Harness question

Recommended Posts

Unless your car came with a built in nav system it's unlikely that the VSS wire, reverse wire or break wire will be integrated into the wiring harness.

Which means you'll need to do a bit of research to locate them.

You also asked if you would need a new wiring harness. You don't "need" one if you already have an aftermarket stereo installed. If not you'll have to go buy one (I suggest walmart, the price for the harness is around $7.00).

I'd do the majority of the wiring in the house because it's simply easier than being upside down in a car with a flashlight trying to find the right wires.

Yeah I already have an after market installed.

For the VSS, I haven't personally opened up the dash and looked at it, but apparently (at least for the newer F-150's) it's located in the stock wiring harness. It didn't have a stock Nav system installed, but it does have that option were the stereo volume increases as you speed up/down. So I'm assuming that is why the VSS wire would be in that location.
