PROBLEM: AVOX & PSP Car Adapter

Recommended Posts

OK, so I have read all the threads and decided to buy a AVIC-D2 and an AVOX Jukebox as well as a Sony Brand PSP Car Adapter.

The AVIC-D2 kicks ass and the AVOX Jukebox is awsome on my TV at home but I can't get it to power on in the car with the PSP AC Adapter. I verified the voltage, amperage and pin polarity are IDENTICAL on the AVOX and the PSP adapter but it still will not power on!

Tested the AVOX with the included wall adapter again and it's fine.

Tested the PSP Auto Charger with my PSP and it's fine too...

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Eric

Hi Eric,

A friend of mine had a similar problem. I posted on another forum about this, and found something interesting out. Newer PSP car adapters have a changed tip on the end of the plug that goes into the AVOX. Fear not! You can still get it to work! Simply take some small electrical wire with the insulation stripped (only need about 1 inch), and fold it up. Then push it inside the hole on the tip of the PSP car adapter with a pin or something so it goes in.

i did this for my friend, using a piece of electrical wire I ripped out of an old cell phone car cord, and it worked (and still works) beautifully!

Whould I be correct in assuming that the male tip in the AVOX is too big to fit in the female hole of the newer PSP adapters (hence why it doesn't fit all the way in) and the wire inserted into the PSP tip is to force male to male contact of the center positive pin?

... I just wanna be sure I understand what's going on here...

If that's correct, then I assume the wire I put into the PSP tip has to stick out ever so slightly from flush?

BTW, thanks in advance for bustin' your hump to help everyone out here. In the little time I've been a member here I can see how much you do. (I'm an Asst. Admin on a car forum so I know what it's like to field 1mil. questions a day)

Sorry for the late reply. Another 12 hour day working at the post office LOL

What I mean to say was that the hole in the middle of the tip of the PSP adapter's plug is deeper now than the lil male prong on the AVOX that the plug goes into. A small piece of wire basically fills the gaps and makes a nice electrical connection ;)

I'm glad you got it working. Any other questions, please dont hesitate to ask!
