Z150BH phone call and ringer volume

Recommended Posts

Hello, newbie here.

I just got my Z150 hooked up in my 2012 Venza using the PAC TATO interface and AXXESS steering wheel control interface.  The music sounds great.

However, when I connect my Iphone 4S up via bluetooth, I have to crank the voice and ringer volume to maximum to get the sound near acceptable levels.  Music streamed via bluetooth is plenty loud so this isn't a connection problem with the phone, and I don't have to turn the volume up much to hear that just fine.  All other volume levels (FM, CD, DVD, etc) sound great too.  Callers on the other end say I sound great, so I know the mic is in a good spot.

Any idea how to remedy this?  I don't have the 'echo' problem at all.  Quality is okay, just the volume that needs turned up.  I suspect that, with the windows down, I won't be able to hear much at all when using the phone.

On a side note, I have to turn the guidance volume up to 80% or more, as well as use the 'mute' function for music, to be able to hear the nav also.  More worried about the phone though.

I guess you know that each source has its own volume control. In other words, if you have volume set for the radio, it will not necessarily be the same setting for Bluetooth audio.

If you think you must, go into AV Settings and select SLA. You can boost the volume for whatever source you had selected when you went into settings there. If you go too far, you will experience distortion.

You might like the results if you were to put an amp in your system that delivers about 100 watts RMS or so per channel. I can assure you that you will not have a volume problem then.  The Pioneer unit only delivers about 10 watts per channel RMS.

Thanks for the response.

  1. Yea, I have maxed out the voice/ringer volume in the controls.  The normal volume buttons on the radio (and steering wheel) have no effect.
  2. I have adjusted SLA, and it works great for music coming from the iPhone via Bluetooth.  It has no effect on the voice/ringer for the phone.
  3. The rest of the sources sound great, so an amp isn't the answer.

I've read where, in past years, echos are a problem.  When I adjust the phone volume during a call, there is a pop-up message saying to turn the volume down if echo is a problem.  I almost wonder if this is a softward programming issue that Pioneer enacted to fix the echo.

Also note, I paired my iPhone to a wireless headset and cranked the 'Bluetooth Volume' to maximum.  I then repaired the iPhone to the Z150, but it made no difference.  And, of course, when you make a call paired to the Avic, the iPhone doesn't allow for any further volume adjustment of the Bluetooth Volume.  Not sure why it is different when pair to the Avic than when paired to the wireless headset.
