  1. I had the same problem and called pioneer and they wanted 200 dollars to fix it. Apparently it does not matter what is wrong with it, they charge the same amount. I ordered the remote and luckily the downgrade worked for me. I read in another thread about the people found below on ebay and they were impressed with them and the price. I was going to give them a call if the downgrade was not going to work; 200 dollars seemed kind of high when re-flashing takes about 2 minutes to do.

    Good Luck!

  2. Anyone know the answer to the following scenerio?

I was able to burn the iso and it seemed to update fine in my D3 (ie said "update completed" and showed the correct version) and the navigation even worked for a while, then all of a sudden I got the "insert appropriate disk" message. I've tried different brands of disks and burn programs at different speeds. Still nothing, in fact, it seems like the more disks I try the worse it gets. My question is once it says it has updated completely and you start getting the above message are you pretty much screwed and have to downgrade to the original disk and start over with a new update, or will getting a good working disk solve all the problems? I am waiting on a remote right now so I can downgrade because I am tired on buring disks and I have pushed to reset button so much I am afraid it might get stuck or stop working. If anyone has had the above scenerio occur and eventually get the navigation to work please help me out.

I finally fixed my GPS after ordering the CD-R22 remote and following the downgrade instructions. The only thing I would add to the instructions is that there is a switch on the right of the remote that changes the function from DVD to TV to AVH; you have to have the AVH function selected in order to put the password in since the numbers won't work otherwise. You will know the numbers are being entered because it will make a beeping sound with each number.

  3. i had the same problem as you described above, my d3 also turned black with an error message: DVD ROM has problems. But all that went away after I used the memorex disc.

I tried both memorex and verbatim. I wonder if the write speed of the disk matters? Both brands I used were 2.4X. Maybe I should try the 8X; any thoughts? Did anybody get any brand of 2.4X speed disks to work?

  5. I also downloaded the two iso's and had some difficulties as well. I initially used memorex dvd's and used 3 of them and could not get any of them to burn past 50 percent. I them bought some verbatim disks and was able to burn the east and wesk iso's using Imgburn. When I inserted the west disk into my d3, it seemed to be updating fine, it even said update complete and showed the new map version after resetting. After a few minutes of the map being displayed, it locked up and displayed "insert appropriate disk". I tried resetting several times, but nothing helped. I tried the new east disk and it updated just fine. I decided to burn the west disk again, except used alcohol120 the second time and it burned and updated the d3 just fine and haven't had any problems yet (its only been 1 day though).

I think getting a good burn is why so many people are having a problem with the update. For those having problems updating, I would try a different brand of disk and/or a different burning program.

  6. I just hooked up the vss wire in my 07 pathfinder. I used pin 6 on instrument cluster harness. If you look hard you can seen numbers at each corner of harness telling which way to count. You can get the harness by pulling the dash away from around the cluster. The harness plugs into the top of the cluster. I was not able to unplug the that way. You might have better luck. I ended up having to take off most of the dash on the drivers side to get to the cluster housing. You have to start by taking the panel off under the steering wheel and working your way up. I am getting a good speed pulse (about 1/2 the speed I am going on the odometer). That seems to be what most people are getting. I did not have any proper tools to plug the wire into the harness correctly, so I just stripped about an inch of the vss wire and folded it in half then plugged it into the pin as far as it would go (not the best way, but not problems so far).

If you are going to hook up the reverse, the easiest place to find the wire is underneath the plastic panel to the left of the drivers seat that holds the carpet down. Underneath the plastic panel is a big white box that a bundle of wires runs through. Just open the box and find the light blue wire.

I would disconnect the batteries negative cable or you might trip the airbag light. If the airbag light starts to blink, it can be fixed without taking it to the dealership (do a search on airbag and you can find the post on how to fix it). The demo screen may come up the first few times the unit is started, but should eventually go away.
