X920BT IPOD problem

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I installed an X920BT in my 1995 Supra Turbo on Wednesday. I was replacing an AVIC D1 with a defective/worn out touch screen.

So far I am very happy with the unit, except for one issue: When connecting my iPod (4th Gen)the iPod screen reads "Do not disconnect". I have about 4700 songs on the iPod, so I figured the X920BT was taking a long time to catalog them for the Voice Recognition feature. However, after several hours, there was no progress. I restored the iPod, it has the latest software on it, and even tried just syncing the play lists, which dropped the song count to about 1400, all to no avail. I tried turning off the cataloging, and that didn't change the behavior either.

I've done a lot of searching and reading on the forum, and haven't found anyone out there with this particular issue. Is anyone else using an 4th generation iPod with an X920BT?

When I connect my iPhone 4, it catalogs the VR and the interface works flawlessly.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Ken

You didn't read your manual did you?

I haven't read it from the first page to the last. I have searched it extensively, and read most of it. As has been noted in multiple threads (even by YOU!) the manual sucks. The fact that half of it applies to a different head unit doesn't make it any more legible.

I've been a lurker here for years. This is the first time I've had a question that I couldn't find the answer for through searching and reading. I performed my own install, and this is not my first AVIC unit. I host an informational forum for Toyota Supras, (www.supra411.com) and any of my staff that were as rude to new members as you would no longer be staff. 411 stands for information, not snide remarks. Thanks for nothing.

Because the answer is "there is NOTHING wrong, that's the expected behavior of a docked device that isn't an iphone or ipod touch"

From: http://www.pioneerusa.com/PUSA/Products/CarAudioVideo/In-Dash/GPS-Navigation-Systems/AVIC-X920BT

"Once an iPod, iPhone or iPod Touch device has been synced with the MusicSphere playlists and is connected to the AVIC-X920BT, users can access up to 40 specialized playlists through an animated 3D sphere interface."

No, noobs will still come here and ask a question without bothering to help themselves first when the answer can easily be found with just a little effort.

Well, now the next person will be able to find the answer here, if they bother to search. (I did)

Now the question is, do I run out and buy an iPod Classic?...hmm.

Your quote from Pioneer is about what you will see on the PIONEER screen, not what you see on the IPOD screen, an ipod that is NOT an iphone or touch will show the "do not disconnect" screen on it, I don't think you're understanding the point here. You will NOT see a Musicsphere screen on the ipod itself.

Diane: I wasn't expecting any Music Sphere screen on the iPod itself, I simply expected the 920 to be COMPATIBLE with the iPod...it doesn't work at all, I had to go buy an iPod Classic. Page 10 of the 200+ page manual states that only iPod Gen 5 and newer are supported.

You DEFINITELY mean iPod [Classic] 4th Gen and *NOT* iPod Nano 4th Gen, correct?

If the former, is it running software v2.0.2?

If the latter, then it should be working.

I definitely mean 60GB iPod Classic, 4th generation. (purchased in July of 2005) The iPod had the latest software installed, I had not updated the head unit yet, and once I found the above compatibility note, I went out and purchased a 160GB iPod classic. I have since updated the head unit, but have not retried the 4th Gen iPod, since it is now obsolete.
