avicer
i have a quick dumb off topic question: how do i "hard wire" a 12v inlet directly to my 12v source (red+black cable)? can i just cut the 12v inlet plug off and connect the two wires to the red and black wires from the car? i imagine yes, if so - how do i know which goes to red and which to black? thanks! MisFit
if by "inlet" you're talking about a lighter cord, then you have to make sure the device your powering is 12v. then you have to test the wires for pos and neg. if your device is under 12v you need a female lighter port to keep the plug intact as it is a convertor. and hardwire that to the car
avicer
thanks for the reply. it is a 1 to three lighter adapter, but instead of having to plug the lighter cord into the lighter outlet, i wanted to hardwire it to the car's electrical system (using the avic's harness). how do i test the wires for pos. and neg., since they are "dead", i.e. not plugged in. MisFit
does the "one" have a cord, or it a stiff mount right into the lighter port?
avicer
it does have a cord that goes into a lighter plug. here is a picture of it.
MisFit
you should be able to cut off the plug and wire the gold wire to accessory and the silver side to ground. put like a 3 amp fuse inline on the copper wire. if you have a circuit tester you should verify the colors first
