likely put you at ease. If you still can't find anyone local (God, I hope you can) then drive up my way, and I will do it for you (for a fee, of course.)
  19. I for one have NEVER bypassed any nav unit. Never. Honest. Not even my own. I LOVE to pull over to the side of the road, apply the parking brake and type in my search. I would NEVER ask my wife to do that for me. Because that would just plain be WRONG.
  20. The pioneer unit can only be programmed a certain way. The features available are- vol up, vol down, track up, track down, preset up, preset down, source, and mute. (I feel like I am missing one, but I am at home now and without my install manuals, so if I did, please don't raz me!) It may have been in the way your installer programmed the buttons to work when he did the install. If your installer is a good enough guy and works for a good enough shop, you could have him program it any way you want. It should only take a few moments (depending on where he placed the swi module at) to progr
  21. You're "very knowledgable" about car installation but don't know where the driver's kick panel is? Are you serious? If you look in the kick panel, you should find a module labeled "steering ecu" or something similar. Toyota is nice to their dealership's techs, and they label just about everything. Once you have found it, you should see a purple/white wire. Run the pink of the nav unit to this wire and SPLICE into it. Don't cut it. You will know it is the correct wire when the speed pulse number in the info display goes higher as you go faster, and the beeps get faster/high pitched.
  22. Unfortunately, no, and no. The rear audio controls are not supported on any interface I am aware of, and the factory 6 disc changer is not compatable with the Pioneer unit at all. And don't worry so much, I have seem more of those changers lock up and quit functioning than I care to think about.
  23. AVIC-D3x has the D3, iPod cable, bluetooth box and remote. AVIC-Z2x has Z2, bluetooth kit and backup camara. Maybe that's where youre guy got mixed up. You could add the backup camara to the D3x, but I am sure that will be at extra cost.
  24. Most OEM nav systems are not cusomizable. They were built with EVERYONE in mind, including the 40 year old Soccer Mom that has little to no technical capabilities. Imagine if she started customizing that thing and got lost and then her dealer were to charge 100 bucks or so to fix it? How would that go over? (Not too well.) I know it may be built by Pioneer, but due to the lack of add on options, lack of Nav features, and overall just "plain" looks, well, it's just not the same. Now, as a shop Manager, I will answer this (in case you were wondering.) If you were to bring your vehicle
