stroked x
i just installed my rear view camera, and i think i did something wrong lol i put a lighted 3 prong switch on my dash so i can switch the camera on anytime not just when im in reverse. but every time i switch the camera on i blow the fuse for the radio under the dash. here is how i wired the camera on the back of the switch: ground: to metal ground behind dash acc: to acc from back of deck (tap in) power: to camera at back of vehicle. the camera is grounded in the back and the purple wire at the back of the head unit is tapped in the power lead on back of my switch. what did i do wrong? rgarjr
You are probably grounding the 12V ACC from your deck which will blow the fuse right away. You need a SPDT (3 contacts) switch as follows: The common contact should be the parking brake wire on your deck; another contact should have 12V coming from your reverse lamp, the last contact should have 12V ACC. stroked x
if i have 12v coming from reverse lamp then i wont be able to turn my camera on anytime. just when in reverse. i want to be able to turn the camera on anytime. and i do have a 3 contact switch. rgarjr
U may have a wrong switch for what u want. Get the right one. I'm assuming u have the rear cam wired correctly, ground and 12V ignition. The way I explained it should work like u want. In one toggle state, it should operate normally. In the other, it should bring up the rear cam view.
VBLUE42
What unit do you have? You should not need a switch for your purpose. The unit allows you to view rear view as well as reverse if you have the camera wired correctly.

VBLUE42
No switch is needed to get rear view.
