F900BT re-boot problem...again

Recommended Posts

Hello oh mighty brained ones...question from a long suffering F900BT owner ( 2 years of misery now )...

...before we go any further I've tried tried the following to fix problem - upgraded from Version 1 to Version 2.009, and deleted the four gpspara files...all to no avail...also checked the handbrake cables...and there are no mods on the system...

...a lot of the links on the forums are dead now, which is not surprising given the time that's passed, so I'm limited on how to fix this infernal piece of **** (which has never worked properly since I bought it factory fitted in a Vauxhall (who were zero help btw))...

...I'm now resigned to having to pay Pioneer to fix this problem, but I was wondering, does version 3 or above actually fix the re-boot problem, or am I just wasting my time and money, and should really invest in something new and not Pioneer?...

Cheers all...

what kind of problems is the unit having?

hello gumbey75!!!...thanks for replying...

there is no consistency in the fault...sometimes the unit will start up at ignition, run for a few miniutes of driving, and then cut out (then either re-boot continually, or stay off)...alternatively, it doesn't start at ignition, but comes on after say 10 minutes of driving (then either re-boot, or will stay on for the rest of the journey)...when on, everything works fine...

..when the problems first began the unit wouldn't start at ignition (this only happened every few months or so to begin with and was solved by removing the fuse and then re-inserting)...gradually however the problem escallated...I reported the problem to Vauxhall at the first service (still under warranty), but they were useless, even going as far at one point to deny the unit was factory fitted...they promised they would fix it, but eventually I gave up (at that time it was a small issue and since i knew how to solve it I eventually threw the towel in with VX)...however, when I uploading the latest update from Pioneer (V.200090) for these units the problem seemed to get worse...unit is now virtually un-usable...

...got a hold of test mode, removed the four temp gps files from the flash folder, it worked for a day or so...then back to re-booting...

...also have the 'update to version 3' files downloaded from one of the great threads here...but wasn't sure if this would work as the Pioneer website suggests that if you upgrade to V3 from V2 without having CNSD-100FM installed then the unit would be as good as dead...there is also a post here that suggests that upgrading to V3 wouldn't solve the problem anyway as you still require a working unit to begin with...

...thought it might be a windowsCE problem, but all the links to the EU version of this are dead...

...anyway, thanks again for taking the time to reply bud...cheers

  • 4 weeks later...

...took the car back to the dealer again, turns out it's covered by a three year warranty rather than a single year...the dealer diagnosed the problem as a car management/AVIC unit signal incompatability issue (the canbus was sending the wrong singnals to the unit to start/turn off)...

...after all the software solutions I tried (thanks to this super forums members for all their help) it turns out that the problem wasn't with the Pioneer unit after all (shame on me for doubting the mighty Pioneer)...

...well (fingers crossed), after a week of use, the unit continues to be fully operational...the solution was to wire through the ignition rather than through the canbus...

...failure to boot up, re-booting during driving, etc, all resolved...

...so, the moral is...IF YOU HAVE A BRICKED UNIT (YES I AM SHOUTING HERE), BEFORE YOU GIVE UP AFTER TRYING ALL THE SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS AND DECIDE TO CUT YOUR LOSSES BY SELLING IT ON THROUGH THE LIKES OF E-BAY, CHECK THE CANBUS SIGNAL FIRST...there, rant over....and good luck...
