I have strange routing problem. Avic-z1 won’t give me a shortest route even if I set short, no tollway and no freeway. For example: from my home to my work 11 miles and travel time about 30 minutes, shortest route Avic gives me 20 miles with estimated travel time 49 minutes. What is that? Is unit defective? Am I doing something wrong?

is the unit brand new? If it hasn't been in the car long it hasn't really learned how the vehicle works yet. There's also an option to change the speed values for the road types. It may be over estimating the time it takes to go the route because of these values. Just try following what it sayss see what happens.

Check that it does have the roads you are trying to take. My city recently added a new half mile connector that isn't on the maps, and it always tells me to take another route when that one would be some much easier. Also, you can try programming in the 'wrong' route, then driving your normal route and watching it re-route to see if it fixes itself.

The unit is brand new; I have it for about week. I go to work every day and every day unit show me "wrong" route. Moreover, 20 miles is the best route it gives to me, other routes even worse. The other routing software I have tried, Yahoo maps, Tom Tom, Microsoft, gives me routes very close I use, but Pioneer is far out off range. Speed values changes nothing in my case.
