stang_timi
i was thinking about getting the optional tv. i know it won't work after next feb. but they have the "box" people can hook up to their over-the-air tv's to allow them to work. do you think that box will work for this setup? thanks timi
bridge4d
I've wondered the same thing. I don't see why one of the converter boxes wouldn't work. I assume they are nothing more than digital receivers with with composite outputs.
installermarc
Those boxes you are refering to require 120 volt AC power (not too hard to overcome) and a "rabbit ear" input or 75 ohm input (again, not too hard to wire up) and have a cable TV output (there's the problem). Unless you want to carry a good sized power inverter, the DTV converter box and a Cable TV box with a remote extender system, don't do it. Then there is the reception problem. DTV signals are more fickle about direction changes, so I'm not sure if you would even get a good signal for very long.
crd
The Converter box is a HDTV tuner with RCA or RF outputs, you can use them, on the AV input of the avic, don't buy the Normal TV tuner, because the new box it's the same but it will receive the HD signal instead of the analog signal. You need to find one that works with 12v, most of them are 120v but some of them use AC adapters wich converts to 12v etc. This is what you need http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Zenith-D ... tDetail.do
crd
I bought a HD converter box at Radio Shack to day it's 120v but with my DC/AC converter works great and receives HDTV and I can see it on my Avic Z2 via RCA inputs. I will open the Converter Box to see if it haves a power supply inside, hopefully is 12v or less.
