Avic x710bt installed and adjusted in a 2004 Ford Expedition

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I hope y'all don't mind that I post this here. I just installed my avic in my 2004 Expedition and was not happy with the fit in the dash. The radio was originally installed in my wife's Focus and it looked like OEM equipment but in my truck it wasn't that great. It had gaps around the edges and the knob was hard to get at (I know it is a crummy knob) because the expedition dash has the radio sitting in a hole making it even harder to turn the knob. And thanks to the guys that posted over and over about the mute wire hack, that if it isn't working then you obviously did something wrong (glad I read the whole thing before posting) when I installed the radio in my wife's car I had intermittent warnings about the brake wire and just knew that there was something wrong, well there was something wrong, I didn't push the pin all the way in!!!! DUH!

Anyway, here is what I did to "tighten" up the HU in the hole. I raised the rear center support (many Fords use a center post type support behind the radio) about a 1/4 inch and installed about 4 washers (also about a 1/4 inch) between the dash and the dash kit at the bottom where the 2 screws hold it all together. It pulled the radio out just enough to really fill the gaps around the edges and even pulled it out enough to make it a little easier to turn the volume knob. Here are the pics. Also, just in case you were wondering where I installed my amp, there are some pics of it under the console too. Thanks everyone for the support you provide by posting. I hope someone can use this info as well.
