STO
I finally got the D-2 installed in my 03 Yukon.. I couldn't wait on the D-3 which should be out next month. Anyways, I can't seem to view my back-up camera while in drive but works perfectly while in reverse. I check out the manual and it states that the back-up camera should work while in drive to view whatever you're towing. Did I read something wrong in the manual? Should I be able to view the rear while in drive? Thanks in advance!! STO
Aconite
They likely installed the backup camera using your reverse lights as a power source, so the camera is getting no power when in drive ('cause the reverse lights are not on). My camera was designed to be installed this way (according to the camera instructions).
cntrylvr79
WHen you hit the split screen on the avic to view the camera does it just left side of the screen just go black? If so then the abouve post is correct. The power supply of the camera must be tied into a switched source for that mode to work.
STO
Yup, it's just black. Is it pretty difficult to configure the power supply which allows to view the buck-up camera while inreverse and driving?

cntrylvr79
No. Just have to move the + wire of the camera to a switched power lead.
STO
I'm not too familiar with wiring, is there a how-to, diy for wiring. Not too sure what a switched power lead is. Sorry, ask me about medicine, I can answer it.

cntrylvr79
I take it you had it done professionally then? Why not take it back to the shop that did it.
Aconite
It is just moving the power wire from camera (likely) connected to the brake light wire, which only receives power when you are in reverse, to another wire, which is always powered. However, I have heard (and I don't know if it is accurate or not - I may have even read it in the Avic manual) that some cameras should not receive power all of the time as they could burn out, so you would only want power when in reverse. I know it is a nice feature to be able to see what is behind you, but my advice is that unless you have a need to see what is behind you (trailer, etc) just leave it ... if it ain't broke ... cntrylvr79
Sort of the camera power wire would have need to be moved to a wire that had power only when the vehicle is on. In your case that would either be the red wire at the avic's harness, or the pink wire at the ignition harness.
ItsStopher
I ordered my snakeeyes cam with an extra power lead to be able to turn it on when I need it.
