installer offered me this...

Recommended Posts

hey guys. i have finally decided on a place for the install. they are charging 180 for the d3 with bypass.

this is exactly what he said " yea i can do the bypass. i'll put a toggle switch for you so if the cops pull you over, all you have to do is hit the switch and it will run the factory style. you don't want to get points for that."

is this really necessary? i feel like just telling him to make it a normal unit with the bypass, no switches no nothing. but then, the idea sounded kinda neat i guess?

have any of you guys done this or heard of it before? does it/will it work well?

if you guys don't suggest it, i'll just tell him to do the bypass normally.

first, if you get pulled over and you got your head unit on, bumpin some 2pac, or playing a porno full volume and the cop is standing at your window askin for your license and registration.. you DESERVE the ticket, hell maybe two.

there is a certain role you play when pulled over. It involves turning off your radio/head unit... turning your car off, and getting ready for the officer to ask you to do something 9/10 times itll be "license and registration and proof of insurance please" so make it easier for them and you might not get in trouble.

Second, i would think the switch is for the installers piece of mind.... "I didnt install it illegally, its a switch and i told the customer to ONLY use it when parked" helps them sleep at night. Because, afterall, they could still be sued, they could still get into the same amount of trouble regardless of switch or wired straight through.

Third, and finally, I wold probably just do the bypass myself, after the install was done properly. The reason for this is, you would keep the install/shop outa anything should something come up. Also, as far as the shop knows, your system is installed the 'right' way. so any issues down the line, the finger cant get pointed to ... ohh your bypass did that.

hey guys, thanks for all the input so far.

but i cant figure out if you guys are for it or against it. are there any cons to having the switch? is it inconvenient to use at all as opposed as just turning it on and having it bypassed 24/7?

thanks guys.
